name:    Connor Alan Todd
d.o.b.:    November 28, 1994 (Sagittarius)
city/country of birth:    Newbridge, Ireland
blood purity:   Halfblood
house & year:    Ravenclaw, 5th Year
wand:       12 ½”, dogwood, unicorn tail hair; pliable, with a bent shaft. An Ollivander.

Physical Description

Tall but gangly, Connor often puts one in the mind of a growing scarecrow: his shoulders—though broad—are bony, and the rest of his limbs all elbows and knees; if it’s not cut, his hair (which he alternately colors between blonde and brown) tends to stand on end like he's been hit by lightning or smacked repeatedly with a pillow. Sometimes he has terrible posture, and stands like he’s being hung out to dry. This does not help that first impression (which he finds both hilarious and a little frustrating) in the least.

Clothing-wise, his attire is usually mismatched. Because money’s tight, much of it tends to show a lot of wrist and ankle, so he makes do with what he has, like rolling up too-short trousers to calves or knees, or cutting off similar sleeves entirely. When something new (or nearly new) comes his way, he likes to mix it in with his old things. Out of school, it’s not uncommon to see the boy sporting a spankin’ new jersey with a pair of shirt and trousers old enough to be his gran. Usually, however, he’s not really as vain as he pretends to be; he’s comfortable with how disheveled he looks or doesn’t look.

He does, however, think he looks suave no matter what he wears.

Connor also has a thing for hats, particularly akubras, beanies, bucket hats, and trilbies. He just likes taking them off as much as he likes wearing them, which is often. He is quite happy to carry one clamped between his teeth.

His wide, sleepy, grayish blue eyes are his favorite feature. On his thin face they seem a little too large, sometimes making him look either lost or woefully solemn; coupled with a vulnerable-looking mouth atop a slightly cleft, pointed chin, it’s easy for him to pass off as someone much younger—or more innocent—than he actually is. And he loves taking advantage of it.

Personality

Despite the somber look he wears just about all the time, Connor Alan Todd is anything but. If anything, he’s worse.

An honest soul with a crooked mind, the boy’s constantly on the lookout for himself; he just takes pains to make sure no one gets trampled along the way, and generally tries to compensate for it... usually. He’s addicted to the thrill of short plays and high stakes—likes to wing situations by the seat of his pants—is almost always calculating the best ways to bend a rule, or how to turn the odds in his favor. He thinks the best way to earn something is the easiest way, which sometimes is also the most dangerous. In his opinion, it’s no fun—or worth much of anything, really—if it isn’t.

He is also kind of a tit. While he’s a bit sensitive himself, Connor can be just as dense about other people’s feelings as he is perceptive—it’s what makes manipulation come so easily to him. He’s very good at pushing all the wrong buttons but doesn’t quite know when to stop; it’s even worse when he doesn’t want to. Short of being the cause of another kid’s tears, he quite likes pissing people off, particularly the more uptight, self-righteous of his yearmates and the few professors who rub him the wrong way. He has a very strong rebellious streak, and when he feels like he’s being oppressed, he gets all contradictory on them and does whatever he thinks will annoy them the most.

...Then again, he likes pissing people off, period. Nothing quite makes his day like seeing a scowl he’s put there, and he tends to find an angry flush more attractive than any flirtatious pink. To the resignation of many, it’s his absolute favorite way of expressing how much he likes a person, just as much as he dislikes them.

Yeah, he’s a real hit with the ladies—especially when he’s really a terrible, incorrigible flirt; threats of bodily harm (and actually carrying them out) don’t deter him at all. When the mood strikes him, he goes a~ll out, the type who would seriously consider dropping his pants if he thought the outcome would be worth it. Usually, though, he settles for a lot of lip-lickin’, hip-wigglin’, brow-wagglin’ action, the kind accompanied by smoky eyes achieved by a sleepy-eyed look. And if a girl explodes in angry, flustered outrage, well... all the more better!

He’s something of a regular at the Healing Hut, if you hadn’t guessed.

