Full Character Name: Neville Longbottom
Character Birthday & Age: July 30 1980 ~ 31
City & Country of Birth: England
Blood Purity: Pureblood
Alma Mater: Hogwarts ~ Gryffindor
Job/Position: Herbology Professor at Hogwarts

Wand: When Neville started at Hogwarts he inherited his father's wand. However like many hand me down wands, it never really respected Neville as it's owner and often caused problems for him while trying to use it. The wand was broken during the Battle in the Department of Mysteries.

Before his Sixth year  Neville visited Ollivander's for the first time and purchased a wand of his very own. The wand was 13" cherry wood, with a unicorn hair core.

Physical Description: Neville was once a doughy awkward boy who never really grew into his skin until his final years at school when thankfully puberty became rather kind to him. As an adult Neville is tall and lean, his few years as an Auror have given him nice muscle definition and he tries to keep active to keep himself in shape.

He has chestnut brown hair and hazel eyes, his front teeth are slightly bigger than average but they lend to a rather charming smile. Neville often wears his hair short with a spiked up fringe and a soft layer of stubble on his cheeks.

Due to a duel during his time as an Auror Neville's right knee was shot. He's gone through many hours of physical therapy for the injury but still often walks with a limp and when the weather is too rainy he can be seen using a cane.

Personality Description: In his school days Neville was a shy, introverted and often picked on young lad. He was anxious to live up to the family name but had no idea how to do so. He had never been very good with magic and was constantly bullied by his fellow students (and one particular Professor) He was often seen as a fool and had a hard time remembering things.

Throughout school and the subsequent battles of the Second War Neville grew into a strong and confident fighter, relying on the strengths he did have and became a strong asset in the Battle of Hogwarts.

Now as an adult and former Auror Neville is confident, kind, gentle, charming and incredibly caring. His knack for Herbology has only gotten stronger and he's eager to share his love of all living things with others.

He's fiercely loyal to anyone his calls a friend and proud beyond measure of his family (and for the first time is a source of honour for them as well)

Though charming, sociable and talkative he's not all that good with romance. He had once been engaged to Hannah Abbot but after leaving the Auror Corps due to his injury the couple had a falling out and Neville has since distanced himself from that part of his life.

History: Neville was born to well known and respected Aurors Frank and Alice Longbottom. When he was young just over a year old and the Dark Lord had been vanquished, Neville's parents had been attacked by a group of Death Eaters and tortured into madness. Neville was left in the care of his Grandmother Augusta Longbottom while his parents became permanent residents at St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies.

Neville's grandmother was very stern and strict with him growing up. While he didn't want for anything he wasn't given everything either. Most of the family feared that Neville was a squib since he had never shown any signs of magic at a young age. His Uncle Algie often tried to force magic out of him, like the time he threw the young boy into the lake and nearly drowned him. Neville didn't show any signs of magic until he was eight, when his uncle Algie was hanging him out a window and accidently dropped him when offered a piece of cake. Thankfully Neville bounced when he hit the ground and kept bouncing till he was out of the garden and almost out on the street.

The family was proud that he was magical after all but since there were no real incidents afterwards his Grandmother kept worrying that he wouldn't have enough magic to get into Hogwarts. Neville was raised with the knowledge of what happened to his parents and was taught to be very proud of their sacrifice though Neville found it hard to be proud about a couple who rather if ever recognized him and were too mad to be able to live outside the hospital.

When Neville turned eleven he got accepted into Hogwarts, with his father's old wand and toad given to him by a proud uncle he was sorted into Gryffindor and met three fellow first years that would soon become his best friends.

Neville first year at Hogwarts had not been an easy one. Due to a lack of confidence in nearly anything he did, Neville was often picked on, particularly by the Slytherins and Professor Snape. The lessons were wrought with troubles, from forgetting his supplies to melting his cauldron. There didn't seem to be anything Neville was all that good at until he met Professor Sprout and was introduced to Herbology. From the start, Herbology was the only thing that Neville excelled at and he felt completely confident about his skills in it.

As Neville made his way through his years at Hogwarts his lessons became only slightly easier though the teasing never really stopped. However the best thing to happen to Neville was making friends, specifically with the famous trio Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. From the very start Neville found himself mixed up with the three Gryffindors and often got into trouble right alongside them.

