    Full Character Name: Joy Torret
Character Birthday & Age: August 25, 1960. 49 years old.
City & Country of Birth: Hogsmeade, Great Britain
    Blood Purity: Halfblood
Alma Mater: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Ravenclaw House
Job/Position: Healer-in-Charge of Potion and Plant Poisoning

Wand: Pear, Unicorn Tail Hair, 10 inches, Smooth, Supple. This wand was obtained at the age of 11 from Ollivander's. Upon getting the wand, Ollivander commented that he usually uses golden pear, not pink, and that Joy will grow to be well-loved wherever she goes.

Physical Description: Joy has dark brown hair that goes to her shoulder blades which she always wears in a bun. She had green eyes with a hint of blue in the light. She stands at about 5'5" with a slim feminine body. Her skin isn't very wrinkled and her teeth are straightened, both with the use of magic. Joy wears her Healer uniform at work and often around her house before or after work, but elsewhere can be seen in normal Muggle clothing.

Joy rarely holds herself high other than when trying to take leadership, usually keeping a friendly demeanor. She will often lean or crouch down to be at the same level of who she is talking to if the person is shorter than her to give that person a feeling of equality. She speaks in a sweet tone, never with sarcasm and rarely anger. Joy has a habit of speaking softly to patients in bad condition.

On first glance, Joy wouldn't look like the kind of person who is in charge. She doesn't make herself look taller to feel more important or speak in a serious tone very often. Only when giving out important instructions does she take a more leader-like demeanor.

It is to be noted that Joy always wears a ring on her right ring finger, a silver ring made to look like a vine with a silver leaf on the top. This was made from the first cauldron she made a potion in, and later the first cauldron she blew up, her mother’s.

Personality Description: Joy is very calm and patient. She never rushes things and can hold her temper even when being insulted or attacked. She is trustworthy, willing to keep any secret no matter how bad, but has a habit of giving people too much benefit of the doubt and sometimes trusts untrustworthy people. She is also good at waiting long amounts of time for things to happen, but can also work quickly, one factor that makes her good at potions.

She is very kind and caring. Joy is willing to heal anyone, even her worst enemy, if they need it. She is willing to help anyone in any way that she can, though she will state that she is not good at something if she feels that her doing the task wouldn’t be beneficial. At times Joy might doubt herself a little, but she does her best not to show it, especially if working with others.

Joy has a tendency to do things just in case, even if they are not needed. She will give patients treatments that are not known to be needed just in case of something happening. With poisons nasty things can happen that take place after the initial effects so Joy is always making sure those don’t happen. However, because of this habit, she will often do things like over pack Zoe’s suitcase before she goes off to Hogwarts. But since she applies this habit daily to more important things, Joy can’t really break it.

History: Joy Torret was born in Hogsmeade in 1960. At the time she had no brothers, she was born an only child. Born into a half-blood but surrounded by wizards and witches at all times Joy was raised only knowing mostly wizarding things, though her mother occasionally taught Joy about the Muggle things her parents knew. One of Joy’s favorite things to do when she was little was watch all the students come and go at the beginning and end of every year and also see them come into the village on the weekends.

By age 8 Joy had three little brothers, one two years younger than her, one five years younger than her, and one eight years younger than her. Joy, for the years leading up to Hogwarts, bonded the most with the eldest of the three, though did play with the other two as well. She enjoyed being the big sister greatly.

At age 11 Joy was excited to go to Hogwarts. She found she fit in well with the environment, excelling at school work and being used to being surrounded by all the magic. She was sorted into Ravenclaw, and greatly enjoyed the house. Joy was the best in potions and herbology, the top of her class in both subjects. She often visited her mother, who was librarian at Hogwarts. Two of her brothers came in her later years, also being sorted into Ravenclaw.

In Joy’s fifth year, when career consoling began, Joy already knew that she liked to help others and wanted to be a Healer. She continued only in the required subjects to become a Healer through her 6th and 7th year. Joy ended Hogwarts with all Os, having heavily studied for the five subjects she was in, and graduated Hogwarts in 1978.

After Hogwarts Joy immediately started work as the Healer in Training of the third floor, Potion and Plant Poisoning. She did very well there at the job, good with healing poisons with herbs and potions. After three years she moved up to a regular healer on the third floor. Joy loved her new higher level of work, and began to practice making more and more different kind of potions, some not even for her work, but for other purposes.

In 1990, after being a healer for nine years, Joy met a man in the tea room. He had just recovered from being in the artifact accident floor after one of his enchantments he was trying out went wrong. The two got into a conversation and Joy found that she really liked Edward. The two eventually got into dating, and two years later, marriage.

In 1994, after Edward got his job at Wizenmagot, they decided that they wanted a child. Joy had Zoe in 1995. Quickly Edward and Joy realized they needed someone to take care of Zoe and a Muggle nanny would not work. Joy brought up a house elf, and it was agreed upon on the condition that it was freed. Though Joy initially didn’t think this was a good idea, once Edward finished talking to her about it Joy felt it would be a near crime for her daughter to be raised like that. Joy was the one who picked out Lily, and was happy when she was later freed.

During the time of Voldemort in 1998 Joy faced many problems. Edward left so his part in taking care of the family and the house was gone. Lily had to spend more time with Zoe, and therefore less time doing house chores Joy had no time to do. Even more, Joy was made the Healer-in-Charge of her floor in March of that year. While she liked that she got promoted to Healer-in-Charge, a large honor, it meant she got to spend less time at her home. This was undoubtedly the hardest year.

