Personality Description: Franz is about as stereotypical as a Durmstrang student can get. He is cold and cruel. He values power above all else and despises weakness. Franz takes great pride that he is in the top tier of the Durmstrang students and often he enjoys exerting his power upon the Dregs (and even sometimes the Zurfrieden) by means of hexing and jinxing them. Franz is very much the bully.

If it weren't for the fact that he is the first pureblood of the family, Franz would likely be a Purist. As it stands, his dislike towards muggles doesn't run deep enough for him to be considered much more than a Traditionalist; although he is admittedly an extreme case. His view is that muggleborns should keep their 'muggle filth' out of Wizarding society. The only exception he makes to this view is certain articles of clothing. However, Franz generally keeps his views to himself, knowing that it is not a widely accepted one.

All this aside, Franz can be quite pleasant. Especially if you manage to prove to him that you aren't completely worthless. To those he actually likes he can be a fairly good friend, helping them with their problems, even ignoring the fact that he considers them weak because of it.

History: Franz is the oldest child and the first pureblood of a rather affluent family. As such, his family always treated him and his younger sister, when she was born, very well. From a young age he displayed great magical power, often tormenting the pet German Shepherd. When he was old enough to walk, his family began teaching him how to ride horses as well. By the time he was fifteen his father had bought him a purebred Hanoverian.

Growing up Franz was always fairly close to his younger sister, Sophia. He was always protective of her, even when she started school. Sophia however, never showed quite the same ambition or drive that Franz did and was placed into the Zufreiden when she arrived at the school. This led to a rather painful falling out between her and Franz who saw her as wasting a gift and choosing to be weak. In the last few years the siblings have barely spoken.

Upon his first year he easily was ranked as a top student and placed within the Oberteils. As such Franz learned an appreciation for power due to the fact that he constantly was at risk of losing his position. Secretly he backstabbed many students who he considered threats, often orchestrating events that would make them lose face within their tanks.

However, as he became older and his position became more secure, Franz backstabbed less and less. In the most recent years he has instead been vocal about his views on ranks within the Oberteils, wishing to expel those who appear weak.

Schooling was always easy for him. Franz has always done well in his classes, though he prefers the study of Spellwork and Tangibles above all others, due to influence from his family. As such, Franz is a capable duelist along with a very skilled Occulmens. Within his teaching of Spellworks Franz became particularly skilled in dueling, particularly hexes. He does however have an aptitude for potion-making and Alchemy. From the first chance available he began learning Occulmeny, seeing the skill as particularly useful.

When the tournament was announced, Franz was eager to compete. Finally a chance to practice his skills and crush the other schools. He plans to show the wizarding world that Durmstrang is the best and not without due cause.

Why Was The Student Allowed/Permitted To Attend The Tournament?:  Franz was selected to attend the tournament due to the fact that he has been an Oberteil since he first arrived at Durmstrang. Like all other Oberteils he is a very capable wizard and is expected to do extremely well against the other schools.

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Franz is the first pureblood born to a fairly rich family. He is an extremely capable wizard, excelling at dueling and occulmency. As a person he despises weakness and prizes power above everything else.

Special Ability: Occlumency/Legilimency
What level is this ability at?: Intermediate
At what age did your character gain this ability?: 13 (3rd year)
How did they learn or hone this ability?: Upon entering his third year Franz began taking spellworks as part of his core classes. Where other students saw interest in turning into an animal as an Animagus, Franz had a desire to shield his thoughts from others, along with wanting to control and dominate others. As such Franz has devoted much of his time to to his study.

Franz would consider himself advanced in Occlumency as he can practice it often, but only a beginner Legilimens. To him, control over his own mind is more valuable to control over anothers.
Describe how the Special Ability influences their life.  What do they use it for?: Occlumency has had a rather strong influence on his life, whether Franz realizes it or not. Franz has reached a point where he keeps his thoughts shielded at almost all times; it's almost natural for him now. Legilimency, on the other hand, is used but only rarely. Often times he uses it only when he needs to. The invasion of ones mind is not something Franz has become completely comfortable with.
Write a description of what happens when your character is exhibiting this Special Ability: Originally, Occlumency was severely draining on the mind of Franz, often leaving him mentally and physically drained. However, as he as grown more proficient with the ability, it has become significantly less so. The only time this differs is when a powerful legilimens attempts to penetrate his mind.

Legilimency, on the other hand, is somewhat the opposite. It can be very taxing on Franz, depending on how strong the mind he is attempting to breach is. Afterwards he is left drained and needs time to recover before another attempt.
