Rubeus Hagrid had had the fourth years working on their training projects for two months now, and students had either chosen to breed something with a short life cycle or they had picked a creature from his garden. Hagrid though it was about time for the students to have an official test over the assignment--as well as a treat. Well, at least he thought it was a treat.

He leafed through the permission slips that had been turned in, scribbled with signatures and instructions from parents before he pulled out a large wooden hoop and placed in in the middle of the group of students. "Righ',now, we're headin' off to the' Lovegood Sanctuary for an' official test--" the large professor looked from one student to the next with a crisp and heavy voice, "Follow instructions from the caretakers before an' after they give you a creature ta work with." Hagrid gave an amiable nod, satisfied the students were listening.

"An' remember, ta' pass you need to teach tha' creature you're given two to three things, if you aren't doin' well you're get a different creature. Understood?"

Hagrid looked around as he got various nods from the students before he rubbed his hands together and gestured towards the hoop, "Good, now everyone gather 'round--let's head off!"  Hagrid made sure all the students had a hand on the hoop before he grabbed it himself. Then, with a lurching snap the fourth years and their professor disappeared and reappeared on one of the roof of a large estate, whose buildings wrapped around an expansive courtyard. From the rooftop students could gaze at tall trees, overlook vast fields, and admire all the various magical wildlife roaming the grounds.

"Welcome to Lovegood Sanctuary!" A man appeared and approached the Care of Magical Creatures class, with a stack of papers held in one hand. "Today your professor has arranged for each of you to get some personal time with various creatures that we keep here at the sanctuary, they are often special cases--like the result of abuse or experimental hybrids. We keep them here to raise and study them, giving them a home else they might not have one."

The man smiled, "Some creatures are permanent residents, but only few can be adopted. However, we are more than happy for some of our creatures to become a part of the Hogwarts family, given that you can pass Professor Hagrid's test by building a relationship and teaching the creature a few things--but first, I would like each of you to fill out this survey--let me know if you have any questions!" The man handed each student the following survey to be filled out as their professor held his hands together, trying to contain his excitement.

Kelvin would have been excited by the idea of a trip off campus had it not involved a portkey.  He'd heard apparating could be unpleasant, but until he experienced it firsthand, the sensation of being yanked through space by his navel was the worst feeling he'd experienced.  He'd also never been able to use a portkey gracefully.  He always ended up sprawled on the ground, though when he'd gone somewhere by portkey with his brother he did tend to take advantage of his gracelessness by tripping Patrick and sending them both sprawling across the ground.  So needless to say, traveling by portkey with his classmates made him anxious , but he grabbed the wooden hoop when everyone else did.  And ended up on his back on the roof, not even sure how he had managed to fall backward when it at least always felt like portkeys were pulling you forward.

Kelvin quickly stood up, hoping that the animals were kept off the roof and that he hadn't landed in anything the house elves couldn't get out.  Taking the one of the surveys that was passed out, he was disappointed to see the magically filled out physical portion show him to be relatively average in every category.  As he filled out his portion, he couldn't help but hope that when they were given an animal, they were also given ideas of what to train them in.  He reached the last question on the survey and laughed, "Umm, are legs supposed to change color when you wake up?  I mean mine are always the same color, as far as I know."  He looked around at his classmates, wondering if anyone other than Casey had color-changing episodes.

Harlow loved travelling, especially if it was by portkey. It was an exciting and overall strange experience that left you feeling queezy, but that was what she loved about it. She could hardly hold in her excitement as her fellow peers grabbed hold of the hoop, hers being one of the first to touch it. The best bit was definitely after the portkey travel. Being able to see who landed where and how silly they all looked. The portkey yanked them and a second later, Harlow landed ungracefully on her butt ontop of what looked like a roof. With a big grin, Harlow sprung to her feet as she was given a survey to fill out.

"When I wake up, I see my pajama pants, not my legs." Harlow said, not looking up from her sheet as someone asked if legs are supposed to change color. Harlow thought out of the box a lot, so it was no surprise that she found the questions quite normal and not strange at all.

Popping up by Kelvin’s shoulder, Connor shot her a glance over his own as he slung an arm around his friend’s. “When I wake up, I usually don’ see pants at all,” the boy supplied cheerfully, before looking at the other with a conspiratorial smile. “Shit’s stiflin’, y’ know? I like a healthy breeze ‘round my privates, thanks.”

