[Sept 22] Ring Them Bells for the Chosen Few, Who Would Judge the Many (PM) on March 14, 2012, 12:10:14 AM Jacoba watched as the shorter brunette stepped through Reducto's door and started scanning the room. The Auror wasn't even remotely a regular customer. In the past, she'd only come in when she had the need to casually gather information from someone and, as far as Jacoba understood, she'd been the only one Raynor had questioned. The shop's usual denizens were a motley, somewhat rebellious crew - the type that might catch the attention of some new-hire, fresh out of the Academy (or whatever the equivalent was) hot shot who was looking to gain points with an easy drug arrest. They weren't the type to warrant the attention of the Auror office's head witch. That Raynor's most recent visit came all of one week after Jacoba's return couldn't have been a coincidence. Jacoba had been half-expecting, half-dreading a visit from someone at the Ministry once rumor of her return spread that far. She'd been in no hurry to divulge the primary reason for her return to anyone so most coming by the shop assumed The Muggle had simply returned. Jacoba had expected Roh to be the first to come chide her for her 'immature disregard for personal safety.' That it was Raynor, rather than Roh, who stepped through the door could mean any number of things: Roh had refused to come, Raynor had decided it wasn't in anyone's best interest to send Roh or, once again, curiosity had gotten the best of Raynor. After giving her coworkers the universal 'I'm off on an emergency break' gesture, Jacoba moved between the shelves towards the woman. "I assume you're here to see me?" Jacoba offered, preemptively. Watch it be just her luck that today, for once, Raynor was actually shopping for a gift. For herself or someone else. "I'm on break and can take as long as I need. If it's better we speak in private, we can go upstairs." The energy in the store changed. And collectively, the various shoppers seemed to decide they could not find what they were looking for and calmly began moving towards the door. Tamis Raynor was either very astute at feinting ignorance or she did not realize the effect of her entrance to Reducto Records. Still in Auror Red, she took in the shelves and displays before her grey eyes rested on the darker, taller woman making right for her. “That is a very presumptuous assumption,” the petite woman allowed, her eyes for once giving away as little as her expression about her intentions. Though the way one corner of her mouth quirk, just a fraction, was far more revealing. “Another philosophical debate on the Three Owl Standard is always entertaining[1].”There had been very little she had know about Jacoba Schlegweit, during that first encounter. Just what the Prophet offered, Roh complained about[2] (and office rumors about the young lady and Eleor, which composed the same catagory), and a certain letter[3]. Raynor’s professional curiosity had extended to whether or not the then-presumed muggle’s presence was going to give her one big, unnecessary terrorist headache. It nearly had.But Jacoba had also enticed the petite woman’s inquisitive Ravenclaw nature as well. She had never been able to discuss the wizard-muggle dynamic with a muggle before. The experience had stuck with the Auror. Even at this moment she was not sure what had drawn her back to this record shop – business or personal relations. It certainly was not the merchandise selection.“I do not believe more private arrangements will be necessary,” she countered the offer -- just as the last patron of the shop shuffled out the shop with a small, announcing “jing” of the door. Tamis Raynor’s expression had yet to alter but somehow one could get the impression that she was enjoying herself. Or, at least, mischievously amused. The Head Auror was not in a somber mood and while she was maintaining her standard aloof distance she was treating the young woman – a rather unusual case – as amiably as one could expect. It meant she was not here for something the German had done wrong. Raynor’s eyes still surveyed the perimeter of the room, moving to the store front and peering through the window, tilting her head to peer down one side of the street and then the other. “No rocks, lately? Flattering enchanted photographs of your likeness[4]?” Coincidence most certainly. 1. [March 03] A Muggle's Field Guide to Cupcakes 2. Neighborhood Watch 3. [Februrary 17] Requesting a Meeting 4. It helped her avoid crossing that faint but vital line between annoying and angering her father. The very subtle hints of amusement in the Auror's expression weren't lost on the younger woman. Perhaps it wasn't wise to be anything more than official and straightforward with the woman but Jacoba couldn't help but grin, slightly. "It's only a presumptuous assumption if it's incorrect. Otherwise, it's simply an astute observation." Jacoba cast a glance around at the store's now nearly vacant interior. "Given your not chasing anyone out the door, my odds of being observant rather than presumptive are increasing considerably." A touch of color rose in Jacoba's cheeks and she ducked her head, slightly, in a gesture that wavered between acknowledgement and apology. She did have to bring up their previous conversation. Raynor apologized at the time for spending the woman's valuable time on Jacoba's ... well, theories. Though Jacoba knew it wasn't really needed, she couldn't ignore the urge to apologize, again. "Really, had I known who you were at the time, I would have ... well, been more succinct. At least. Unless, you're serious?" Again, Jacoba glanced around the shop. It did seem more private accommodations were no longer necessary. However, it was as of yet unclear whether this visit was likely to be long or involved enough to warrant seating arrangements. "No. Aside from a few random glares and a couple fleeting 'what are you doing back's, it's been relatively quiet. I'm actually ... I'm living here, now. So, maybe it has just gotten routine enough that they've given up." Jacoba was trying to be optimistic about the whole situation. But, so few people got it. So few people really understood why she was here and what had brought her back. Adon certainly hadn't understood her motivations, though he'd convinced himself he did. Even, she suspected, Sasha didn't quite get it. "From what I can tell, the people who were apathetic before are even more apathetic now. So, I think rumors are spreading a bit slower." Publicizing her ... recent developments ... would help slow the rumors further. But, Jacoba ... she wasn't ready for that. She'd focused so much on avoiding being defined by her magic (or lack there of) status before. That hadn't changed. Especially since she really had no way to prove it to the casual passer by.