Neville didn't start coming into his own until his fourth year at Hogwarts. The 'fake' Professor Alastar Moody had shown the students the three unforgivable curses, the cruciatus curse in particular had Neville almost in tears in the middle of the class (being the curse that had tortured his parents into madness) Neville still kept his secret from his friends at the time but the Professor had taken him under his wing so to speak and had given him a few fascinating books on Herbology. At the time had he known that the Professor was really Barty Crouch Jr - one of the Death Eaters who had been present while his parents were tortured - he probably would have felt differently about his kindness.

The following year Neville found a new talent in Defense Against the Dark Arts. All pratical lessons had been banned by Professor Umbridge and Neville's friends had formed Dumbledore's Army, a way for the students to prepare themselves for the inevitable war. Under Harry's tutelage Neville showed a talent for the subject he had never shown under any other teacher.  Neville accompanied Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Luna to the Ministry of Magic and fought in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries during which his nose and wand were broken. Neville came face to face with the woman responsible for his parents torment and experienced the cruciatus curse himself at her hands. When the Order of the Phoenix arrived Neville returned to Hogwarts with the others and got his nose fixed.

This was a defining moment for Neville, he had fought off Death Eaters, has faced Bellatrix LeStrange and had helped the Order of the Phoenix. During his sixth year Neville felt more comfortable with himself and his skills, it also helped that he had gotten his very own wand which was much more agreeable than the one he had inherited from his father. Neville was also rather pleased with the fact that Snape was no longer teaching potions and while he didn't seem to qualify for Professor Slughorn's exclusive Slug Club he did fair better in the subject with a Professor that wasn't constantly insulting him. Despite the struggles his friends endure during the year Neville's was rather normal until the Battle of the Astronomy tower where he fought alongside Dumbledore's Army when the Death Eaters invaded Hogwarts. Neville was seriously injured and spent an entire week in the Hospital wing to recover though was able to attend Dumbeldore's funeral near the end of term.

Neville's final year of Hogwarts was both his best and his worst. Alongside Ginny and Luna, Neville reinstated Dumbledore's army to openly rebel against the Death Eater's regime in the school lead by the new Headmaster Severus Snape. They defied the Professor's in classes and the corridors. They talked back, openly recruited, refused to follow orders that endangered other students and broke others out of detention. Neville put a stop to most of the most open rebellion when a member of the D.A was tortured after being caught freeing a first year. Neville focused most of the retaliation on himself being beaten and tortured several times throughout the year as his fellow leaders left school all together (Luna during Christmas and Ginny after Easter)

The situation became more and more serious as Neville stood as the lone leader of the D.A until he feared the Carrows would actually kill him but his grandmother was on the run evading Death Eaters and Neville had nowhere to go. He found solace in the Room of Requirement creating a secret passage between the castle and the Hog's Head receiveing food from Abeforth Dumbledore and offering respite to any of those still being hounded by the Carrows.

When the Battle finally came to Hogwarts Neville was right in the thick of it explaining to Harry, Ron and Hermione what he had managed to do in the past year without them. It was obvious to his close and dear friends that Neville was finally becoming a man and was no longer the wimpy doughy boy who used to follow them around.

Near the end of the Battle Neville was tasked by Harry with a very important mission. When it seemed the Boy Who Lived had finally died, Neville openly defied Voldemort himself and was forced to wear a burning sorting Hat for doing so. Thankfully because of his bravery Neville was able to pull Godric Gryffindor's sword from the Hat which he then used to kill Voldemorts pet snake Nagini and the final Horcrux that allowed for the Dark Lord to truly be killed.

When the smoke settled, the wounds healed and the general shock of the end of the Second Wizarding War was over Neville entered the Auror Academy alongside Harry. While his marks hadn't exactly been what admissions were looking for no one could refuse the bravery he had shown during the war and the major tip in the scale Neville had caused by killing Nagini. With the confidence and maturity he had gained from surviving war Neville excelled in most of his subjects at the Academy and after three long and hard years was made a full fledged Auror.

