[Oct 19] Hide and Seek [Alexia]

on June 21, 2012, 03:31:25 AM

A little while after dinner, Library

Lorian rushed into the Library, her beige satchel thumping on the side of her leg with every step. People were scattered around the Library, mostly Ravenclaws, others had yet to come up from dinner or were someplace else. Slowing to a brisk walk as she entered the Library, Lorian's eyes scanned across the tables as she walked past them. Her heart was still racing from her quick dash from the Hufflepuff common room and she was huffing like she just ran a marathon. Losing a possesion was not something Lorian did often, she was organised and neat, she would never lose track of anything she owned. Lorian's mind was frazzled, she couldn't think straight in situations like this. She was not able to deal with stress efficiently and effectively. Her mind ticked through the day, trying to pinpoint the place and time in which she lost her reading glasses, only remembering taking them out of her bag in the Library.

For as long as she has been reading, Lorian has always had the need for prescription glasses. Her poor eyesight was something she was extremely uncomfortable with and still is now, choosing to rather go without them. She hates wearing her glasses, but if she reads without them she gets pounding headaches from straining her eyes so much. So, in the discretion of the Library, Lorian had worn her glasses, just hours before, to prevent from the utter pain and annoyance of a headache. What prompted her to forget her glasses in the Library was a total mystery to herself. Was she more stressed than usual? Perhaps. Lorian may have been overreacting, possibly. But losing her only pair of glasses would be a terrible thing for her. She wouldn't have the courage to ask her mother to buy her another pair, it's not like they could afford it, anyway.

Lorian rounded a bookshelf and made a beeline to the small table in the corner of the room that she had used earlier in the day. She prayed silently to every God in the muggle world, that her glasses were there, waiting for her to return to them. Her eyes widened in shock and realisation as the table was bare. Completely empty. Letting out a small gasp, Lorian could feel the stress building up in her system, she was on the brink of being a total mess and she hoped that no one would see her in her moment of vulnerability. Realising she needed to calm down, Lorian stopped midstep and leaned against a bookshelf, closing her eyes. She ran through her mental map of the stars, naming her favourite star constellations in hope of not having a nervous breakdown in the middle of the Library. That would draw too much attention to herself.

Aah, these are the finer things in life, Alexia thought as she sat there, with a warm, full stomach and a book in her hands. 'E-mail, telephone and other muggle inventions' was the title and Alexia already loved it. Here we go, she thought to herself opening it on page 3...

Thumpthumpthump! the sound that would usually be unnoticeable was louder than an elephant's cry in the silent corner of the library. Her face set on storm, Alexia looked up, cover activated. As usual her pouty lips, slim figure and rather...sophisticated clothes made her look incredibly 'elite' and Alexia loved how it kept people at an arms length at least. Her angry facial expression evaporated though, when she saw what had caused the thumping: Lorian Edevane, 7th year Hufflepuff if she was correct, was looking absolutely mortified. She was searching for something, and by the looks f it, it was an important something.

Alexia immediately remembered how she'd felt when she'd lost her notepad a few days prior and the panic she'd felt then and made a decision. With her nose still up high she set her book down and strode over to the older girl. "What seems to be the matter, darling?" she asked with her honey sweet voice that was one of her trademarks.

When someone addressed her, Lorian almost jumped out of her skin. She had a reputation for being jumpy and being startled by people who seem to walk quietly so you don't hear them until they want you to, this time was no exception. Her eyes shot open and she quickly idenified the girl infront of  her. Alexia something-or-other, Lorian wasn't quite sure. Lorian admired her attire, it was so neat and sophisticated, making her look like a proper muggle business woman. Would it be wierd to tell her that? Would she take it as an insult or compliment? Lorian didn't know this girl well, what if she hurt her feelings? But what if she was feeling down today and needed a compliment to brighten her day?

Realising that she had just been staring at the younger girl for a little bit too long, Lorian fumbled for something to say. "Matter? Nothing's the matter!" She said in a much too cheery voice that was dripping with the essence of 'bad liar', "I j-just misplaced my glasses, no matter!"

Lorian smiled awkwardly, biting her lip slightly in anxiousness. She did not deal with stress well.

Alexia frowned a bit upon the staring she received; surely people would be used to her style after 6 years. Evidently they didn't and Alexia somehow felt...unimportant. She set aside soon though, as Lorian started to ramble in what was almost as incoherent as an African click-sounds-language. "There is no need to try and lie to me, dear," she said smiling, hoping it wouldn't look insulting, you never know when you tower above others, "I've already seen you panic.

