Wand:
Gavin carries a thin and shiny Padauk wand, which he inherited from his mother after she was killed. His wand core is Runespoor Fang and the wood strength is Inflexible. The wood surface is a smooth but not as smooth as it used to be. The wand length is about 10” and it looks a bit beaten up but its more like a sleak and suave kind of wand (if a wand can be called suave).
Physical Description:
Gavin’s crazy-chocolate-brown-looking-hair has all the ladies going, or at least that is what he thinks. His hair is a mess of waves that seem to never be tamed even if Gavin wanted them to be. As a child he was made fun of by his goofy hair but now most people find it attractive. There are not a lot of dominate features that Gavin posses. The only thing that he is known for is his big golden eyes, which he inherited from his dad’s side of the family. He does have an irresistible charm that can do some magic of its own. Gavin isn’t one of those tall guys that can be seen anywhere in Diagon Alley. He weighs an average of 160 pounds (which changes every once in a while) and his height is about 6' 1''.
As for clothing he wears, no one actually knows where he shops. It’s pretty certain that he get his clothes costumed made. After the little, no -- BIG fortune Gavin possessed after his mother and father died, he was able to take care of himself not only in health but in looks as well. He does dress kind of odd, even for a wizard, and he never wears clothes that stand out. Anything that will detach himself from the rest of his peers will due. His lips are thin lines that never seem to change from a frown. When smiling, Gavin has a flirty smirk. They usually call it a half smile. Most of the time his smile never reaches his eyes though and observing him you can see that being an orphan at a young age can do a lot of damage. There are usually circles under his eyes from lack of sleep, who needs sleep when you’re a teenager, but other than that he usually looks pretty content with his life.
Personality Description:
Nothing ever gets past Gavin, he is very observant and usually he keeps to himself. At times he can be very outgoing with the ladies and just like any other teenage boy he tries to get as many girlfriends as he can possibly attain. Usually this never works out because everyone knows that Gavin is a creep and can break anyone’s heart, but some fall into his flattering phrases. He tries to be the romantic type but usually it just comes out as being a goofy kid. This is why he tries to keep to himself. His few close friends really know who Gavin is -- a tired boy that seems to keep all the pain inside. He never gossips about his own life, it will only cause problems for him afterwards. Being a wonderful liar, Gavin usually gets away with things. The only reason for this is comon sense; don't make patterns and don't be an idiot.
There are always rude remarks coming out of Gavin's mouth, unless you’re an attractive girl or an adult. He isn’t that rude to be disrespectful to his elders. Gavin has a lot of respect for higher and intelligent people that have connections in high places. Weak willed people aren’t associated with him. He revolves himself around strong people who will have promising futures. Gavin is a bit full of himself and he always thinks negatively about people. Some may say he has a big head and is too overconfident but he is the exact opposite. He would rather say how he feels about other people to their face instead of gossiping behind their back. Gavin is no coward and will take a chance in dueling anyone who wants to, even if he knows he is going to lose. There is a hero streak in Gavin, which some will find hard to believe, he will stick up for anyone he finds worthy. It’s not much of a hero but he is in Slytherin after all. As for sticking up for himself, he doesn’t really care what people think about him.
A love for the dark arts lives through his veins, Gavin loves to use dark magic and he is always reading a book. He never leaves without one. Some may say he should have been in Ravenclaw for his intellect but he never really enforces it in school and due to his love of dark magic there was no denying he would be in his family’s favorite house, Slytherin. Gavin tries to learn all sorts of dark spells, he isn’t very fond of potions, but he can never find any good books in the library at school. Therefore, he usually reads his mother collection (which he also inherited) and tries to get his hands on as many books as he can without showing any actual interest in them. He’s not as stupid as he seems, he defiantly doesn’t want to get caught reading anything dark. Ana would kill him if he got caught and his close “brother” Alex would laugh at his stupidity. There are not a lot of rules in his household but one of the major ones are don't make the family look stupid.
History:
On April 4th, 1991 little Gavin Breaden Snark was born in London, UK to the parents of Grace Mulciber and Gustav Snark. Just two days after his birth came Alexander Rhys Snark, born to Analiza Snark and his father James Davis (who left after 3 months of Ana being pregnant). Two new babies to the family only seemed to make the family closer. Gavin was an interesting baby to watch. Whatever he saw he had to touch. There was never a time where Gavin felt mellow. He barely cried, thank goodness, and he felt somehow attached to his father more than his mother. Whenever he did wrong, he tried to ameliorate the situation right away. He hated when people were troubled and he seemed much like his father. Grace always commented that Gavin’s personality mirrored Gustav’s and that she loathed seeing that her little son would be in Gryffindor. It didn’t matter though, they were all content.
As years went by, years that Gavin will never remember in the future, Gavin was always spoiled. He loved to feel cosseted just like any other child. Alex was his “nephew” but they acted like cousins, more like brothers really. Since Ana was a young mother, Grace usually looked after both Alex and Gavin. The two of them were practically inseparable. Partners in crime they were. If the two of them were together they would always get in trouble. Grace had a hard time watching the two of them together but she never complained. She loved both of them and couldn’t help but laugh at their pathetic faces every time they were caught doing something funny -- like pulling the toilet paper off the roll and throwing it all over the bathroom or playing with her makeup. Discipline was of course the answer to this, Grace was no a pushover, and there were many times locked in his room, but Gavin still was a happy baby.
