So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Mum,

I have to ask, since I'm going out of town to meet a rare book dealer, for my project. Can you watch the babies for a few days? Just from Friday night till Sunday night when I get back. I'll bring them and their food over when I come for dinner Friday, alright?

Love, Abby

Abby,
It's all well and good, fish aren't exactly high maintenance creatures, I just wonder what made you give them such odd names? Why not Bubbles and Coral or something traditional? Please pick up a bottle of wine on your way over, something that will go with the roast.

Mum,

I told you, they are very traditional names. There were four, so Godric, Rowena, Salazar, and Helga just seemed to fit. I know I don't know what genders they really are, but I'm sure they don't care either way. Besides, they seem to like their names. I'd swear they understand every word I say, and swim over when I'm talking to them. Oh, I found a nice bottle of red, in that little store near the florist. I'll be there at seven sharp :D

Love, Abby

Abby,
Yes, I know their names are important to you, but really the way you dote on them can't be healthy. Oh, never mind, we've gone over that. I don't mind, do as you like, but I think once you start having real children, your interest in fish will fall by the wayside. They certainly are getting a bit big, even for piranhas, aren't they? What kind of food have you been feeding them?

Love, Mum

P.S. I'm sure whatever you bring will be fine, dear.

Mum,

Honestly, I think you read to much into my pets. It's not like they're a substitute for anything. I get out, I talk to people, I date once in awhile. I'm not putting off having children because you had a bad experience and it's affected my ability to connect no matter what that stupid women's counselor said at that seminar. Don't worry, I'm fine, I'm normal, I'm happy. :D

And they eat normal fish food from the pet store. They are a bit large, but they seem healthy, and are very active, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Speaking of attachment to pets, you remember that nice lady, Dahlia from down the hall? It seems another one of her cats has gone missing. Odd. I feel bad for her, but she really should keep a closer watch on them. Second one in two months.

Love you mum!
Abby

Mum,

You didn't by chance leave the door open the other day, did you? When you left Sunday afternoon?
I only ask because when I went to empty the bin, the door was open a crack. Everything all right otherwise, how is work?

Love, Abby

Abby,

Honestly, who is the parent here? You think I'd know by now how to lock a door behind me. Have you been magicking up the locks like you did in the bathroom? I seem to remember a certain incident where a certain young lady was locked in for hours until I arrived with the chainsaw.  Work is fine, but back on topic: if it's not something you did, for heaven's sakes get your locks changed. You don't want to wake up burgled, like on one of those true crimes shows.

Love, Your mum
