10 and 1/2 inches, springy, and rather knobby. Maple wood with a chimera scale core, a family heirloom.

Physical Description:
Mihai stands at about 5’8, with a lean and athletic build. His hair is dark and curly when he grows it out, and his skin is of an olive tone.  He tans very well, and quite easily, but he also tends to go a bit paler when he hasn’t been exposed to the sun.   Mihai’s far from being a hairless guy, and his body is covered by a soft layer of dark man-fuzz. Mihai takes great pride in the fact that he can so easily grow hair, because to him, it’s much better than balding. Although he shaves his face every day, by the afternoon he has a nice layer of stubble. As he has gotten older, little specks and streaks of his dark hair have been turning grey.

His eyes are dark brown in hue, with short, dark lashes.  Mihai’s face has a softness to it, but it also squares off nicely at the jaw. His forehead is a little bit larger than average, and he lovingly calls it his ‘fivehead.’ His nose is small, short, and hooked from the side, but a bit wider and fleshy from the front. His lips are average, and sometimes have a pinker tint to them.  His eyebrows are dark, archless, and naturally thick. There are some slight wrinkles on his face—laugh lines and forehead wrinkles, yet another result of growing older.

Mihai enjoys dressing nicely, with button up shirts and slacks.  He tends towards wizarding fashion most of the time but is not opposed to muggle clothing. He will occasionally wear more casual clothes if he is going to be lazing around the house with friends or his daughter.


Personality Description:
Mihai is someone who has never enjoyed settling down in the past, though now he is ready.  He is friendly, joking, and fun-loving when with his daughter and friends, but when it comes to his work, he is very serious and somewhat detached. He is a rather proud man, and is satisfied with where he is at in his life. There is a bit of a silent severity in his natural, resting expression and body language-- he's fierce when he needs to be, but is overall calm. When he was younger, he was stubborn to the extreme, but now that has lightened up some. He has become more open –minded and accepting about ideas he disagrees with. However, he is very stubborn about his beliefs regarding blood purity: he looks down upon pure-bloods the way that many pure-bloods look down upon muggleborns.

He is a very dedicated and loving father to Juni, but is not a stable companion as far as romantic relationships go, a habit he acquired from years and years of travelling and doing memory alteration work.  Although he easily detaches from situations, Mihai takes harsh criticism and insults to heart, and it hurts him deeply, despite the fact that he is also a very resilient person. He is a fairly social man, and enjoys making new friends—but he does not like having all the focus be on him. If he was in a story, he would much rather be a supporting character as opposed to a main character.

Mihai is generous, and donates much money to multiple charities. He likes to give back to his community in any way possible—after all, helping large groups of people is a way to ensure that he would get help if and when the time came. At the moment, most of his donations are split between St. Mungos and Hogwarts, to go toward people who cannot afford the expenses of  schoolbooks, robes and other school supplies.  Along with his generosity, pride, and stubbornness, Mihai is a man with many secrets. Many of these secrets are hidden even from himself.


History:
Mihai is from a long line of wealthy, intentionally half-blood Romani wizards, the Zamperia family.  He grew up in a small community of Portuguese-Romani witches and wizards. There is some migration in a few of the families, but many of them are thriving, many are simply surviving in this miniature culture. In this little culture, it is actually almost frowned down upon to be a pureblooded wizard, because that implies that your family has made no effort to spread the gift of magic throughout the community.  As a result, many of the most respected Portuguese-Romani families are half-blood.

This culture also has a high respect for muggleborn Roma people, taking them in as if they were part of the family. It is of the highest honor to be a muggleborn, as it is viewed as a sort of blessing. However, this culture also views squibs to be a punishment to the family for breeding with too many magicfolk. The Portuguese-Romani culture is known for it’s affinity with transfiguration, charms, and divination. The most common jobs for these wizards are in fields that revolve around charms, divination, or a combination of both. They do not put much focus on dark arts as they are not particularly aggressive or hostile people—favoring defensive and protective spells over offensive ones.

The Zamperia family, despite it’s lack of seers, is a well-respected family due to the fact that it has the longest history of half-blood breeding within his culture, and is viewed as the family that may have started that tradition many years ago.  People from the Zamperia line seem to be talented with charms and transfiguration. They are respected for their clever transfiguration disguises, and sometimes feared when their charmswork delves into the realm of memory alteration, as many traditions are told orally—not written.

As a child, his magical ability was encouraged—and he entered Beauxbatons Academy of Magic at the age of 11 where he flourished in his charms classes, appreciating the school’s respect for the arts as opposed to more violent magic. Throughout school, he grew frustrated with the idea of pure-blood superiority, as in his culture it was viewed in a completely opposite way. Although the school allowed mixed-culture students in, provided that excelled at examinations, he hated the idea that he should be ashamed for not being ‘pure.’ As a result, he was not at all quiet about his opinions regarding blood purity, and was very open about his family’s long half-blood history.