And before another word could be uttered like a hot pink erumpent on the loose, his attention was snagged by the sheet of paper in Kelvin’s hand. Those mischievous blues darting back and forth between that and his own survey, the wild-haired fourth year withdrew his arm and began rummaging through his pockets for that one, familiar pen…

Then, he found it, holding up that terrible purple gel pen with a triumphant “A-ha!”

Now all he needed was someone’s back

“Oy!” he called out, spotting a familiar-looking black-and-yellow clad figure, a toothy grin unfurling across that thin face. “C’mere—yes, you, it’ll only be a second~

Several insults hurled and a perilous moment of struggling later, he was jogging back, half-bent over with a hand clutched at his middle… his other waving about a filled-out survey happily.

Amara was always excited for Care of Magical Creatures, but today's lesson has made her exceptionally giddy. The Lovegood Sanctuary was something she had been dreaming of for what seemed like forever. And now she would be able to actually visit it! That was superb news, and frankly, after the last couple of weeks she needed some.

The idea of portkeying to location made her cringe, she was traveling by portkey to Romania every year but she was still not used to it. The awkward landing, made for some embarrassing situations. She grabbed the hoop and seconds later found herself on what seemed like a roof. Happily, she only staggered a few steps and avoided any awkward situation. She fixed some imaginary creases on her skirt and straightened her posture. She grabbed her hair with two hands and rolled into a huge bun at the nape of her neck, and secured it magically. She wouldn't want anybody to land violently near her and manage to somehow tangle themselves in the mass of curls. She had been there before. It was painful. Before she had time to take in the beautiful scenery, a man appeared to welcome them to the estate. She eyed the man suspiciously, as she had always looked at strangers, especially those without the common decency of first introducing themselves.

She took the survey and noticed the already filled part of her physical abilities. She was rather impressed with its accuracy: she had a petite structure so strength was not her forte and her bones were small, but her eating habits, training and daily exercises had made her springy and agile, as well as kept her in exquisite health. However, setting her eyes on the Temperament category made her face turn to an expression of disgust. A four out of 5? With all her somber, cold and apathetic demeanor—her mental instability was setting her up for a 4?! Well, that wasn't fair. Would she forever be haunted by the "magnanimous gift" of her ancestors that swam in the Báthory gene pool? It wasn't her fault, she was ill and cursed, it wasn't her fault she was susceptible to awful mood swings... some that could turn her into a vicious, sadistic killing machine. She cursed her fate silently and proceeded to read the rest of the paper. She stopped at the last question of the psychological evaluation and reread it four times. Her face was rather amusing, somewhat shocked and confused, blinking blankly while trying to grasp the logic of the question. She did not do well with the absurd, and if this was a joke, it was rather—well, ridiculous!

She quickly grabbed her favorite self-inking quill from her bag and set to filling out the survey. The first field was easy enough, there was no other wand like Rózsa in the entire world, so "very special" seemed the obvious answer. The second question gave her a bit of trouble, she had never really thought on that, but she would be an heiress so living in the manor seemed only reasonable. From here on the survey was getting awkward at the least, but the prospect of waking up next to an animal, any animal, really, was always reason for excitement. The first thing that came to mind on the most dangerous thing she had, was her own persona, but since it wasn't an option she carefully analyzed the rest of the option. There were plenty dangerous books in the Báthory family, with both the libraries in Romania and England almost full of dark tomes, but books were not dangerous themselves, only the use of the knowledge they possessed was, so she thought the choice irrelevant. However, all the women born into the Báthory family were cursed and unstable enough, to be considered highly dangerous, so in the end, "family" was her choice. She only thought it obvious to tick the box for "Stalk the stalker" at the next question, "You do not go ahead and attack a stalker without having a chance to analyze him or her. Ignoring the stalker would be careless and rather idiotic, while reporting or befriending him—well, I won't even comment on that" she thought to herself.

The last question was a puzzle, a nonsensical one at that. She carefully weighed the rest of the choices and landed on what seemed closer to reason and logic: white. She never wore pants or socks when she was sleeping, and no matter from what she would be awakening, she supposed they would still be her feet. Her skin was pale enough to be considered white, so she reluctantly, ticked the box and sighed, mentally exhausted by her over-analyzing mind.

