THE HUFFLEPUFF QUIDDITCH TEAM 2009-2010

Tryouts will be held on September 27th, 2009. Bring your own broom and gear accordingly, and address yourself clearly along with your position. Year does not matter, but it would be easier to identify you. I will be testing to see your experience and skill in whatever position you will be trying out for, and I will remain completely unbiased, who you are will not matter to me. So don't expect it to.

I'll expect you to obey all school rules. Dress respectably and don't speak when someone else is speaking. I will not accept disrespect and I will not allow a member of the team to have the audacity to pretend they're the best. Remain humble, stay quiet, and kick ass. I expect you to listen to me and not question my authority, just as you would with Madame Hooch. I expect you to voice your opinions to me, work with me, and help me make our team the best. Expect practices to be hard work, but you're Hufflepuffs, and you're supposed to be hard working, so deal with it.
This was the last thing Razzy wanted to do. He was assuming he could just leave a sheet out and leave, just simply counting on people to sign up and not destroy his booth, though he actually didn't really care. Razzy would have preferred to simply call for tryouts and let anyone show up for it. It was simple and clean and Razzy wouldn't have to sit around in a dumb booth, waiting for people to approach him. Considering he was a Hufflepuff, and Hufflepuffs generally didn't have high confidence, he really wasn't expecting them to simply waltz up to him. Razzy had required a reputation of being aggressive and unfriendly. Especially because he was a very protective boyfriend whenever Erin was around. Razzy, of course, never meant for this to happen. He didn't care either way, but he honestly didn't mean to come off as irrationally protective. Razzy just didn't function well as a boyfriend... Which was why he was alone, yet again. He didn't like thinking about Erin anymore, but thoughts still popped into his head. It really didn't help that Erin was the Slytherin captain this year. Razzy wasn't sure if he wanted to kick his ass or avoid playing against him. But, in the end, it was truly inevitable.

With the mindset of wishing to avoid Erin, Razzy had waited for the fair haired boy to pick a spot before Razzy picked the spot farthest away from him. He also considered setting up a booth right next to him, but... He honestly didn't have the heart for it. He wanted to pretend he was completely over Erin and he didn't want him to have the pleasure of being jerked around by Razzy Chancelier. That could make Erin think Razzy still liked him, after all, and he didn't want that. He was able to keep up this facade rather well, as always, although it honestly hurt him to even look at Erin. Even if it did send sharp pangs of angst and regret straight through his chest, Razzy couldn't help but glance over at the Slytherin on occasion. He was a horrible masochist.

Razzy realized that, perhaps, he should have worn his Quidditch gear, but it was too late to change. Instead, he pulled on his cloak and dealt with it. He laid out the papers, neatly, and made sure they remained crisp and clean. He had handouts for what was expected of his teammates, including what he expected during tryouts. Razzy never realized how strict and professional he could be until he was done writing out the handout. He expected a lot out of his members, and he expected them to obey all of his rules. And Razzy may have formed quite a bit of rules. Mostly, he wanted his members to listen and respect each other. And he wanted them to remain focused. That was a bit hypocritical coming from him, considering he was distracting himself with his ex's profound seeker skills when he was blindsided by a bludger during the last game. Razzy regretted being so dumb, and he still believed he could have helped Hufflepuff win if he simply stayed in the game. The arm didn't even hurt that badly... Well, it did, but... He could have ignored it. Razzy was the master at pretending things didn't bother him. But it was the first time he had ever broken a bone. And he had to sit there in the stands until a few boys a year above him helped him out. But he wasn't bitter about that, no. He was simply bitter about losing to Slytherin. Even if Erin was intimate with him that night... He didn't care anymore.

The sign above him was in his own, neat scrawling, "Join the Hufflepuff Quidditch team." Written in golden letters against black paper. He kicked his feet up, onto the counter, and leaned back in his chair. Long fingers played with his dark mane and he watched, passively, as people walked by. He didn't care whether or not people wanted to be on the team. He only had the signup sheet out because Hooch ordered the captains to. He knew better than to disobey his superiors, considering he was now in an authority position. He was even managing his grades fairly well, and he was in an impressive amount of classes (for him, at least). Razzy enjoyed being captain, even if he had yet to do anything with that title yet. He had decided he would have signups, but he would allow anyone to show up to tryouts. He believed this sounded more fair and he enjoyed compromise.

Figaro sauntered by the Hufflepuff table and stopped short, just having finished up a conversation with a friend.  "Yea, one sec.  Gotta sign up for Quidditch."

He leaned over to look at the stuff on the table, thumbing a page off-center.  Then he looked over at Razzy Chancelier, his housemate for five years now and gave him a cold smile.