Mihai greatly respected Beauxbaton’s rigid no-bullying policy, and always was careful to follow the rules, and was a bit of an over-achiever during his years there. This was partially due to his pride and respect towards his own culture, and his internal desire to prove himself. 

After school, he recognized his intense need to travel and learn more about the world. He found a job where he received training for a year in the field of experimental memory charms. After he passed his training, he was sent all over the world to research about memory and magic. During his many years travelling, he also was a bit of a partier and he slept around with multiple women, and it was not unheard of for him to be in casual polyamorous relationships as well.

Despite all the travelling, his work had very flexible hours, and allowed him to work from wherever he wanted to go, for however long he wanted to study there.

His career had a vast amount of responsibilities, and as his skills developed and were recognized, he was brought in to help with the interrogations of criminals, and afterward altering their memories of any sort of interrogation. He also was responsible for altering the memories of those who had discovered top government secrets.

When he was in his mid-twenties, he worked mainly out of Portugal to help take care of his ill grandfather. It was then that he met a journalist by the name of Lovise Důghlas. They had a casual fling that resulted in a daughter who was born a month early, Juni. Juni was the first child he had ever been made aware of, and he made a point to be as involved in her life as possible, spending as many weekends with her as he could.

Juni is not his only child, as he has had many as a result of casual flings like the one he had with Lovise, but he is largely unaware of their existence. Two years after the birth of Juni, he got into his first serious, long-term relationship with a woman in Britain that resulted in another child. This is the only part that he remembers, as his job had gotten so risky at this point, and that family had discovered too much about his career and his line of work, that he needed to alter their memories when that child was just a baby. He left the mother money (and a new boyfriend) in order to help support the child. Afterwards, he altered the memories of Juni and her mother, before finally altering his own.

As Juni has gotten older, he had felt more of a need to be there, and to be in a more stable career. He also wishes to find out more about the mystery child in Britain, and thinks that he can start here. Although St. Albans isn’t that close to Scotland, it is much closer than Portugal ever was.  He hates having to permanently leave his community, but at the same time recognizes that he needed to get as far away from his previous job as he could reasonably be in order to make a cleaner break. So far, he is very satisfied with his new career as an Obliviator, even though the pay isn’t as good.


Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
Mihai is a brand new Obliviator for the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. His job is to make sure that the wizarding world remains hidden from muggles. If any muggles have witnessed magic, or have seen any magical creatures, it is his job to alter their memories.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
When he worked for the Iberian Alliance, his high-risk job was to travel and research the idea of memory, the brain, and magical alteration. Many times, he used these methods on himself, causing him to forget chunks of his life both intentionally and unintentionally. Over the years, Mihai became an expert in that area. Often times he was called in to help with the interrogation of criminals (ometimes he was sent with their aurors to capture criminals), and some of his methods were questionable—as is typical with high-risk jobs. He worked in that field for a little over twenty years.

 Recently, he has grown tired of travelling, and has decided to settle down in St. Albans both to get away from the stress and the questionable nature of his previous work, and to be slightly closer to his daughter (Who lives in Scotland, but you can’t be too picky when it comes to finding a job.) Being an Obliviator allows him to utilize his skills with memory alteration charms, while avoiding the risky experimentation of his previous career.

How did they learn or hone this ability?:
He learned this ability while undergoing training and work with experimental mind magic. He was sent all around the world to research mind magic, as well as alter memories from people who knew information that they 'shouldn't.' As his skills progressed, he was brought in to help with criminal interrogations-- and afterward erasing any memory they had of the interrogation. He was also responsible tracking down and altering memories of people who held government secrets.

He is absolutely not an Occlumens. He could not pick it up as well, which resulted in him being required to alter his own memories. He has recently begun to pick it up as he has not altered his memory in a long time, which makes him suspect that he inhibited his growth by altering his memories for so long.

Describe how the Special Ability influences their life.  What do they use it for?:
Now, Mihai simply uses it for his work as an obliviator. He uses it on muggles who witness magic to figure out what they saw, and then he replaces those memories with a different scenario.

Write a description of what happens when your character is exhibiting this Special Ability: In order to look into the mind of someone else, to intrude on their privacy like that-- Mihai has to compartmentalize his emotions, as well as his morals. He absolutely needs to force himself to be calm and comfortable with it, otherwise he cannot go through with it-- otherwise he'll come down with a rather debilitating migraine afterwards. The definition of 'too much' varies from day to day, depending on his mental and physical health at the time as well as his stress level.

If he uses it too much, he becomes mentally and emotionally exhausted and overwhelmed. This is usually remedied with some sleep and less taxing activities.
