City & Country of Birth: Birmingham, West Midlands, UK
    Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Muggleborn

Wand: Sycamore, phoenix feather, 12 1/4 inches, inflexible and smooth. Wilhelm has named it Aletheia. Yes, he knows naming his wand is eccentric, but the thought of doing so amused him.

Physical Description: Wilhelm is of average height and sturdy build. He has an ovular face with a broad forehead, a prominent, slightly pointed chin, a straight, somewhat unremarkable nose, a small, thin mouth, and high, wide cheekbones. His deep-set, narrow, gray-blue eyes are crowned by thin, sharply slanted eyebrows. His medium-length mousey blonde hair is wild, untameable, and scruffy, even when Wilhelm can be convinced to try and do something with it, which is not very often.

Wilhelm has very little interest in his physical appearance beyond comfort and basic hygiene. As a result, he has no awareness of or interest in fashion, and his clothes are often plain at best. Before finding out he was a wizard, he usually wore blue jeans and a black or dark blue t-shirt. However, after discovering he was a wizard and visiting Diagon Alley, he has developed a fondness for the robes more traditionally favored by the magical community, and has taken to wearing them whenever he can.

Personality Description: Wilhelm is an extraordinarily strong-willed and determined individual who won't hesitate to defend what he believes in. Those who are less fond of this particular aspect of his personality, however, might instead say that, at times, he can be stubborn as a mule and frustratingly inflexible. This also sometimes gets him in trouble with teachers, as he won't hesitate to disagree with them.

Being particularly kind, Wilhelm will always help those in need, be they friend, stranger, or enemy. The way in which he helps them, however, is not always how they'd want to be helped.

Wilhelm is very picky about the people he chooses to respect, and he wont respect someone he doesn't think deserves it, no matter who they are. Wilhelm is smart enough, however, not to outwardly show his lack of respect towards authority figures unless he thinks doing so is particularly important.

Trying to insult or bully Wilhelm is rather pointless, as he usually takes such things in stride. However, saying or doing something truly hurtful to him or someone he cares about is one of the very few ways to make Wilhelm angry, and Wilhelm can hold a grudge for a very, VERY long time. Luckily, however, he always tries to give people a second chance, and will quickly forgive those who truly regret their actions.

While he isn't exactly a class clown, Wilhelm does have a good sense of humor and he likes a good laugh, so he isn't above the occasional prank. This is particularly true when he's bored or stuck doing something tedious, which he hates above almost anything else.

Those who don't know Wilhelm very well would probably think him to be highly unmotivated or, if they were being less kind, lazy. This isn't entirely untrue, but his laziness is mostly due to a lack of direction and the fact that he doesn't yet know what he wants to do with himself. When Wilhelm finds something he wants, however, he moves towards it with a singleness of purpose that is almost frightening.

Wilhelm is highly observant and very good at figuring out what makes people tick. Unfortunately, he is also somewhat manipulative, and while he usually wants only the best for the people he manipulates, he has a tendency to decide what "the best" is without asking for input from the person in question.

While he does have some natural eccentricities--all (or most) of which he is well aware of--Wilhelm tends to act far more eccentric than he really is. He greatly enjoys watching the reactions people have to his behavior, and he has also found that said reactions can be useful in determining a person's nature.

Wilhelm is rather good at handling money, and he  tends to be rather generous, especially considering that he doesn't have much of it. Paradoxically, perhaps as a result of growing up somewhat poor, he tends to be rather miserly in regards to his own personal spending.

Keenly intelligent and shrewd, Wilhelm has a remarkable capacity for learning. Unfortunately, his grades do not usually reflect this, as he doesn't particularly like schoolwork, especially if he can't see any benefit in completing it.

Independent to a fault, Wilhelm will almost never ask for help, even when doing so would be the best, most sane, or only course of action. He feels uncomfortable getting too close to people (either physically or emotionally) and as such he rarely reveals his emotions or troubles, even to those who are closest to him.

History: When Wilhelm was born on a sunny Saturday to Albert and Emmaline Alexander a little more than a year after their marriage, nothing particularly strange, eventful, or extraordinary happened, much to Wilhelm's chagrin later in life. Both of Wilhelm's parents are rather unremarkable muggles, each coming from equally unremarkable muggle families. Wilhelm has never met either of his paternal grandparents, as his grandfather died of old age less than a year after Wilhelm's birth, and his grandmother followed shortly afterward. Wilhelm and his parents have lived in the same apartment in Birmingham since the day he was born. While not exactly poor, Wilhelm's parents have never had much money, and there have been several times in his life when things were tight financially, though they've always been able to get the things they needed.

From a very young age, Wilhelm demonstrated signs of intelligence, learning to both walk and talk somewhat earlier than most children. Once he entered primary school, he took quite a shine to the written word, and quickly became an avid reader. He also did acceptably well in math and science, though a general distaste for schoolwork (and an almost complete refusal to do homework) prevented him from excelling. In all remaining fields of study, a lack of interest coupled with the aforementioned distaste for schoolwork resulted in utterly abysmal grades.