"Now, as to find those glasses...I really hope you've already tried this, but you may not have...people tend to be so forgetful when they're in distress..." she mumbled, her shield vanishing and her brows furrowed in thought as she drifted off. She soon snapped back to reality; "what I meant to ask was whether or not you'd tried...I don't know...accio?" she immediately felt sorry for saying it, as she thought Lorian may take it as an insult. "My apologies," she hastily  continued, "I didn't mean to imply anything..." a light blush spread over her cheeks, making her feel vulnerable.

Seeing Alexia's reaction to her staring, Lorian instantly felt horrible. She was making the poor Ravenclaw feel uncomfortable. She mentally hit herself for acting like such a creep. Would complimenting her now make it worse? Before Lorian could figure out what to do, Alexia mentioned using a spell to find her glasses. Oh, how embarrassing. Lorian's face drained as she realised how clueless she had been.

"Accio? I didn't do that," She said dumbly, her tongue not wanting to articulate intelligent sentences, she paused slightly,  "You look lovely today, Alexia."

Realising how wierd that sounded, Lorian blushed crimson and turned away rummaging through her satchel to find her wand. With a sudden gasp, Lorian dropped her bag, it's contents spilling across the floor, and held her hands to her face. "I forgot my wand in the common room," She said, on the verge of tears. What was wrong with her today? First her glasses and now her wand. Was she losing her mind? Why did she have to lose expensive things? She could never afford to replace her glasses and her wand.

"Oh," Alexia said at Lorian's reply, "well then, it all worked out didn't it?" she smiled. God, had she hated going to the dentist before! But now that she had perfect white teeth she realized it was worth it. 'Too bad you never show them' her mother would've said and Alexia would've smiled her brightest smile in response. But now she found herself smiling too, at school, to a girl she hardly knew; Odd, she thought to herself. It became a lot clearer though then she heard her company's words.

Alexia blushed a crimson t match Lorian's, a whispered 'you do too,' unnoticeable to the ear. Alexia mentally punched herself for letting herself be so open to a stranger, feeling these...shocks and slight tingles under her skin, and she was about to huff and run, as was her usual escape method; but now the huffie seemed on the verge of tears as she realised she'd forgotten her wand. "Oh, honey," she said softly, "it's an easy enough spell...try it with my wand? I wouldn't be able to accio your glasses as I don't know how they look..." with a shy smile, rather unlike her image, she reached into her left sleeve and pulled out her wand from the inside before holding it out to...her...company, that's it...

Lorian contemplated denying Alexia's offer, a wand was not something to just be handed over to someone you've only just properly met. Biting her lip, Lorian reached out and took the Ravenclaw's wand and tested the weight in her hand. She ran her fingertips over the smooth surface and admired the overall look of the wand. Lorian was always fascinated by wands, taking every oppourtunity to inspect any wand she came across. Some would call her obsessed. But, she had an eye for fine art, so how could she resist admiring the beautiful craftmanship of a wand?

She breathed in a big breath of air and tried her best to connect with the wand that was not hers. Feeling the core's power under her fingertips. This was usual practice for her, something she always made sure to do before using another person's wand. One bad experience with a loyal wand was enough to ensure she was always careful now. She pictured her black framed glasses in her mind and pointed the wand.

"Accio, glasses." She said quietly, almost cringing away as she said the words. Lorian quickly handed back the wand and scanned the area for any sign of her glasses. Before she was able to panic again, she saw the glasses case soaring towards her in the air. Lorian was relieved to see them, until she realised that they were planning to reach her through Alexia.

Alexia chuckled at Lorian's strange approach towards her wand. The way she almost caressed the wood, as if it was extremely fragile; it just cracked the Ravenclaw up. She supposed Lorian liked wands just like she liked...books. Yes, books, Alexia thought furiously, almost blushing as her true, biggest hobby entered her mind. Mentally shrugging it off she pressed such thoughts back to the darker corners of her mind.

The spell was cast and suddenly Alexia had her wand pressed back into her hands. In a moment of slight shock at te sudden action she completely forgot how you need to have the wand in hand in order to shift the accio'd object's movements, and before she knew it she was knocked to the ground when Lorian's glasses collided with the back of her head.

Moaning a bit in pain Alexia got back up, rubbing the back of her head, before she noticed the glasses laying on the floor; on the the lenses had broken into pieces which were spread everywhere on impact. "Oh my god, I am so sorry!" Alexia exclaimed, "I didn't mean to...and now the're...oh dear..." the latter was said as she felt a weird warmth under her fingertips. Curious she got her hand out of her hair held it in front of her face. "Oh dear..."

Gasping at her stupidity, Lorian mentally hit herself for being so careless. She was so eager to give Alexia back her wand without damaging it, that she hadn't realised the impact of her descision. "Oh my gosh, Alexia!" She almost shrieked, her hands flailing in the air in front of the girl, "Are you okay?" Lorian prayed that the girl was not mad at her, she wanted desperately to be forgiven, not that she thought she deseved it. She didn't care for the state of her glasses, they could be easily fixed with a spell, she was more worried about the injured girl in front of her.