It became a lot harder on the night of the Battle for Hogwarts, after Joy received an owl from her parents saying they noticed a flurry of protective spells being cast around Hogwarts as well as word that Harry Potter had come and Voldemort would soon as well. She left Zoe with Lily and disapperated to Hogsmeade, with her wand and other supplies. When she got there the battle was already taking place, and Joy took part in protecting Hogwarts as well as healing the wounded. The whole time she was worried she wouldn’t survive. Thankfully Joy was able to, though she came home very shaken.

After Edward came home things slowly got back to normal and Joy enjoyed her new job more. Since then she has done her best to help the healers on her floor make sure patients are treated properly and heal her own patients well.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them: Joy is in charge of healing the serious cases of poison and helping/supervising the other healers and trainees. Joy takes this role very seriously, treating the patients of her own as best as she can and making sure all the healers know what to do.

Joy will often try to talk to trainees or newer healers about what they have done or what they know to try and maximize understanding. If she has short bits of free time she usually will use these to check on patients other healers are attending to, or helping other healers.

Joy also takes it upon herself to end disputes and tries to keep everyone in a good mood. She’ll also try and keep healer-patient relationships running smoothly.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field: Joy has always had a talent for potion-making as well as herbology. She has a strong desire to help others, and because of that loves healing. She is also okay with a wand, best with healing spells, though this is partly because she’s used them for so long. Joy also has a lot of experience, being a trainee for three years, a healer for seventeen, and a Healer-in-Charge for eleven, totaling her time working at St. Mungo’s to thirty-one years. Even with all of her experience and knowledge of healing, Joy still likes to try and learn new or faster and easier ways of healing.

Though Joy isn’t the type to be strict, her leadership skills are still fair. She’ll take time to assess a situation before approaching it, and encourages other to do that as well. Whether it is an argument, a disagreement about a treatment or diagnosis, or just not understanding something Joy is more than happy to step in and try to help.

On her N.E.W.T., Joy passed her five classes necessary to become a healer with all Os.

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Joy is a kind and caring woman who dedicates most all of her time to helping and healing others. With her job as Healer-in-Charge she tries to maintain a both leader but also helping friend role with healers and trainees, as well as a softer and caring personality with patients. On top of all of this, Joy still tries to spent time with her family and be a loving wife and mother. Though she’s a busy person with a lot to do, Joy loves every moment of it and wouldn’t have it any other way.

    Special Ability Request

    Character Name: Joy Torret
    Age: 49

Do any of your other Characters have Special Abilities?: No

    Special Ability: Animagus
What level is this ability at?: Advanced
At what age did your character gain this ability?: 17

How did they learn or hone this ability?: During the summer before Joy’s sixth year, she decided that as she was planning to only take the classes required to become a healer, Joy decided she also wanted a side project as well. She decided to attempt to become an animagus. In her sixth year she acquired many books about animaguses, and studied them. It wasn’t until her seventh year she actually began to try transformation. Joy would do it in an empty classroom or on the weekends in her house in Hogsmeade. At first she could shift slowly and the transformation hurt and made her feel dizzy. By the end of her 7th year Joy could become an animal with little pain and slight dizziness.
Once she left Hogwarts Joy practiced her transformation less, usually trying to transform once every few days for a short amount of time. Once she married Joy transformed a lot less, and always around no one.

It wasn’t until Edward left because of Voldemort Joy began to use this ability seriously again. As Edward didn’t want anyone visiting him in the forest he was hiding out in but Joy still worried about him, she visited him as a doe since he didn’t know about her being an animagus. She spent hours in this form, circling where the protective magical barrier was and sometimes even intercepting owls he sent out during the night. Joy got a lot of practice and became quite a lot better at transforming because of this. She also began to turn into a doe at home, as Zoe loved to ride around the house on her back.

After Joy became Healer-in-Charge of her floor, she decided to see if patients liked her animagus form. A doe was a rather docile animal, and she thought they would like it how she was white. She began to let patients who had more serious poisonings interact with her as a doe. After finding most patients enjoyed that, Joy even began to visit some permanent patients of St. Mungo’s on the fourth floor as a doe. Doing this, Joy also gained more experience.

Describe how the Special Ability influences their life.  What do they use it for?: Joy mainly uses it at St. Mungo’s. She likes to try and calm patients who are in bad conditions and take their minds off of treatments, as well as give them something to do if their treatments will take a while. Joy also visits permanent patients of St. Mungo’s as a doe because she feels it is good for them to have interaction with things that aren’t just other witches and wizards. Joy also sometimes will carry Lily (or still even Zoe for short amounts of time) around the house on her back as a sort of ‘horse-back ride’, as they to enjoy it.

Joy rarely uses this in the actual public, as it would be very strange to see a doe walking around, unless she is near or in a forest or in a place like Hogsmeade where animaguses aren’t found strange. She will also sometimes become a doe in the snow of her own backyard in winter, but this is only because she blends in.

Write a description of what happens when your character is exhibiting this Special Ability: Joy turns into a white white-tailed doe. Her eyes are greener than a normal deer’s and on her front right hoof is a twisting line all the way around, as her ring. She occasionally experiences some dizziness when turning into or out of her animagus form. However, when transforming it usually takes her a few seconds to get used to the sudden absence of seeing red and orange, as well as if she spends a while in the form it take time to get used to seeing them again. She can change in and out of the form pretty easily, but the transformation still takes more than a few seconds.