"Razzelaud.  You're back."

Considering Figaro and Erin Harper were not friendly, Figaro wasn't never quite sure how to deal with Razzy.  Strange, French, fancy Razzy.  No open hostilities of course, just... a distant sort of truce.

"Lovely to see you, mate.  Where's Mysti?"  He asked about last year's captain, the lovely Mystique Ketteridge, obviously misinformed about who was captain this year.

Of course Sellaphix had to show up. That was truly inevitable. The boy was a terrible seeker. Absolutely terrible. He supposed the boy himself wasn't all too bad, despite being a disgusting, sloppy mess. Razzy wasn't sure if he liked Fig or not, which usually meant he didn't like the person. But he couldn't honestly say where he stood with him. However, he did believe him to be a crap seeker and he really didn't want him on his team. If there were no other seekers trying out, he'd have to hand it over to Figaro. But he'd hate every moment of it. Figaro could not be tamed, he already knew that. Razzy would attempt to intimidate him or control him and the boy would simply not care. Razzy did, admittedly, like that trait in a person. But not on his Quidditch team. Figaro was the only other Hufflepuff Razzy knew that had a backbone. And if he didn't suck at catching a snitch, Razzy would have loved to have his drive on the team. But alas...

"Razzelaud. You're back."

Razzy stared, blankly, at Figaro. Sellaphix had a very punchable face and Razzy couldn't get over that sometimes. But they were dormmates and they had somehow learned to deal with each other. Razzy doubted Figaro felt highly about him, and he didn't exactly care. However, he had a feeling it had something to do with Razzy being close with Erin. He suddenly realized their breakup wasn't entirely open and not many people knew the two were split up. He hadn't been asked question, as people know better than that, but he wondered if Fig would poke around. Razzy wouldn't take kindly to that, of course. The boy was naturally naive and always spoke inappropriately. Could Razzy honestly blame him? Of course he could. He doubted Fig would say anything, anyway. It was simply his presence that made Razzy glance over at the Slytherin booth again before he addressed his peer. "Hello, Sellaphix," he greeted in an almost bored tone. He didn't care whether or not he signed up. Razzy was mysterious. Yes, that was it.

"Lovely to see you, mate. Where's Mysti?"

"Likewise," Razzy answered, slipping his feet off the booth. He sat forward, leaning against the counter with his arms crossed. But then Figaro asked a rather peculiar question. Mysti? Razzy rose a brow. Figaro was rather slow, he realized, and he shouldn't have expected the boy to know that Razzy had replaced the girl. Mysti had been a fantastic captain, but for whatever reason, they appointed Razzy instead. He hadn't actually thought about that whole ordeal before. He had take Mysti's position unknowingly. Woops? "Not sure," Razzy answered, pushing his fringe back, out of his face. The boy tilted his head and continued to stare at Figaro with unblinking eyes. He paused before continuing, lips parting slowly, "You are aware that she's not longer Captain, don't you?" Razzy asked him. Of course he wasn't aware. Figaro wouldn't have asked about Mysti otherwise. However, Razzy wasn't one to boast, believe it or not. He would rather remain humble about his new position than going around telling people.

But he continued on, anyway. "They appointed me Captain this year," he spoke as if this wasn't anything special, "They say that I'm a natural born leader and show promise competitively." This was when he cracked a smile and chuckled to himself. How ridiculous. He was sure Figaro would understand how funny that sounded, too.

Under Razzy's cool gaze, Figaro didn't seem too concerned.  Razzy was a long languid sort, and Figaro's energy was decidedly more amped up.

He had to laugh at Razzy's description of his captainly traits.  Sounded like he was reciting some plaque from the Trophy Room.  Figaro didn't care really who the Captain was, just as long as he got to play.  If the captain had eyes and a brain, that did lessen Figaro's chances, but the kid tried each year anyway.

"You wish, mate.   Bloody good for you, anyway."  Too bad about Mysti - Fig had a crush on her since 2nd year but she'd foisted him off onto Sophie last year so it was all probably a dead end.

Figaro followed Razzy's glance past him back to the Slytherins' Quidditch booth; Figaro turned back to look at Razzy with a smirk.  "Bastards."

They'd lost their chance at the Quidditch Cup last year to Slytherin, when Erin had caught the snitch despite Figaro asking the crowd for directions.

"Alright, Mr. Captain, where do we sign up...?" he said even as he slid the sheet towards himself.

FIGARO SELLAPHIX whatever

Then he slid it back.

