[Sept. 3] Looking Forward (Kirby Gracean).

on February 19, 2012, 05:01:27 PM

Sebastian examined the list on the desk in front of him, pushing his glasses back on his nose as he did so. Dipping a quill in a pot of red ink, the charms professor scored through the name of the sixth year Slytherin he had just spoken with. Since the start of the term, Sebastian had tried to put time aside and speak with sixth year students on what they hoped to get out of his classes, and why they had chosen to continue with Charms in these later years of their education. The next appointment on his list was Kirby Gracean, a Gryffindor.

From what the professor remembered of Miss Gracean before he took his year off, the girl had same talent, and seemed to enjoy the different spells she had been learning, but lacked in overall focus which the other students had. Sebastian had hoped this would have improved now that a year had passed, but Sebastian couldn’t help but have noticed she was still having trouble in classes over the past few days. He would be sure to bring this up with her during their meeting.

Checking the clock which hung on the wall, Sebastian noticed that there was still a few minutes to go before his meeting with Miss. Gracean was due to begin. The previous meeting had taken less time than expected, and so Sebastian pulled a spare sheet of parchment from the top drawer of his desk and began scribbling notes for the fifth year class on Friday. He had decided he would test them on the everyday applications of some of the more basic charms, and the professor needed to prepare some kind written examination.

Kirby made her way from the library after a long study period as she revised for her upcoming Newt classes and exams that the year ahead entailed and also planned for her upcoming club day. She had made the president of one of hogwarts longest running clubs the choir and orchestra.

She looked up to the clock to realise she was going to be late as she had an appointment with her charms professor. "Geez!" she whispered starting to panic that she would be disciplined for her time keeping. She grabbed her books, quill and note book into her bag before running towards the charms office.

As Kirby Gracean rounded the corner into Sebastian's office, the professor stood to greet her. "Ah, Miss Gracean, you're late. But, you're here now. Please take a seat." He gestured to the empty chair, waiting until the teenager had taken her place before he himself sat down, smiling reassuringly at Kirby.

"Now, Miss Gracean, as I mentioned in class I'm currently holding meetings with all students beginning their NEWT studies this year, so you're not in trouble or anything." Taking off his glasses, he breathed on each lens and cleaned them on his tie as he spoke, briefly examining them before returning the glasses to their perch. "I'm mostly looking to see what you're looking to get out of my classes, and where you hope they'll take you after you've finished here at Hogwarts."

Taking a blank sheet of parchment and his quill in order to make notes should he need to, the professor fixed his gaze on Kirby before continuing. "So tell me, what made to decide to continue studying Charms?"

Kirby swiftly entered the charms professor office casually. She ruffled with her hair before taking a seat in front of the large oak desk at the end of the room. She wondered what lay ahead of her even though she knew she would not be in trouble she was still slightly nervous. Kirby had never been in trouble but never had she been walked in for a meeting either.

She sighed slightly realising he knew she was late but why was he not bothered about her time keeping most professors did but she guessed he was different. "I like charms. I also need a newt to become a teacher so i knew i would succeed better in charms as i like to challenge myself sir" she replied truthfully.

Sebastian kept his eyes fixed on Miss Gracean as she spoke, only looking down at his parchment to quickly note down a word or two about her career aim as she mentioned it. He was happy to hear that she liked to challenge herself: that said, Sebastian hoped she was aware that NEWTs were challenges one didn't accept unless they felt fully confident to meet them.

"So would you be looking to teach Charms specifically, or would you be looking to teach something else?" He placed the quill at the side of his parchment, making sure it was set in a way as to avoid any of the ink staining his desk. "Trust me, the profession in general is good if you're looking for a challenge - not that I'm looking to put you off," Sebastian adds hastily.

Kirby was pleased that her charms professor was listening and commenting on her future ideas of her carter aspects of teaching. "I would like to teach rather Muggle studies or The Care of Magical Creatures. i am muggle born and have always read about magical creatures since i was a young girl so it seems to fit. But i would also like to become a professional quidditch player well seeker mainly i have always had good eye sight." she added smiling but answering his questions.