Lorian thought for a second before coming to a conclusion on her next actions. "You wait here, I'll be right back! I'm going to make a dash to the common room, I shouldn't be a minute!" Lorian was quite handy with a wand and she had studied plenty on the medical practices in magic. The damage to Alexia's head wasn't extensive and Lorian had fixed many injuries just like it on her older brothers. She hurried out of the Library, leaving her satchel and the items inside spilled across the floor, she broke into a run once she was out. If she ran, she could make it back in two minutes, Alexia would just have to wait there for her to get back.

As soon as Lorian had hurried out of the library, leaving everything behind in quite a messy state, Alexia broke out into laughter. It wasn't hard or longer than 30 seconds but it was genuine laughter nonetheless. She laughed at Lorian's face in utter shock, the awkwardness of the situation, the mess around her; heck, she even laughed at the shard of glass painfully stuck in the back of her head.

After she was done giggling, Alexia tasked herself with cleaning up the mess around her, picking up the glass (with a spell, mind the fingers! She didn't need more cuts), putting the various items that were splayed over the floor back into Lorain's satchel. After that was done she sat down on a chair, accio'd her hairbrush out of her bag and started to brush her hair away from the wound, as to make whatever Lorian was planning easier to do.

Her mind din't wander to the weird feeling that crept up to her as she thought of Lorian, but the feeling stayed put. Alexia blamed it on Lorian's nice lipgloss. The two minutes flew by and the pain was hardly felt due to the giddy feeling that overruled it.

Lorian had made it to the Hufflepuff common room and back in record time, with her ivy wand held tightly in her hand. She slowed, once again, when she entered the Library and hurried to where Alexia was waiting. When she arrived though, she was quite shocked. Did Alexia look happy? Or was she misreading the situation? She noted that her things had been put back in her bag, and that the pieces of her glasses were picked up. "Alexia," She said, breathless, wiping away a stray strand of hair that fell in front of her face, "I'm back, hold still okay?"

Moving behind the girl, Lorian parted her hair to inspect the wound. It wasn't too bad, she had seen worse on her brothers. Like when Aydin ran through a glass door and cut himself up, it looked like he was thrown through a paper shredder. Lorian shuddered as she remembered having to fix him up, well, she insisted that she did. With graceful flicks of her wand, Lorian mended Alexia's wound and eased the pain drastically. Stepping back a few steps to admire her handiwork, she let out a sigh of relief. All done.

"Are you feeling alright now? If you keep it clean, it shouldn't scar. I'm pretty good at this stuff." She said sweetly, a genuine smile spreading across her glossed lips.

Alexia refrained from looking up to see Lorian run back into the room and held back a flinch when the Huffie touched her head. Suddenly a warmth engulfed her where her wound was placed, before it cooled down completely. "Thanks," Alexia said softly after she'd checked the wounds with her own hands, happy to find it had been a very clean cut.

"Are you feeling alright now? If you keep it clean, it shouldn't scar. I'm pretty good at this stuff." was heard soon after.

"You sure are," Alexia chuckled, while brushing her hair back and lifting her head, "and I'll make sure to keep it clean; I wouldn't want a scar under my hair, hidden from sight, would I?" she teased. With a smile on her lips she laid her hand on Lorian's shoulder and leaned in before whispering: "We should go, people are starting to get annoyed by the noise we're making. How about we go and fix your glasses over some tea?"

Tea? Tea with a friend? Tea with Alexia? Lorian was not one to have tea with someone, she was usually too caught up with study. But most of the time, she refused these offers due to her awkwardness and ability to become nervous at the drop of a hat. She felt like she should go for tea with Alexia, but she was secretly afraid of hurting her again. What if she spilt hot tea in her lap? Accidently trodded on her feet or elbowed her in the side? No, no. She couldn't stand the thought of hurting someone twice in one day.

With the sweetest and most forgiving voice she could muster, Lorian replied, threading her fingers together nervously. "Sorry, Alexia, but I have to decline. You've been extremely helpful and i'm sorry again. I can fix the glasses in the common room. If there's anything you ever need, just come find me. I can even tutour you if you like?" As soon as those words left her mouth, Lorian realised they might sound degrading and insulting. She was a Ravenclaw, afterall, she wouldn't need help from Lorian. "Sorry, I didn't mean it in an offending way, it's just," She took a deep breath, "I'm sorry. Until next time, Alexia."

With a delicate wave of her hand, Lorian left the Library with a smile on her face. Not only had she found her glasses, but she had made a friend based of a very strange encounter. She liked it.
