Re: [11 Nov] Covert Coven [CLOSED] Reply #15 on September 04, 2012, 08:56:52 AM Huffing puffs, how was this continuously possible? She could retrieve her wand wandlessly (duh!) and somehow could cast a Patronus charm. Or claimed to at any rate. When she appeared for all purposes to have the emotional range of a brick."Oh really? A demonstration to back up your claim might be in order then. Have you ever figured out how to send messages via Patronus?" Hexy had it figured even if she hadn't cast a corporeal patronus yet. The knowledge was slowly getting more known but the key lay to understanding Dumbledore and the Order of the Phoenix, where the variation had originated. If a Patronus was fueled by a powerful memory, wanting to share 'good news' that aligned with those memories must be the trick."Fine, knock yourself out with them." She passed over the stack of lessons/suggestions. If Avialae was looking for clues as to the hidden identities there would be nothing save short almost contrite writing. "There must be something in there you must not know how to do yet." Not for the first time, she wished that they had not been provided with masks that covered up the level of disgust in her expression. Her body began to project her confrontation attitude. Her shoulders squared off, she leaned slightly forward, and tension crackled on her skin. Her wand was in her hand and her fingers clenched and unclenched around the handle. She wanted to cast a curse. Or throw a chair. Something. Anything! She was tired of their childish bickering and snide, pathetic attempts to one-up each other but she didn't know what else to do or say. She'd already exhausted her ideas. She was not politically inclined, she'd never make a good negotiator. She just wanted something to happen and happen now. She resumed her irritated pacing from earlier, her steps echoed off the stone walls of the classroom. "I don't believe for a second that you're above us in any way," she snapped at the Raven, just before turning on her heel and pacing back in the other direction. She stopped when she reached her unnofficial place at the tip of the triangle. Once again she turned and glared at the Raven, hoping her meaning was conveyed well enough in the rough, low tenor of her voice since it could not be by her expression, covered as it was. "We were all asked to be here for a reason, so I suggest you cease your cheap posturing and do something productive with all that hot air." She had been playing nice, right? And when the girl threw those words in the air, that whining specifically meant for her, Amara couldn't help but remember her sister, and how bad of a loser she was when she was young, so the ice queen, most surprisingly chuckled. Low enough to not be noticed audibly, however her posture changed, and no trace of tension could be seen. She supposed "hot air" is what it all was, it was in her nature to be that way, and in this situation everybody would be that way, wouldn't they? She was happy for the mask, happier than before that is, she couldn't very well ruin her reputation by smiling, or "smirking" —to be more realistic— at the petulant display of frustration. And so, with the mood set, she brought forward memories of her mother, and her family as it was in its happiest days. She remember her mother, her radiance and warmth, the way she used to light up any room, the way she used to sing to them and make everything seem surreal and dreamy. She remembered her father, the way he used to dote on her before Emilia, the way he used to chuckle lowly whenever she tripped or did something silly —yes, she was quite clumsy and silly as a child—, the way he teased and played with both herself and her sister. She remembered her parents together, and the way they used to look at each other and love each other when they thought she wasn't looking. She remembered Emilia, and the first time they brought her home, a little pink bundle of naughtiness, the way she always had someone fussing about her, the way she, herself, struggled to keep her out of trouble, the joy she brought around her... It made sense that all her happy memories of importance where from those times. Her life had been anything, but since then. So she found herself smiling, and teary-eyed, happy again for the mask that covered her display of emotions. She closed her eyes, as the silver-white mist shot around her, and let herself be enveloped by its warmth, only to open them abruptly at the sound of one very amusing, high-pitched "Caaaaaw!". The glowing, translucent bird was flying around the three girls, doing silly loops and turns in the air. It flew right above the Cat's head and turned its head back to look at the girl, as with some mocking expression and then flew straight across toward the Dog-masked girl and settled itself briefly on her head. The raven shot up in the air, spiraling towards the ceiling only to stop mid-way and let itself fall rapidly to the ground. Centimeters close to the ground, it flapped its wings and picked up its flight. Amara chuckled silently