Neville made a good Auror, making his Grandmother more proud than she ever thought she could be of him. Neville visited his parents as often as he could and told them about everything that had happened and wished they could show some sign of knowing what he had done, how important he had become in the end.

For three years Neville enjoyed work as an Auror, taking particular interest in any case that involved, illegal and exotic plants, or unknown toxins, poisonous booby traps and the like. He still had his knack for Herbology and was gladly a consultant whenever other Aurors, or other departments for that matter, needed his expertise.

In his fourth year as an Auror Neville was tracking down a particularly slippery smuggler who was getting a nasty strain of Devil's Snare into Knockturn without being caught for it. After months of following the smuggler's trail Neville finally had it out with a duel. In the end he won and the smuggler was brought in but Neville suffered a nasty curse to his right knee and spent a month in St Mungo's trying to recover. When he returned to work he had a severe limp and was afraid he wouldn't be able to work in the field as well as he had in the past. A few months doing nothing but desk work Neville found himself becoming lost and depressed and decided it was time to leave the corps.

At the time Neville had been engaged to Hannah Abbot, a former Hufflepuff from their year but after his injury and subsequent leaving of his job the couple began to drift about and eventually Hannah called off the engagement.

Neville spent the following years working in different Greenhouses across the country feeling more at ease and at home amoungst the plants. At age Twenty Seven  he decided to build a greenhouse of his own. He purchased a small house in Hogmeade with enough land in the back for a decent sized one. The bottom half of the house was then converted into a Tea Shop and the top became Neville's home.

With several waitresses and clerks working for him Neville made himself a flourishing business, selling healing teas while also dealing with his greenhouse, often selling plants to certain customers or offering nursing space to others. During the school year Neville was known for offering help to students coming over to Hogsmeade from Hogwarts. When the school year began in September Neville was approached by the Hogwarts Governors and the Headmaster himself to come aboard as the newest Herbology Professor. Neville leapt at the opportunity and relished in the thought of being back at Hogwarts.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them: Neville is currently the Owner of The Sleeping Dragon Tea Shop in Hogsmeade however now that he's taken the post as Herbology Professor the shop is run by a competent and friendly staff. The small shop serves two purposes for Neville. The front of the shop is a standard looking Tea Shop that serves brews for many different purposes, anything from a good earl grey to a brew that helps you sleep to one that cures acne.

In the back of the Shop is Neville's private greenhouse that has essentially become a miniature version of those found on the Hogwarts grounds. Neville houses many different exotic and common magical plants, which have all flourished under his care. All the herbs used in the shops brews come from Neville's greenhouse, he also sometimes sells plants to interested customers or helps grow seedlings into plants for others.

Since September of '09 Neville has been working at Hogwarts as the latest Herbology Professor. Neville is responsible for three large Greenhouses out on the school grounds while teaching all seven years of students. Using his own Herbology Professor - Pamona Sprout - as inspiration Neville tries to keep his lessons entertaining while still educational. He's nervous about teaching but he's more than confident in his skills especially when it comes to his plants and is excited to share his wealth of knowledge with the younglings.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field: Neville has always had a knack for Herbology, ever since his first year of Hogwarts. He has what in the muggle world would be called a 'Green Thumb' he's never had a plant die on him. Likewise Neville's rather good at making things from plants like healing remedies, some potions and more notably his herbal teas.

While an Auror Neville took interest in cases that deal with plant poisonings and various toxins becoming a veritable expert in the subject. This knowledge has easily tranferred over when knowing which plants to house in his Greenhouse while also knowing how to properly care for them (not to mention which herbs not to mix together when making tea)

When it comes to teaching he's a little rough around the edges but makes up for his inexperience with passion for the subject. Neville is able to approach the subject in a fun and entertaining way that he hopes will help the students learn better than spouting off a bunch of facts and having them copy them down. After all Herbology is the one subject that is all about getting down and dirty.

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Neville is like the Ugly Duckling of the Wizarding world. He didn't start out all that well but has now become a strong confident and charming man. His love of plants has become stronger over the years and is one he's willing to share to anyone who'll listen. To those he calls friends Neville is a loyal protector and would fight with his life to keep them safe. He's fond of the students and is always willing to share his wisdom when it comes to Herbology.