Naomi took the survey and filled it out quickly. With her wand twisting both directions, it was rather strange unique; she liked traveling, and often lived out of her magically enhanced bag; a walrus in her bed wouldn't surprise her, at least not with her friends; being stalked meant that Naomi was the prey--she preferred to be the hunter--so stalk the stalker; and sometimes she took advantage of her metamorph ability to imitate the effects of gillyweed to take a catnap underwater--something she did as a  fun training routine, but that turned into a fun habit (as long as she didn't mess up)--so sometimes she woke up with blue legs.

As far as dangerous thing went, Naomi had a fleeting moment of debate between friends and family, but her family quickly won out.  Even though she did have ferocious friends like Gracie, Naomi knew her family members were strict disciplinarians, tough authority figures, and were just plain tricky. She never knew what any of them were up to at any given time, even her goofy father.

Naomi handed her survey back to the caretaker as her physical traits filled out (something she wasn't as terribly interested in), rolling her eyes as Connor took out his purple pen and then took his sweet time on the whole thing.  She shook her head at the boy, and then smirked at Kelvin, "Maybe, 'so long as you didn't roll over in body paint like Todd likes to do for Quidditch matches--and 'den not wash it off 'til the next day." Really, she didn't understand why Connor did half the things he did sometimes.

Lua plopped Teacup behind a pumpkin and floated the rest of the way to class, where she greeted Professor Hagrid with a massive grin. It was the second day of classes after Halloween, and the  girl was feeling particularly spirited from a weekend full of pumpkin marmalade and maybe a little too much rum-soaked cake. Not that Lua Taylor wasn’t always particularly spirited.  She herded in with the rest of her classmates, placed a hand of chipped, mismatched nail polish on the hoop, and caught her breath delightedly as they whirled away from the garden and reappeared in the Lovegood sanctuary-- the Lovegoods were a particularly favorite little bit of Wizarding history for Lua, who loved stories about quirky witches and wizards more than she loved remembering dates. Luckily, a Care of Magical Creatures test was more suited to her strengths. Wobbling a bit, with a thick head of hair offering many strays and perhaps a bit of unintentional, coconut-scented whiplash toward the students on either side (she was not as seemingly practical as some of her classmates), she regained her balance soon enough and took a test sheet.

A woven bit of brightly colored string falling onto the paper as she bent over it (Lua had a beloved 90s hair decoration or two hidden in her mane), she bit her lip in concentration and began to answer the questions. While she wrote, one hand tugged absently at the waist of her skirt, under which her legs were folded pretzel-like.

She paused when she got to the bit about legs, but then thought, Gryffindor-ishly, but with the friendliest of lion-like mannerisms possible, rawr, and x’ed red. Green would have worked just as well, given her earthiness, but Lua was in a festive mood.

When she was finished, she looked up, toward the silver-haired Slytherin whose test-taking temperament was apparently the exact opposite of Lua’s. “That was fun, wasn’t it?” She asked with a smile.

Care of magical creatures was never one of her favorite subjects, though Professor Hagrid never ceased to be amusing. She wasn’t sure what kind of creature she would get assigned to her—but she hoped it wasn’t something stupid like a flobberworm. Merlin, that’d be embarrassing—and what would Connor think? She shook her head—why should she care what Connor thought? It didn’t matter that he was so handsome, charming, and clever.

“Shut up brain.” Juni muttered under her breath, and she took a look at the survey.

She slowly glanced up from the paper to give Hagrid a quizzical look. “A walrus, really? And a stalker?” She smiled weakly and let out a sigh, filing out the survey.

“YOU JUST WOKE UP, WHAT COLOR ARE YOUR LEGS?”

There was no option for obscenely polka dotted, though she wondered who in the world would have blue legs. Heliotrope Lejean, perhaps?

Re: [Nov 3] To Train Them Is My Cause (4th Years)

As the first batch of students filled out their surveys, Hagrid gestured for them to start moving towards the entrance, which was a large part of the rooftop covered in glass windows--where students could see shadows moving around inside,  "All right you lot, take a few steps forward, we're about to go inside."

The caretaker looked over the survey, nodding and bobbing his head side to side at the answers. He gave one final nod before saying, "All right then." Then, with a large smile he looked at the students and tore the survey into little pieces, which then immediately fizzled and disappeared. "We'll just need to wait a moment."

"And remember," Hagrid spoke us as they waited, "Don't use magic directly on 'em, to control these lil' uns in anyway, whether it's unconcious or concious," he bent over and gave a knowing nod to his students, "Ain't no way ta' build trust, which is what we're up to today. Else, they'll just be frightened--they don't react tha same way humans do to things." Hagrid then nodded at his students, most of whom should know this by now, ever since their first lesson chasing down their textbooks[1], but a reminder never hurt.

