Herschel trusted his staff. Most of them, at any rate. He considered them to be capable witches and wizards whose judgment he would rarely question. Naturally, there would be always be exceptions. Though Herschel did believe that all witches and wizards deserved a good education, and that nobody should be held back from achieving their full potential and realizing their dreams and aspirations, he could not help but continue to be convinced that Hagrid was a sub-par instructor and wizard. He was half giant, after all, and at one point had been expelled from Hogwarts and his wand broken.
Though Herschel tried to be a good, fair, and decent person there were some prejudices which were hard to overcome. Though he himself was no longer purist, he could not help but look down upon muggles and feel pity for muggleborns thrust into the life of magic. And he also had a hard time accepting someone who was not entirely, well, human, could be a capable employee. There was also the matter that Herschel had not been among those who had been entirely okay with hiring Hagrid to teach.
But there had been a lot of last minute changes to Hogwarts staff this year prior to the tournament. He had become headmaster. Ignan Storm deputy-head. Declan O Morain had quit staff. And there were plenty of other new professors to contend with.
Even so, he was curious as to how Hagrid had handled the aftermath of the brawl in the great hall. He had tried to be a good man and show his support- allowing Sandusky and Hagrid to take care of all the finer details- only intervening on the side of SAWS. But he could not resist the urge to basically check up on things... Even if he was only checking up on Hagrid's side of things. "Please, have a seat," the headmaster motioned to a chair, one he had already enlarged to comfortably house the extra size of his care of magical creatures professor. "Would you care for anything?" he asked. "Tea? Coffee?" Were it anyone else, he might offer them a brandy. It was the afternoon, after all, most did not have more classes to teach for the day.