As book smarts go, Connor is fairly intelligent—definitely more than his teachers and classmates give him credit for, the ones who don’t find his class clown antics amusing; he just doesn’t mind coming off as the opposite. A far cry from the diligent and studious breed the House of Ravenclaw is known for, he would much rather doze off in a class he finds boring, or act up and make it fun, instead of getting caught up in stuff he doesn’t actually give a fig about. In the meantime, he’s content to just sit there and soak up lessons like a sponge, retaining them later until someone forces him to prove that he’s actually learned anything. In subjects he does like, he takes on a much more active, agreeable role, like offering help without being a total arse about it.

Attitude towards school and other people aside, Connor is actually a good kid... which isn’t to say that he won’t eat that cupcake with your name on it that you left on the table or anything (because he will), but he’ll feel bad if you’re upset and will almost definitely replace it sometime in the future. He looks out for those he cares about—and even those he doesn’t, like most underclassmen—in that infuriating, roundabout way of his. He also has very strong views about debts and favors; he might groan ‘n moan about owing one, but he will always, always try to fulfill a debt with what it’s worth. It’s not as good as an actual sense of right and wrong, but it works for a lot of people, not just him. And as much as he likes being a pest, he’s very talented at cheering up others.

He’s a good kid who’s just bad at being good, really.

History

Connor comes from a large, rambunctious family. Born to one Fergus and Alanna Todd on the 28th of November, he is the eldest of three, and as long as he can remember, he has always been surrounded by family since day one.

As a member of the Donelly-Todd clan, visits from relatives weren’t special occasions, but a weekly expectation; more times often than not, an aunt or uncle would drop in, either by themselves or with their own families. His grandparents—from both sides of the family—drop by frequently, too. Because they have a tradition of sending just about all of their kids to the same elementary school, Connor often brought home a cousin or two himself.

As a result, the Todd residence was often swarming with activity. Mornings were usually hectic, especially when relatives stayed the night, and evenings were a bustling affair; a guy couldn’t reach the sanctity of his bedroom without uttering at least a couple ‘scuse me’s... and then he’d have to go over each and every inch of the room to make sure there weren’t any cousins hiding around somewhere. Now that he doesn’t have to deal with that anymore, he looks back on these times fondly.

Both his parents are Halfbloods. His father, Fergus, is an employee at the Owl Post office. He’s a nice, bookish man, with a prominent nose, an awkward smile, and slightly sunken eyes; Connor gets his looks from him and respects his father’s views about hard work, even if he disagrees with them. His mother, Alanna, is a Cursebreaker; she’s a soft-spoken lady who gets on with everybody, even her goblin superiors. Neither is quite sure where their son got his unholy amount of charm, and both like to joke that the other’s side of the family is to blame.

His siblings are Caitlinn and Barry. Caitlinn, who’s twelve, is a second year Gryffindor who sometimes finds him exasperating, but loves him all the same. Their brother Barry is ten and looks up to Connor; he will attend Hogwarts in the fall.

So far, aside from the countless detentions and reprimands he’s gotten over the years, Connor’s time at Hogwarts has been smooth sailing. His grades are slightly above average only because he doesn’t try harder, and though he annoys a lot of people, he’s still a popular kid. And knowing when to keep his nose clean and his arse out of trouble helps a lot, too—‘cause some of those prefects? Phwoar.

Why was your character chosen for this house?

No one’s really sure why Connor was Sorted into Ravenclaw anymore; he seems to lack the competitive drive for academic success his peers are known for, and he’s not really known for his wisdom, ifyougetwhatImean. Still, the boy’s admittedly brilliant in things he is interested in, like Wizarding Chess and Gobstones, and no one can deny that the kid’s got wit, either; he just doesn’t use it much. Otherwise, he kind of makes a shoddy Ravenclaw, to be honest, and he’d be the first to (cheerfully) admit it.

Short summary of character.

All in all, Connor’s a playful, free-spirited kid who likes to poke fun at everything and everyone including himself. He likes taking naps and drawing hilariously fugly pictures caricatures of his housemates, as well as provoking others and being an abominable flirt. He’s kind of a butthead about it, to be honest, but selfish tendencies aside he’s a good kid at heart and a good friend to have.