"All right," the caretaker smiled as he spoke up again, glancing into the windows, beyond which were several shadows lurking in the room, "You bunch, get some of your things ready--though we'll provide you all with anything else you need," He then gestured for the students to him into the building.

After entering the students were met with a staff member standing around several things: there was a large picnic wicker basket, making scratching and sniffing sounds; a small creature was sitting in a wet robe, with its back to the students and its legs out in front of it; a smaller creature was wound into a spiky ball around the shoes of another staff member; another creature was wrapped in a wet blanket--with a tiny nose and long whiskers sticking out of one end; then, a rather large staff member had a scrawny pink trunk wrapped around its arm; and finally another staff member sat by a bowl of  leaves and orchids.

"You two, Miss Foley and Miss Turner? Come towards the basket," the caretaker then gestured towards the picnic basket and then stopped them a few meters away from it. The caretaker then sucked his tongue between his teeth, making a kissing noise towards the basket. Immediately a long wet nose poked out of the corner of the basket, while a very scaley looking cat peered from out another corner. In fact, both creatures seemed to be covered in black scales[2], "You'll both need to coax them out of the basket first. Keep that in mind, since they were bread with some kind of reptile. Yours is the cat, Miss Foley, and yours the dog, Miss Turner," and then the man moved over to the robed creature.

"Mr. Todd..." he said gesturing for the boy to approach the dripping wet robe, "I can only offer that you remain amiable," and with that the creature suddenly stood  up and turned around and looked at the Ravenclaw--it was a scrawny wide-eyed monkey with webbed feet and hands. It quickly dashed its way over to Connor and climbed up around the boy's neck before it began rummaging through the child's pockets. "A wizarding sea monkey," the man said proudly. "Not a hybrid, just rescued from some poachers." And without another word the man continued.

"Mr. Watkins," the man point down towards to the spiky ball which unfolded into a scrawny lizard[3] before it curled up and rolled onto Kelvin's foot and then up his pants, "When he rolls all over everything--and I mean everything it only tingles, keep him calm else he'll start pricking you. Try to get him out of his ball first." Then he moved onto the next creature, wrapped in a wet blanket.

"Miss Taylor--" but as they approached the wrapped blanket a dripping wet creature[4] wriggled from the wrap, and onto its back and stared up at Lua. "Be quick, and--" but the man barely got in another word as the magical seal let out a happy throaty growl and raised itself onto its back fins and front paws, with an impressive show of strength, and then it walked towards the Gryffindor, while dragging its fins behind it, "--Try not to get this one overexcited," the man finished before the seal stood up and tried to sniff Lua's face.

"Miss Báthory," the man then took the remaining three students over to the large staff member, but gestured towards the trunk around the man's arm, "Yours is shy, but is quite silly when you can get her out of her shell," and that a small pink elephant poked its head out from behind the staff member, glancing at the group of students before hiding again, "And don't worry about her size, she doesn't much bigger than that." He gestured for Amara to approach the creature before he took the last to to the bowl of flora.

"Miss Torret and Miss Zamperia, these are Puck fairies, but you may call them whatever you like," the man then tapped the bowl of flora and two small delicate fairies jumped out and posed on the edge of the bowl, spreading their colorful leafy butterfly wings--one was pink and was one green. One then patted down her small leafy dress while the other tipped her flowery hat to the girls, before the caretaker shook his head and reached down to pluck the flowers off the little faeries' heads, "And don't let them fool you," with the flower now gone the students could see that two small winged creatures had small green leafy horns peaking out of their hair, "They're possibly more mischievous than your classmate, Mr. Todd seems to be." The fairies then pouted out their bottom lip before sticking their tongues out and making faces the caretakers and the students, "So getting their respect might prove difficult."

The caretaker then stepped back and regarded the students and their professor, who seemed to be hovering over his students with bottled up excitement. The caretaker smiled and then finally added, "Let us know if you all have any questions!" he said happily as everyone began working with the creatures.

Travelling by portkey was routine- in Latvia, it was the chosen method of transportation for her concert troupe. Emilija had landed on both feet, tilting forward to keep from landing on her back, and straightened like a ruler. What an odd class. It was nothing at all like Durmstrang. Maybe that was a good thing.

