[Sept. 19th] Club Day: Gryffindor Quidditch [Gryffies]

Club day. The Great Hall was teeming with waves of first and second years who shifted from table to table with glamoured eyes, while older students waded through them like ships in a fickle ocean. Raine Almasy had arrived with most to set up the Gryffindor Quidditch stall: a long table dressed in a striped tablecloth of red and gold. Above it, a wooden sign floated with the words "Gryffindor Quidditch Team" scribbled clearly. A glittering snitch had been painted next to the words; it seemed to move and flutter in its place.

This was not exactly how the redhead Gryffindor had wanted to spend her supposedly free Saturday but she was Captain of the team now and that position came with responsibilities. Responsibilities that one knew better than to shrug off. A sign-up sheet had been left in their common room throughout the week to allow her housemates the time and opportunity to mull over their decisions to join. Today, that same sheet was placed on the table-- accompanied by several quills and a tall stack of photographs from their games in the years before. She'd left the pictures out after flipping through them to pass the time.

Raine looked the part of Captain, wearing her red quidditch robes over black attire. She had climbed up onto the other side of the table a while ago and was now sitting on the ledge, legs folded up underneath her. Blue eyes scanned the crowds dully, keeping a look-out for some of the Gryffies who had already signed up to be on the team... it wasn't much, she thought, but they were the House of the bold! And although she was characteristically pragmatic, Raine felt that there was nothing they couldn't do when their minds were set to it.

"Hi Raine" Josh said, walking up to the Gryffidnor Quiddithc Team table, dressedin his Quidditch robes. "Congratulations n making Captain" he added, smiling. He had been slightly irritated on hearing the news of Raine's appointment, since he had expected to be appointed captain himself, but that had quickly faded once he realized he didn't really have time, considering he was a Tetrawizard Champion. Hopefully Raine would make a good Captain. "Think we'll find someone who'll be able to permanently fill the other Beater spot? It's seemed at times like I only had to blink before there was a new Beater."Josh said, his tone indicating he was half-joking. The turnover rate really had been horrible last year.

Quidditch. It wasn't one of Tynan's goals in life, really. Not that he knew what those were quite yet - but Quidditch wasn't one of the, not yet. That said, it was still one of the things he wanted to do, desperately. Blair had ordered him to get more involved in school activities, possibly as a mean joke. And so here he was on club day, looking at the clubs with the air of someone who thought they were all crazy. Muggle Appreciation? Art? Foreign Languages? Games? None of them seemed his sort of place, or were run by people he couldn't help but punch every now and then. That was probably not considered a good thing.

This was why he ended up bee-lining to the Gryffindor Quidditch booth. He didn't say anything to the two there already - though he knew they were both Prefects. Prefects, in Tynan's life, were trouble. They tended to get upset about the silliest things, like him throwing Eirene in the mud or playing his fiddle at 3am.

Still, it was polite to acknowledge them, and so he gave both a curt nod and looked at the signup list. He started reading it with his lips moving silently, as was his habit. Beater had an open slot, it looked like, and as he reached for the quill he paused and looked at Raine with all the belligerent caution he was able - which was a lot.

"Ye lettin' second years on the team?" he asked, his tone indicating he definitely didn't want to hear "no" as an answer.

Admittedly, Raine was unclear as to why Harcroft had come dressed in his Quidditch robes today, but she supposed that it made their table appear all the more congruous. One might accuse them of having expressed a little too much team spirit today, with such an abundance of house colours gathered in one spot.

"Hello," she had greeted the other prefect when he approached. A familiar face for their team... many of the older players had graduated and they were looking at a mixed bag of new teammates this year. "I don't see why not," Raine replied to his remark-- which she didn't quite catch, considering that she'd spent most of her time the previous year playing second-string Keeper and didn't pay much attention to recruitment.

"There is always some Gryffie who wants to swing a bat at a deranged bludger," she was saying when she noticed MacFusty heading towards them. He was as cordial as one would expect from a younger student she'd not had much of a chance to speak with. The question, on the other hand, was asked in a much less civil voice and Raine raised a fiery eyebrow as she met him in the eye.

"Only the ones who can deal with it."  Her gaze shifted to the scar on his face. Did the boy even have depth perception? Merlin help them. But if there was one thing she could be sure of, it was that a little adversity was good for people. She wouldn't know until they got onto the pitch but the second year was determined and that was half of the fight, wasn't it?

Raine exchanged glances with Josh before looking back to Tynan. "Go ahead and sign yourself up. I just hope you see out of your working eye better than most of us do with both."

Kirby sat at her orchestra and choir club booth as she watched the day begin to die down. She fancied of flying through the air and trees with the warm summers breeze raging past her and through her perfect blonde golden hair. She sighed. She had far to much going on with upcoming newt exams and classes and not forgetting one of the schools most well known clubs to run so she knew she couldn't do anything else. Till she spotted it the gryffindor quidditch booth. Sign up? She wondered. She had dreamed of playing professionally for many years and she knew if she got on the team she would have good experience to help behind her. She stood up from behind her desk and slowly walked over towards the familiar friendly face of her fellow sixth year Raine. "Hey Raine any room for a seeker?" she asked curiously.

It was good that their table was attracting more students; Raine was afraid, as she was sure many Captains in the past had been, that they were not going to form a complete team this year. She was still fairly certain that there would be a limited set of second string players, even if the main positions were played.

The prefect glanced away from who she assumed would be their new, one-eyed Beater-- in time to see Gracean appear infront of the booth. There was, in her opinion, an over-abundance of cheery folk in the house of Gryffindor. Positive and friendly and sweet and other popular forms of irritation. Raine's gaze dropped down to her housemate's feet and then shot back up to her face in appraising fashion as she approached. Fortunately for them, disposition did not speak for skill.

"Hi..." she replied with a fleeting and polite smile. "All positions are open for the time being. Put down your name if you want, we can sort out details at the first practice session." The redhead plucked one of the quills up from the table and handed it to Gracean nonchalantly. They would have to see what would transpire when everyone was finally on a broom. "You can sign up for more than on position," she added while giving both Tynan and her classmate a pointed look: "Insurance."
