Physical Description: An unconventional beauty – Francesca is a tall, waifish, but often intimidating-looking girl. Her pale skin is covered with tiny freckles and her light blonde hair falls down her back. The long hair is usually fairly messy and wavy or tied in an unruly ponytail. Her facial expression is usually of indifference or mild disdain – Frannie is not a person who displays too many emotions.

When not in her school uniform, Francesca wears plain black robes or other, mundane black outfits. So much blackness always makes a big contrast with her pale complexion and hair, making her appear almost otherworldly sometimes. If she tried harder, she could look a lot prettier, but this way she (unconsciously?) makes herself look unapproachable. Good looks attract attention…she doesn’t want that. She also never really understood or bothered to understand fashion, nor her father and older brother ever gave her enough pocket money to be able to afford anything but the most basic of clothes.

Francesca is tall, but not graceful – there is something almost brutish about the way she carries herself. If she cared about sports, she could be athletic, but she doesn’t so she has no stamina and is relatively physically weak.


Personality Description: Francesca Carys-Burke doesn’t tolerate most people. She pretends she has no interest in things her peers find interesting and she treats most of her peers with utmost disdain. A thoroughly unpleasant and surprisingly uncharismatic person, Frannie pretends to care about very little. While most people would think of her as a typical grumpy teenager who behaves anti-socially just to attract attention, in reality attention is the last thing she craves.

She is a lonely girl who struggles to keep a friend and stopped trying a long time ago. The closest to a friendship she usually gets is when she requires something. One would think Francesca is a studious person, but that is not quite true either – while she is good at certain subjects at school, she is a complete failure at others. In other words, Francesca is only good at things she chooses to be good at. She is too stubborn to realize that she is a clever person who could accomplish great things if she tried in all areas equally. But her passions and ambitions are far from achieving a stellar academic record – since her early childhood Francesca had an obsession with making money, thanks to her self-proclaimed criminal mastermind brother and smuggler father.

Throughout her teenage years Francesca became a more and more of an immoral person. She has no qualms about cheating, lying or stealing – these things (and worse) come to her as easily as breathing. However, she knows she needs to keep a low-profile at Hogwarts. Stealing from other students is something she never engaged in, not because of moral issues, but because it just wouldn't be worth it if she got caught. While a good liar, Francesca tends to avoid getting caught at all possible costs mostly because she hates confrontation. Her ‘people skills’ are not the best and she struggles to read the intentions of others.

Her school marks mean very little to her. She knows she will never apply for a job at the Ministry or work in a respectable shop, so she thinks there's no point in trying anyway. She thinks there are other ways of earning money and that unconventional career paths suit her better. If someone is to blame for her behavior and general life philosophy, that would probably be her older half-brother Damon Burke who turned an innocent, almost spoiled little girl into a future lawbreaker.

Francesca is a very passive person. She keeps all things deep inside, hidden from others but also herself. Deep down, hidden even from herself, is a very different Francesca Carys-Burke – a young girl who yearns to be accepted – a gentle and even romantic soul. But she had buried her true colours years ago and there is no turning back now; being nice and gentle is a sign of weakness and weakness is not acceptable.


History: Francesca was born in Glasgow and raised by her muggleborn mother Tamara Carys, a witch of great talent and an Occlumens. Unfortunately however, Tamara was killed in 1998., during the Second Wizarding War, trying to escape the brutality of the Ministry's new regime. The young girl Francesca then moved to London, to her father and half-brother.

Since her parents have been long separated, Frannie scarcely knew her father, but it turned out he welcomed her with open arms. Edmure Burke belongs to the ancient, pureblood Burke family but is apparently too insignificant and petty, too far in the line of succession. He did however make a name for himself with smuggling, hunting rare artifacts and books and later, stealing. Francesca's half-brother Damon, a young man who is nine years her senior soon became her idol. She would follow the boy everywhere and learn from him. He was a skilled Arithmancer and historian and he taught her many things...he also taught her how to recognize real gold, how to spot enchantments or curses on objects and eventually how to steal.

Francesca grew into a smart and cunning girl, but she never had any friends. Her life consisted of following her father and brother from errand to errand or in the depths of her father's family's shop - Borgin and Burkes.

In Hogwarts, she was sorted into Slytherin - her brother's house, but Frannie didn't really enjoy school. She was so used to being alone, or with only a few people, so her housemates and classmates only confused her and distracted her. It took her a lot of time to adapt and to overcome her shyness. Francesca was never a good student, she always looked for an easier way around her homework. She cheated on exams and copied assignments from better students in exchange for money or favors. Despite all this, Francesca is brilliant in Arithmancy - a subject which requires not so much studying as it requires skill. And it is a skill she's proud of, but never brags about.

In school, Francesca is decidedly unpopular and it seems like many people tend to avoid her. She is approachable on purpose and prefers to keep to herself, dealing with other students only when she needs something.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Most of her family belonged to the this house, however Francesca possesses a fair amount of the Slytherin signature cunning. She has a way around any obstacle and always tries to get away with minimal effort put into work. She also likes to appear modest and common when in reality she dreams of greater things, often thinking of herself as better and more relevant than her peers.