The little Zufreiden had quickly received and filled up her form- distracted only by the irritating boy and his comments about his... privates. She felt maybe that he deserved another little hex aimed at those parts in particular but she was already behind with the sheet and concentrated on trying to genuinely finish it. It was important to finally see the creatures, niet? The whole point of this lesson.

Blazing...Hell...

Casey thought he had gotten used to side along apparation with Dingy. He'd be nauseated and disorientated for minutes afterward but just a few minutes. Nothing like side along from a half giant! It had been kind of weird, there was so much Professor Hagrid to go around he was like a giant portkey but did size necessarily mean...?

Upon arrival of whoever-cares-care-facility-sanctuary, Casey had fallen to his knees. Nothing upchucked and no passing out but the apparation motion sickness was vivid enough it was as if an invisible sign was floating over the fourth year saying 'Very Ill, Going for a Rest, Do Not Disturb' on it in blinding invisible letters that even the least of body language readers could comprehend.

So, Casey stalked off for a bench with one of the little surveys. The whole thing was confusing and not the sort of meditative help his mind needed at the moment but he plowed ahead anyways as he waited to feel better. He already lived at a mansion but a lair, perhaps a volcano, sounded much cooler. In the non-temperature sense. And what the heck kind of sleep had he been having if he woke up with a walrus and blue legs? Blueberries were probably involved but he was scared as to why his unchecked magic would manifest as 'walrus'...

Of course, the automatically filled in physicality section was annoyingly accurate and could not be crossed out no matter how many swipes were made with the quill.

The caretaker walked back outside, where another round of students had finished their survey. He quickly looked over them and then quickly tore them up again before waiting another moment. He let the young Slytherin boy recover for a moment until he ushered him back inside with the Durmstrang girl, where students were already working on establishing a relationship with their new comrades.

But this time Hagrid took two students to where they needed to go. First, they approached a staff member with a ridiculously large dragon fly sitting on his shoulder, with a ten inch long wingspan.

"O'Doherty," Hagrid began as he looked at the meek Slytherin, "No it ain't a insect 'fore you say anythin'--It's a raptor," Hagrid then grabbed its abdomen and gently pulled on it. As he did it stretched and became long and scaley, the head of the dragonfly then separated like a snake's mouth and hissed, revealing its true nature, "It's a sneaky devil--a snake. Pretends to be a bug to hunt down prey." Hagrid then wrapped the creature's tail around his finger and lifted it away from the staff member, and towards Casey, "If ya' look closely enough, s'got fingers on the end of its black legs too."

Hagrid eased his grip on the reptile and let its tail retract into that of a dragonfly abdomen again, and put on its charade of being a rather large insect. Then he let the creature crawl onto the ground at Casey's feet, but it moved slowly and stayed low to the ground, like a lizard rather than a bug. "Might take you a while, but get him use to ya, figure out what it likes ta' do fore you start tryin' to teach it something." It was really interesting what manner of creatures wizards could take under their wing and teach--some were always harder than others, especially reptiles, but if anyone knew how to tame a reptile--it was a Slytherin.

Hagrid moved to the next staff member with the Durmstrang student, "Miss Cihala,," he began, "You got, a salamander," Hagrid then pointed towards a staff member, wearing a heavy leather glove with a large salamander[1] hooked into his arm, smiling mischievously.

Hagrid ushered the Durmstrang girl towards the creature as the salamander gave a heavy hiss as his mouth filled with fumes and the colors decorating his skin glowed a deep orange, like he were laughing.

"Take care fer his claws and tails, but get him movin' on his own--then he should be sweet as can be," Hagrid then coaxed the lizard off the staff member's arm and onto his sleave as he lowered it for Emilija to take,"Jus' don't let him breath on yer face."

Though Hagrid cautioned her not to get the animal too excited, it was impossible; as soon as its twitchy, curious whiskers tickled her cheeks, Lua was in love. (Very possibly before that.) She looked up at Hagrid with a floaty grin and gleam of I-heard-you-but in her eyes. “Thank you, Professor Hagrid!” Lua said with caught-breath excitement, as if the man were Saint Nick himself. She seemed to have already forgotten his mild warning.

The harp seal flopped, dripping, toward Lua, who leaned toward it, eyes going wide as she lifted her brows with new concentration and a Hello-I’m-Lua-ish greeting. In fact, she said just that. “Hello, I’m Lua. And you are...”

Well, she’d have to think on that, but already a list was beginning to materialize on the jumbled parchment in her brain.