Several years ago, Wilhelm unfortunately got the attention of his school's bullies when he stopped them from picking on one of the younger students. Since that time, he became one of their regular targets. As a result of this, the few friends Wilhelm had ended up distancing themselves from him, and he hasn't had any particularly close friends since then.

When Wilhelm received his letter to Hogwarts and found out he was a wizard, he was naturally surprised, though maybe a little less so than most muggleborns. While he had not demonstrated any incredible, undeniable feats of magic, he had noticed small things happening around him from time to time. For example, he noticed that his computer and other electronic devices tended to act strangely or stop working when he was feeling particularly emotional, and had learned to keep away from them during these times. Additionally, he had never particularly felt like he belonged when around his peers, though whether this was because of some unconscious awareness of his magic, simple arrogance, or something else entirely, even he isn't sure.

The time between getting his school supplies and attending Hogwarts was one of the longest of Wilhelm's life. His eagerness to begin his magical education was palpable, and he spent almost all of his free time reading his textbooks, seeking to absorb as much information about Hogwarts, the magical community, and magic itself as he could.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: It was a tough choice, and Wilhelm was nearly a hatstall, but he was ultimately chosen for Gryffindor due to his courage and unwavering loyalty to those he cares about.

Writing Sample: Wilhelm walked through the crowds in Diagon Alley, searching for Ollivanders wand shop, both excited and curious about what was to come. From the moment he had discovered he was a wizard and saw on his list of school supplies that he would need a wand, it had been what he was most looking forward to getting. After all, his wand would be both proof that he was a wizard, and the tool with which he would perform his magic.

Wilhelm snapped out of his reverie upon seeing the golden letters over the door of the shop that read: "Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C.". He walked briskly towards the door of the shop, paused for a moment in front of the door, and then opened it and slowly stepped inside. As he did so, he heard a bell tinkle somewhere in the shop, and he only had enough time to give the tiny, dusty shop a cursory glance before an old man with pale, silvery eyes emerged from the depths of the shop.

"Good afternoon," he said with a soft voice. "You're here to buy your first wand, I assume?"

"Yes," said Wilhelm with a quick nod as the old man--whom he assumed was Mr. Ollivander--approached him, pulling a tape measure out of his pocket.

"Which is your wand arm?" Ollivander asked, and for a single moment, Wilhelm was unsure what to answer. Then it occurred to him that this was likely the wizarding equivalent of asking if he was left- or right-handed, and he indicated his right arm.

As Mr. Ollivander began taking measurements, Wilhelm decided to ask what he'd been wondering for awhile now. "So, how exactly do I go about choosing a wand?"

"You don't," Mr. Ollivander replied, shocking Wilhelm slightly. "It is the wand that chooses the wizard, Mr..."

    "Alexander. Wilhelm Alexander."

"Right. Well, as I said, Mr. Alexander, it is the wand that chooses the wizard, though it is not always clear why."

Wilhelm was now more curious than he had been before. Did that mean wands were alive?

"No, not exactly," Mr. Ollivander replied when Wilhelm again asked what was on his mind. He finished taking Wilhelm's measurements and began taking boxes off of shelves. "I would explain more, Mr. Alexander, but I don't believe you'd understand it just yet. Wandlore is a mysterious and complex field of magic, and even those of us who study it don't comprehend it completely."

As Mr. Ollivander finished speaking, he opened one of the boxes, took out the wand within, and offered it to Wilhelm, saying, "Try this. Pear, 11 3/4 inches, unicorn hair, whippy."

Wilhelm took the wand, but he had barely closed his hand around it when Mr. Ollivander took it away and moved on to the next wand. This process repeated itself for quite awhile, and Wilhelm was starting to wonder whether any of the wands were going to be suitable for him. Then, after trying trying a wand of yew and dragon heartstring and having it taken away almost as soon as it touched his fingertips, Mr. Ollivander pulled out a box containing a smooth wand with a dark brown, almost black, handle and light brown shaft.

"How about this? Sycamore and phoenix feather, twelve and a quarter inches, inflexible."

The moment Wilhelm touched the wand, he knew this was the one. He felt within him something indescribable, almost as though he had come home after a long journey, and when he waved the wand in a wide, sweeping motion it left behind a faint trail of silvery light, and Wilhelm momentarily felt the slightest of drafts.

"Ah, wonderful!" said Mr. Ollivander, looking pleased as he took the wand and put it back in its box.

When Wilhelm left the shop a few minutes later having paid for his wand, he couldn't wait to get home. He was dying to examine his wand more closely. He wasn't sure how other people in the magical community viewed their wands, but Wilhelm found his to be a thing of beauty, despite its relatively simple design. Then, of course, there was also the textbooks that he was anxious to start reading, thirsty as he was for more knowledge about magic, and as Wilhelm walked down the street packed with witches and wizards, he couldn't help but feel more excited than ever before about the prospect of attending Hogwarts.

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Wilhelm is an eccentric, intelligent, good-humored, and brave individual who always does what he thinks is right, no matter what the cost. He will protect those he cares about with his life, and though he might be somewhat manipulative at times, he is a loyal friend.
