(20th September) In the Library on Weekend? (Evelyn) on March 08, 2012, 04:47:35 PM Josh was in the Library, reading a Transfiguration Journal[1] to see what new discoveries had been made. Most of the discoveries were theoretical, but there was the occasional useful spell discovered. Though some of them were ridiculous in the extreme. what had the dumbass who had created a spell to transfigure someones' hair into a minature pool made of hair? pool as in filled with water, also created by the trasnfiguration. Be a talking point, I suppose Josh thought, snickering to himself. 1. As in the kind of Journal referenced in Dumbledore's biography. Yes, a typical student might not read them, but if Dumbledore contributed to one, it's likely he reads one. Skip to next post Re: (20th September) In the Library on Weekend? (Evelyn) Reply #1 on March 08, 2012, 07:17:16 PM Evelyn was wandering around the library looking for something to read over the weekend. The most interesting thing she had found so far was a large book on old defensive spells that hadn't been used in years. As she turned the corner of one of the shelves she saw someone sitting at a table reading a Transfiguration Journal. I didn't know anyone else read those, she thought to herself. Not knowing who was reading it she cautiously approached the person and hoped that it wasn't a Slytherin. "I thought I was the only person that read those things," she said quietly and apprehensively to the person behind the journal. Skip to next post Re: (20th September) In the Library on Weekend? He hadn't been paying much attention to his surroundings, and so hadn't noticed the girl approach. Hearing her question, he chuckled quietly. "We're probably about the only two, not many students do read any of the academic Journals. They're hard to get hold of and most students don't care. It's useful primarily for the theory, which most students don't care about. Fewer still can get the latest editions, like this one." Josh said, aware that the Ravenclaw likely knew most of this. It is just a surprise to see someone else reading one for a change," she said softly as she sat down across from him. She put her bag down on the floor and crossed her leges under the table. This isn't too bad, Evelyn thought to herself. He wasn't a Slytherin which was an very good thing. Instead he was a Gryffindor which also happened to be a good thing. "I'm Evelyn by the way. Evelyn Larken," she said as she stuck her hand out for him to shake. Skip to next post Re: (20th September) In the Library on Weekend? (Evelyn) Reply #4 on March 11, 2012, 07:04:52 PM "Sadly true." Josh commented at it being a surprise to see someone reading a Journal. "Did you see the paper about the Pool transfiguration? I thought I was going to die laughing after the first sentence. Who would want to transfigure their hair into a miniature swimming pool?" Josh said, snickering. Then he heard Evelyn introduce herself. "Joshua Harcroft, call me Josh, everyone does. You're in my year, aren't you? 6th." Josh said, indicating the year he thought Evelyn was in, shaking her hand, Skip to next post Re: (20th September) In the Library on Weekend? Then she remembered what Josh had been asking before introducing himself. "Yeah I did read the one about the Pool. It was ridiculous! Only a complete nutter would want their hair to be a swimming pool," she said giggling. "So do you usually read the journals in the library or is that just today?" Evelyn asked with a smile. Judging by the comments by whoever peer-reviewed it, they agree too. An interesting use of magic, but ultimately not of conceivable use. Anyway, I usually read the journals anywhere i can find peace and quiet. Since it's my own copy, not a copy from the library, I can read it anywhere. You looking for anything in particular, anyway?" Josh asked, wondering if Evelyn needed his help picking out a book. she's cute he thought, but put the thought out of his mind for now. I was just trying to find something to read over this weekend but nothing has really caught my eye yet," Evelyn sighed. She usually was able to find something right away but for some reason today was different. Her mind was just spaced out and nothing seemed interesting to her. "I really don't have anything else to do today so I came here to look for a book. Which as you can see isn't working out very well for me," she said and then laughed. Reading a book over the weekend sounded like Evelyn was looking for a fiction book, which would explain her difficulty finding a suitable book, since the Hogwarts Library didn't stock fiction books. On the other hand, some of the History books could be extremely interesting, so she might want to read one of those. "Yeah, I can see it's not working out very well, than can happen sometimes. Still, I should be able to find you an interesting book. the Librarian could probably help as well if I can't." Josh said, hoping he could help her. The library doesn't have any fiction books," Evelyn said. It seemed like Josh was trying to help her find something to read. But she had realized a little bit ago that she hadn't come to the library to find a book. "I guess I don't need a book to read really. I was just bored and decided to come in here," she said as she grabbed her stuff and started to stand up. "It was nice meeting you Josh maybe I will see you around some time." She stood up slowly hoping that he would tell her to stay or ask her to go somewhere with him. Skip to next post Re: (20th September) In the Library on Weekend? Josh asked, he didn't want Evelyn to go yet, since he was enjoying talking to her. While he had a fair number of friends, most of his friends were more social than studious. it was nice sometimes to talk to someone who was on his level intellectually. It wasn't often that she was invited places by any one. Especially by a boy. "The lake sounds like a good place to go," she replied to his question. She was smiling a bit now. If they went to the Quidditch Pitch Josh was hoping they would be able to do some flying while they talked, if it was the lake, then they would likely just talk. Josh was kind of hoping to fly, though both options were attractive. Skip to next post Re: (20th September) In the Library on Weekend? "It would be nice to go swimming before the weather gets to cold. But I would have to put my stuff in the dormitories and grab my suit if that's what we do," she said thoughtfully as she started walking towards the library doors. Josh asked, he would have commented on how thye could Transfigure their robes into swimming clothes, but he already knew the reason why not. they would still be wet after being transfigured back, and while Josh didn't care if he had wet clothes, he imagined Evelyn would. Even with a drying spell, things would be uncomfortable at best. Skip to next post
