One Between Two Leads Only To Arguement [Elijah]

on February 07, 2012, 12:08:10 PM

Alex enjoyed being in Hogwarts, the absence of her Father and the presence of her friends both endearing her to the school. And, of all the many rooms and corridors, her favourite was, albeit narrowly, the library. Somewhat strangely, part of the reason she actually liked the library was because it reminded her of the one in her own home, but apart from that, she loved it for the books. Books weren't something she would ever give up- whatever kind of book it might be, from muggle literature to heavy talking tomes, she loved reading. Yes, books were certainly among her most favoured objects- although awful, terribly written books, primarily romance, although their existence was not confined to a single genre, should be burnt.

Pushing the door open, she wandered over to the history section, reading the names of books as she went. Occasionally, she would reach up and pull a book from its place, or return one from her bulging satchel, but for the most part, the books were passed by. A few minutes of enjoyable meandering later, she arrived at the final stop on her tour of the library, pausing in front of a shelf. A frown wrinkled her face, as she registered the lack of the book she had wanted to take out.

Checking the shelves around, the book still hadn't made itself known, and eventually she reluctantly admitted defeat, turning to a boy, who she believed to be a Sixth year Hufflepuff, to ask in her politest tone, "Excuse me, but have you seen the copy of 100 years of- wait a second, what are you reading?"

Elijah moved to the library, excited to see that magnificent thing again, to read a history book about dragons. He tried to combine his love; history; with other things, like magical creatures. He liked creatures, maybe wanting a future in it. It was just that he did not see himself a s a librarian or something like that. Elijah needed fresh air during his day, something you hardly get when working in a library all day. Also a desk job at the Ministry of Magic did not seem that appealing to the boy. Reaching the library Elijah walked to the History section immediately. He could almost walk that part with his eyes closed, how much he had walked it. He rarely came in the library for something other than a new quest for a history book.

Finding the book '100 Years of History of Magical Creatures and the Muggle World' with relative ease he moved to a table to sit down. Straightening his uniform, his prefect badge shining proudly on his chest, he opened the book, fascinated by the magnificent pictures used in it. The book discussed the history of magical creatures, and how the magical world hid them from the muggles, something that had always fascinated him: how the magical world hid everything from the muggle world.

Just getting  into the book, once Elijah started to read he just got into a different world, he suddenly heard a vaguely recognizable voice beside him, asking him what he was reading. Letting out a soft sigh, he hated being disturbed when reading, he lifted his head to face the girl. It was a sixth year Ravenclaw, he recognized her from some classes. "I am reading '100 Years of History of Magical Creatures and the Muggle World." He replied, closing the book so the girl could see the title. "What seems to be the problem?" He added, as the girl seemed a tad distressed.

Okay, very polite indeed, but right now Alex was a little irritated to be appreciative of this fact. Not to mention he had her book- well, not hers, but she wanted to read it, ideally now.

"Oh, nothing," Alex drawled, sarcasm dripping from ever word, "Don't worry about it at all." Taking a theatrical deep breath, she did actually use it as an effort to calm down. She wasn't in the best of moods, and at the current rate, she would end up hexing someone. Probably the amiable Hufflepuff in front of her.

Managing a tentative smile, she said in a more normal voice, "I was looking for a book, and I couldn't find it." When she said it like that, it suddenly sounded, well, pathetic, and her smile widened into a grin, "So I was understandably surprised to see you in possession of it." Well, that finished, it sounded even more ridiculous than when she had started, and she could feel the irritation seeping away, leaving a sort of detatched interest.

"I didn't know you had an interest in the connection between the Magical and Mundane worlds, Young," she stated, finally remembering the Hufflepuff Prefect's surname. She had no clue what his first name was, and as he was in a number of her classes, she suspected that she should. But it wasn't as though their teachers used first names, so it wasn't all that surprising.
