(23rd September) Flying Fun (Evelyn) on March 24, 2012, 12:24:16 PM Josh had been thinking about the planned time flying with Evelyn almost since they had decided to meet. He was honest enough with himself to admit that it had quite a bit more to do with Evelyn herself than flying, even if he loved flying. He couldn't help but remember how he had enjoyed talking to Evelyn, and how he had been ( temporarily) entranced when looking at her while they dried off after swimming in the Lake together. Pulling himself together, he walked onto the Quidditch Pitch with his broom and found somewhere to sit while he waited for Evelyn so they could start flying. She had been thinking about spending time with him for the past week. She couldn't wait to fly with him. As she walked into the pitch she saw Josh waiting for her. She walked over to him and said, "Hey Josh!" She couldn't help but notice that he looked really good. She blushed a little as she pushed the thought out of her head for the moment. "got your broom with you?" he asked, if necessary he had a spare broom he could lend Evelyn, but would rather not. He didn't like advertising how rich his family was generally, and mentioning his spare broom? probably counted. regardless, he looked at Evelyn, waiting for her reply, blushing slightly when he thought how good she looked. I usually fly on a school broom," Evelyn said softly. Her parents had said they weren't safe. They also had thought one of her brothers would find it at some point and end up killing themselves or someone else. So because of that she didn't have a broom. "Can we get into the storage cupboard out her?" she asked him. "Any particular reason why you don't have a broom?" Josh asked, curious. Most kids that didn't have a fear of heights had a broom, since they were one of the more reliable ways of traveling. Sure, intercontinental flight was still mostly for the most highly skilled flyers[1] especially if you actually wanted to reach said other continent somewhere close to where you originally planned to, since it was extremely difficult to keep course, and compasses could help only so much. Shaking himself mentally, he thought about Evelyn asking to go to the Broom Shed for a school broom. He'd rather not- those brooms were mostly inherently unsafe. "If you follow me, there is one more option. I have a spare broom. Don't tell anyone, and you can borrow it for today." He whispered, his mouth close to Evelyn's ear. Blushing suddenly when he noticed how close they were, he waited for her reply. 1. it says in Quidditch Through the Ages that brooms historically weren't trusted over distances as long as intercontinental flights, so I assume the brooms tended to fail during the attempt. I doubt most wizards can make the crossing on a broom even today, although it's probably navigation issues mostly ( it's difficult to pinpoint a location over water w/o a GPS, it's impossible out of sight of land with what we see in the books. Over land, you can use landmarks to guide you, at sea, over long distances? no chance, except within sight of the shore) Skip to next post Re: (23rd September) Flying Fun (Evelyn) Reply #5 on April 01, 2012, 05:47:05 PM "I don't have a broom because my parents think they are dangerous," Evelyn said shyly. Her parents didn't really understand much about the magical world so she just let them think what they want. Then she heard Josh say he had an extra broom that she could borrow. "Really? That would be great," Evelyn said as she turned to face him. She realized then how close they were. But she didn't move away for some reason she wasn't able to fathom. "Have you tried telling them that you know how to use a broom safely and your siblings wouldn't be able to make a flying broom work?"[1] Josh said. Then Evelyn said she wanted to use his spare broom, but didn't keep her voice down. "Shh. Keep your voice down, I don't want people hearing. Most people can barely afford one broomstick, if people hear I have a spare, they will think I'm a spoilt brat. Follow me." Josh said, heading for the locker rooms. On reaching his locker, he waited for Evelyn to catch up. 1. although it isn't said in the books, I doubt very much that a muggle can use a broom, or the Dursleys would probably have forced Harry to let Dudley use his. "No one would think you are a spoiled brat by the way. You are too nice for anyone to think that about you," she said to him when she caught up to him by the locker. She wasn't lying to him either. He was a prefect for Merlin's sake. How could anyone think he was anything but nice. "Are you sure I can be in here?" Evelyn asked him. Josh relied to Evelyn's comment. When Evelyn asked if she was allowed in here, Josh snickered. "Evelyn, the only reason us being in here might raise eyebrows is we're alone. It's the changing rooms that are restricted to a single house, and even then, that's only while a game is being played. There's only two sets of changing rooms, after all.[1] Trust me, it's fine." Josh said, then opened his locker, revealing the broom inside. Taking it out, he held it out for Evelyn to take. 1. I assume that girls and boys have separate changing rooms then gather in a third room, since we know that they have to be naked at some point, since they take showers Skip to next post Re: (23rd September) Flying Fun (Evelyn) Reply #9 on April 02, 2012, 05:21:09 PM "I was just checking," Evelyn said as she took the broom from Josh. "Thanks." She then turned to walk out of the locker rooms only stopping to make sure Josh was coming with her. When she got out on the field she got onto the broom and hovered above the ground waiting for Josh. For a moment, he could only stare at her, entranced again. Mounting his broom, he kicked off, moving to a hover next to Evelyn. Smiling, he said " lot better than the old school brooms, isn't it? Want a race?" Josh asked, he didn't expect Evelyn to beat him, but more surprising things had happened in the past. He looks really good today, she thought to herself. "What do you say? Twice around the pitch? Winner gets to choose what the loser has to do," Evelyn said with a little smirk. She was probably going to lose but she always had a chance. Josh said, soaring up into the sky just after he said it, going up as high as the goalposts. "This should be high enough, come on up" he called down to Evelyn. He was mentally thinking about possibilities for what he could ask her to do. He'd probably stick to doing something on the broom, but what? most tricks on a broom would be too simple, and something like the Wronski feint would probably lead to Evelyn in the Hospital Hut and the broom destroyed. Then he hit on an idea, which should be fun for both him and Evelyn, and relatively harmless. Indeed, he'd do it alongside her. She had a slight head start since she had counted but he was really close behind her and would probably catch up real soon. Evelyn focused on flying not really caring about anything else around her. She could feel the wind blowing her hair out around her and she wished she had thought to put it up before they had started flying. Skip to next post Re: (23rd September) Flying Fun (Evelyn) Reply #14 on April 03, 2012, 03:11:00 PM Josh had barely started the count when Evelyn started the race. "Hey! that could be considered cheating you know!" Josh called out jokingly, pushing the broom to accelerate. Josh rapidly accelerated to a safe racing speed, not pushing the broom all-out since it was a fun race, the risk of crashing too great at higher speed. Catching up to Evelyn as they completed the firs5t half-lap, Josh sped ahead, confident he would win. He had seen Evelyn was having problems with her hair, although Josh, looking back, thought she looked great with her hair streaming behind her. Skip to next post