again and muttered amused, moving her head from left to right accusingly "Silly bird...". The raven flew towards Amara, and her now extended arm and settled itself on it. "Unfortunately, despite having the resources and contacts, I have yet been able to extricate information on sending messages through it. But I will get there soon enough..." she left the last sentence hanging, as if wanting to add something, but not so sure if it would've been a wise idea. Disbelief that turned into seething hatred that there was somebody better than her in regards to that spell. Although part of it was the lack of experience, the Patronus Charm kept being shuffled to the bottom of the list as more interesting and difficult magics took priority during private training times."Impressive." Somehow she managed not to make it sound like a scathing scrap of sarcastic slander. "You can produce a corporeal patronus. If we," she glanced to Canidae, "work at it we could learn to do the same. And if all of us put in the effort we could learn how to send them as messengers." The sound of the bird cawing had almost worried her that Avialae could do that too but it was coincidental. It would be too much of a stretch for a fourth year to understand the complexities of having a messenger patronus even if the corporeal form could be learned at a young age."You can't deny how useful that is. Instant and secure communication only for the person the message is sent to. So..." More pride swallowing. She was going to choke if she had to do anymore. "Is it feasible that we could try to learn something together?"She set the various letters with plans on the table. "Geminio!" The stack split into two other stacks on either side so there were three exact copies of everything. "See what other kind of magic interests you," she said as she held out the other ideas for difficult magic to attempt, "something else we could work on. Because none of us are perfect..." A brief glance towards the Amazing Avialae with her wandless retrieval and corporeal patronus."...yet." None of us are perfect yet, like Avilae was quickly on her way to being so. Katy, although grudgingly impressed by the display of magic at least two years of intensive study beyond where they ought to be, strongly resented how Avilae insisted on showing off. She was aloof and somewhat oblivious which weren't qualities Katy valued highly.Katy came forward and accepted the papers that Felinae copied. She would look at them and perhaps pick something to learn or study. At the end of this meeting, however, she wasn't certain she'd be coming back. She was tired of being overlooked. That it happened here where no one knew her only proved there was something fundamentally wrong with her that kept people from liking her.Katy looked between her two companions and did as she always did, spoke the blunt truth as she saw it. "I find it difficult to imagine that a cat, a dog, and a bird will ever be able to play nicely with one another. This meeting certainly hasn't given me much hope of that happening any time soon. But I suppose we can all try." With one last, lingering look at Avilae, whom she silently blamed for their inability to call a passable truce, Katy turned her masked face to the door and walked away. Only time would tell if this would be a waste of time. She'd give it another shot at least. She was intrigued by this little group, not so much by its actual purpose, but because of the reactions she caused in them, and in return the reactions they caused in her. The two girl were interesting, completely different and, yet, so much alike. She did feel out of place between the two of them, but then again, when had she not felt out of place between humans? Perhaps her studies on human emotions could benefit from this little gathering...She looked at her raven Patronus one last time and ended the magic that kept it alive. She picked up the stack of papers and gave it a furtive glance. She'd have enough time to peruse them and decide what could actually be an addition to her suitcase of knowledge, and perhaps, if only for the sake of sharing knowledge, she'd also make some additions to the list. She was slightly amused by the Cat's comments on perfection, as if such concept truly existed, but she chose to not make her thoughts on the matter known."Very well, I will study the letters and make my choices known the next time we see each other" she said while looking intently at both of them, as if trying for one last time to asses their identities. She watched Canidae's billowing robes disappear beyond the door and turned to look at Felinae. "I expect I'll be seeing you more often. I have a... hunch that despite our differences we may be more on the same page than we are with Miss Canidae" with that she slightly inclined her head and set for the door.Once she opened the door to the classroom she turned once more to look at the dog-masked girl. "I look forward to our next meeting" she said, and found she actually meant it, then proceeded to close the door behind her Skip to next post