Sitting up straight, she attempted to get the seal to mimic her. Good posture was a start. She lifted her wand and tilted her head at him. The seal tilted his head, too, mirroring her. “We’ll find you a name,” she promised, glancing over his his snowy, wet bundle of sealness. She looked right and left, caught sight of her friends collecting their animals, and offered grins of confidence to her peers and the seal’s future friends. Both Naomi’s and Connor’s charges seemed to suit them wonderfully, but that was no surprise. Hagrid knew what he was doing!

“Do you think you can slide down this way?” She asked, gesturing with her wand. Lua hopped to her feet from a kneeling position, and walk slowly back, toward the opposite end of the sanctuary, beckoning. The seal, who was used to the slipperiness of snow, but no so much the sanctuary floor where the students were gathered, stood on its hind fins and came after her. She grinned, more than a little inspired. Lua cast a stream of water along the floor, and concentrated hard on a Freezing Charm to create a slide of sorts. Eyes relaxing as it worked, she bit her lip triumphantly and watched the seal flop onto its belly and come sliding at her-- and fly straight past her, thanks to the speed it had worked up.

It spun as it slid onto non-icy floor, disorienting itself like a barking toy. As it came to a stop beneath a potted plant, it looked up dazedly. Lua's brows shot up and she gasped a little, heading for it. When it saw her, the seal began to flop in her direction, apparently still a little disoriented. Lua was not discouraged; it was making progress already! “Like that, yes!” As he stumbled over himself (in the way that a dizzy seal would stumble, anyway), Lua mimed in its direction, offering a sympathetic expression even as she encouraged it. She stopped herself from Accio Sealing the little ball of (now whimpering) arctic fur past a classmate, whose things may or may not have been in the damp path of the creature as it regained its balance and gained speed again-- this time it tottered onto its hind fins and made it safely back to its trainer. Lua grinned down at it as if it had run the London Marathon.

Yes! A fairy! Zoe's face lit up when she was shown who she was assigned. As the earlier generations of her family kept tame fairies around the house, the young witch hoped she'd have little trouble with this.

After the hats were taken off, Zoe's eyes widened. Wait, Puck... Pixie? As the Ravenclaw listened to Hagrid finish his explanation, it became clear that earning respect would need to be before training it. At least vanity was easy to play to.

Hagrid moved on, leaving the two girl with the two fairies. The girl had a few moments to choose her creature. She wanted a very vain fairy and, by first impression, the pink one had seemed the vainer of the two. She turned to her dormmate. "I'll take the pink fairy," she whispered before stepping towards the two. Zoe reached to the flora, picked a flower similar to that which her creature had been wearing, and then bent down to the pink fairy. The fairy, still putting on the display, leapt into the air and grabbed a section of the young witch's hair that had drooped past her shoulders.

There was a sudden sharp pain as the fairy yanked on the hair, then began to swing on it. Zoe gave a small squeak of surprise. "Let go of my hair please." The fairy didn't respond. "Let go of my hair." A firmer tone, the only part the fairy understood. She stuck out her tongue at the human. The Ravenclaw sighed, holding up the flower. "Would you like your hat back?" Her creature slowed her swinging to look at the presented object, then darted into the air and snatched the flower.

Zoe drew her two-way mirror from her pocket, currently a simple mirror, deciding to test how vain the fairy truely was. She held to up to the pink winged creature. The Puck fairy paused putting her hat on to look curiously at this new item and, with her small amount of intelligence, recognized herself. Soon the creature was lost in her own reflection, adjusting different parts of her appearance. Well, that was one way to control her. Now for some actual training.

"Let's start with something simple. Spinning." Zoe put her mirror back into the pocket of her robe. The fairy pouted at the loss. The girl made a circle motion with the pointer finger of her right hand. "Spin." She made the motion again. Her creature wouldn't budge. "Hmm..." Maybe she could try one of the ways she had seen Rebecca train her dog.

The young witch reached out for the fairy's hand. The fairy darted away, so Zoe took out the mirror again. After hesitation, her creature returned. Taking the opportunity, she took the creature's tiny hand between two fingers before taking away the mirror. The fairy immediately struggled, kicking at the hand holding her captive. She buzzed seemingly nonsensically, a few times turning to the green fairy. "It's alright, I won't hurt you."  Zoe gently rubbed her thumb up to the pink fairy's elbow then back down to her hand in a calming motion repeatedly. The fairy's protest died down, then came to a stop. Maybe Zoe could do this.