When it came to two specific Hufflepuff girls it was hard to tell which needed more prompting, Obderedria Pienas or Heliotrope LeJean. Over the course of the day Obderedria had hemmed and hawed over various groups and Heliotrope had to be explained again what Club Day was about. Also, the speckled haired Hufflepuff was living vicariously through the half mermish one.

So Heliotrope was sent stumbling over to the Hufflepuff Quidditch booth with borrowed reasoning like: "You're a much better flier than me. You almost dove off the bleachers that last game after the snitch. You're very athletic and they want tough little girls like you."

Heliotrope did remember flying, although she hadn't been on a broom since flying lessons. And, surprisingly, had taken to flying like a fish to water instead of a fish to a bicycle, because for one thing Heliotrope had appendages and functioning lungs. Flying had been the most straightforward class and as a result had been Heliotrope's biggest academic success of last year.

Although, even from watching several house matches she knew little about Quidditch. Mostly that the players chased some balls and avoided others.

Seeing Figaro sign up, Heliotrope followed suit in her attempts to assimilate.

HELIOTROPE LEJEAN ... WHATEVER

Mary Beth had intended to drag- or be dragged by, whatever the case may be- Pax to the Quidditch signups, but hadn't been able to track him down in the ruckus. She was sure he'd wind up there eventually, and as such she'd decided to go ahead and put her name down anyway. A summer's worth of growing pains and too-short sleeves and pant legs had seen her go from a waif just brushing the four foot mark to a... well, she was still short, but she had sprouted nearly five inches over the summer. Now she was no longer freakishly small, like... has-to-sit-on-a-phone-book small, but merely pleasantly petite. She supposed she was lucky she was a girl, a creature where being petite could be considered attractive.

As she approached the booth she saw several of her housemates already gathered, including Helio. She cracked her neck and flexed her shoulderblades before she reached the small group. The length of her bones was still slightly foreign to her.

"Mornin'," she greeted amiably, actually glad to be back in school uniform. Glancing up at Razzy- who she had never really spoken with- she added, "Congratulations."

After Helio was finished writing, she added below her signature-

Yes! Finally! Club day was here at last! This was a day Seto had been waiting for all term, for now he could finally put his name down for the Hufflepuff quidditch team. There was nothing else he cared about as much as he did this. Not even his pygmy puff, Lieutenant Commander Puff-N-Stuff, was loved as much as quidditch. Although admittedly his little pink companion came close. mostly because the little guy liked quidditch as much as he did. Puff always liked hiding in Seto's clothes so he could go flying with him. Today, however, Puff rode on his shoulder as he made his way down to the hall.

Seto wasn't the first to arrive at the table where Razzy was set up. Figaro was there, along with Mary Beth whom Seto had a great liking towards. The girl was spunky, fun. Wild even. She would be a hell of a lot of fun for the school for years to come. And that weird fish-girl was here too. Helicopter, or whatever her name was. Was she honestly signing up? That would probably be a good laugh.

When the two girls had finished signing up Seto took the paper an put his name down-

Seto Spalding, Beater

Ayla had been wandering the Great Hall looking at all the booths for the various clubs around Hogwarts. At the beginning of the day she had been rather excited about joining some new extra curriculars however as the afternoon waned she found that she hadn't signed up for a single thing. She hadn't even rejoined the school newspaper where she had comfortably been for the past two years. There was just something about writing gossip that she didn't want to do anymore. So instead Ayla found herself in front of the Quidditch booth.

The previous year Ayla had joined the team simply because Mysti had convinced her to. She wasn't exactly ripped or anything but she was lithe and fit and had done well enough as a chaser. She had been debating over the whole summer where she would come back to Quidditch or not. Her final game of the year had left her in the Hospital Hut for several days, regrowing her shoulder blade. While the wound was fully healed her shoulder still gave her trouble, though she knew it was more likely in her head than anything physical.

Despite her injury and the fact that Mysti was no longer captain, Ayla found herself weaving through the line of younger years and past Seto who, though she didn't want to admit it, was looking rather yummy this year. She gave Razzy a tentative smile (she had no idea where she stood with the enigmatic older year) before scribbling her name down.

Ayla Collins, Fourth Year, Chaser/Seeker

She figured she might as well try out for Seeker this year as well, less chance of getting hit by bludgers. Once her name was down she backed away from the booth and turned to the three second years, "Girls." She said in a cheery greeting, all three were roommates with her younger sister, "Damn, Mary Beth, look at you! Seems like all the lil ickles are going through puberty. Well darling any time you feel like having a make over just let me know." She gave the sprouting blonde a wink before turning to her speckled haired friend, "Any sign of my sister?"
