[Sept 27] Under a Moon [Olivia, PM]

Prefect Patrol
11:00 pm and later

Any potential mischief makers, midnight wanderers, students out of bed? Send a
PM and we will determine how to include you. You will be caught and written up!

Ligeia was a very odd case when it came to the prefect night patrols. Given the late hour many of her compatriots had been dog tired, barely functioning the next morning. Then there was the anomaly that was Ligeia. As a partner grew more tired, she grew more lively. Then, after the short amounts of sleep when everybody was groaning for coffee, Ligeia looked well slept and refreshed. Whatever her mediation methods, she never seemed to tire.

But then Ligeia had always been a child of the night. The interest had developed naturally, for when she was younger her hours during the day were so limited because of her albinism, that the lightless night was attractive. Many a night she would lie awake, listening to the sounds of the house settling to sleep, then crept about when she had the whole empty house just for herself. She would wander or engage in a minimal activity, recharged by her energy reserves.

This trend continued at Hogwarts, before she ever became a prefect. Several nights a month Ligeia would be awake in the common room, reading by wand tip or her needlework by candlelight, appreciating the moon out the window, or just mediating on some notion or other.

So she enjoyed tonight where she walked the empty halls, the only sounds from her or Olivia Foley that accompanied her on this patrol. Ligeia enthused about her delights. "I just love Hogwarts at night. There is something more grand about its mystique, when the castle is at rest and the shadows fall."

Huh? Ollie looked forward as her brow furrowed a little confused. Castle at rest? What did she mean when the shadows fell? That was a little weird. Okay no, she was just being nice talking about the quiet castle. Yes nothing weird. Just interesting phrasing. Ollie brushed her hair behind her ear and looked over at Ligeia. "Yes. When it is quiet  itis nice." She nodded her head. Since she had come back to Hogwart the allure of the corridors had faded and she was just back into the normal feelings about the corridors. Initially this year it was also exciting as if it was first year all over again, but with a slightly different feeling. Ollie had been so excited to be back at Hogwarts, but that feeling had oddly faded and a little quicker than she had expected. She was already feeling the pressure of the class and professors, not to mention being named prefect which was an utter surprise. Though admittedly she was very honoured and it made her feel included in the school in a different way, and she needed that right now. Especially after the disaster that was the SAWS meetings. Maybe she shouldn't attend those meetings.

"Though the corridors and the castle itself have already lost its exciting allure." Ollie said with a shrug. She scratched her head and looked over at the partner for the evening. Rubbing the back of her neck she looked back at the corridor space in front of her listening out for some sounds indicating people out of  bed or up to no good. Ollie was going to be tired in the morning that was for sure. Then again Ollie loved to lounge in bed anyway and she could sleep away an entire day if she was allowed (but she was never allowed).

"Perhaps, we should find corridors that are not so familiar to the point of dullness." Ligeia pointed to a long hanging skinny tapestry. She had been quickly expanding her knowledge of the castle's secret passageways between floors. "That covers a hidden spiral stair that opens behind the line of suits or armors that lead up the hall to the Transfiguration classroom. It's always worth a check in case anyone is hiding out of sight."

"But I have always loved the night." Ligeia's smile was so characteristic: eager, lofty, mysterious and a slight projection of a haunted quality. "The dark is comforting, especially to someone like me. For many years before I began prepping for school, I would wake to have the sunset be my sunrise. Enveloping with its gentle silence...but then there were always the crickets, the owls at hunt, the susurrus of the nocturnal. An easy time for solitude."

However much of this was getting through to Olivia. What was comforting to one was not always so to another. The Hufflepuff prefect had been rather tense since school began. For as much as Ligeia had seen her in group settings, Olivia would eventually pull herself away, even from her closest friends.

Ligeia peeked behind the tapestry to the secret passage. "That's a subtle irony, from the two of us. I much prefer the night, whereas for you...one night a month, in particular."