In 1994, Lord Voldemort came into power. Because of this, Grace decided it was best for her family’s safety to go to Italy to hide. She knew that her family would try to convince her into joining the death eaters and she didn’t want to risk her new family’s life. Gustav wasn’t too happy about leaving his family in London but he knew that Grace was right. Gavin’s safety was more important than anything else. His parents decided to move to their summer home in Rome, Italy. It wasn't as spacious as his other home but Gavin didn't mind, as long as he had his toys he was happy. The move did separate Alex and Gavin, but after many tantrums and the hole in the wall Grace made with her fist, Gavin stopped for he knew that his parents were tense about something way beyond his understanding.
Life seemed to go pretty peaceful, Gavin was usually inside all the time or at least as close to his house as possible. There seemed to never be a time when he was left alone. He loved the fact that he was getting so much attention though and it made him feel special. The so called “extended vacation” Gavin was on came to an end in October 1997 when finally their hideout was exposed. Minutes after Grace was killed, Gustav fetched Gavin. When he found Gavin he was laying over his dead mother’s body with her wand in his hand (which he hasn’t let out of his sight since) and tears running down his face. He didn’t understand why his mother had died and he kept telling his father, “They were hooded people daddy, scary people and they killed mommy and they laughed.” After the funeral was over for Grace, he was brought back to London with his father. He didn’t say much after that. Both Gavin and Gustav weren’t the same. The bond between them seemed to only getting thicker.
It was hard to get Gavin to smile, everyone in his family tried but failed. He still didn’t understand the reason for his mother’s death. Without a mother, Gavin tried to do things his own way. This never went right though with his father but when he failed he never gave up. Determined to do everything himself, he got into fights with his family about wanting to do everything his way. There was no light shining from Gavin’s eyes, there were just darks circles underneath them. His father insisted on taking the wand of Grace’s away from Gavin but he didn’t want to give it up. In his mind, it was his. It was the only thing close he had of his mother’s.
During the Battle of Hogwarts in May 20th, 1998 Gavin’s father was murdered. After this incident, Gavin went through a serious depression. He was too young to really understand why everything was happening to him, but during this he was able to grow up. Some say that growing up takes years to experience, but for Gavin he didn’t have a choice. He needed to grow up. His older sister Ana was his legal guardian but he didn’t accept it at first. It wasn’t the fact that Gavin hated her, because he truly loved his sister, but he just couldn’t accept that he had no parents.
During the next couple of years Gavin grew accustomed to his life again. He accepted that his parents had died for a good cause and he was actually very proud of them. Analiza didn’t have to worry much about Gavin because he was a pretty behaved kid, he kept to himself and like anyone else he couldn’t wait to go to Hogwarts. It was probably the only place where Gavin could start anew without everyone knowing who he really was. The day the letter of acceptance to Hogwarts was received he was so happy. Begging his sister day after day, she finally allowed him to go to Diagon Alley where he would get his supplies on the list.
Hogwats was magical! There was no other way to describe it. He wanted to learn all the secrets of Hogwarts but it was impossible to do so. Gavin tried forcing many students to tell him the secrets in his first year, which only got him into fights. Gavin was a little punk and was sorted into Slytherin. The sorting hat did debate – but only for a moment if he should go to Ravenclaw. He never confided in this to anyone else. If anyone knew he was considered to be in Ravenclaw they would surely laugh at him. He got along fine with everyone, he liked, and he always had to flirt with girls. That was a must. Gavin was known for picking on other people all the time and he loved the fact that people were a bit afraid of him as he reached his 4th year.
Gavin wasn’t very interested in clubs and activities such as Quidditch or other stupid clubs students made with no life. He did enjoy the Quidditch matches though and found them a bit entertaining, which he never wanted to admit. Ragging on other students was a hobby of his and he always did pretty decent in school. If he tried hard enough he would probably be at the top of his class, or maybe he just thought that. As years went by he started to get a feel for the secrets of Hogwarts. He never encountered the Room of Requirement, but he wishes to do so one day before he graduates. His "brother" Alex is very close to him and hes probably the only one Gavin really trusts in his life. Afterall, Alex was there for Gavin during everything. He was his partner in crime as a child and is still to this very day.
How Do You Fit Into Your House?:
Gavin has every trait for being in Slytherin; the passion for the darks arts, the hatred for people different than him, and a love for breaking the rules (but of course never getting caught). He can be a sneaky guy and he doesn’t care about people he considers unworthy.
Writing Sample:
There were no words to describe how Gavin felt. Clutching his wand, which was not only for safety but a natural habit he had every time he felt uncomfortable or angry, Gavin ran after his prey. If there was one thing that he hated most in the world it would have to be betrayal. It felt like someone had knocked the wind out of him, like 400 pounds for weight landed on his chest. How could he be so stupid, letting his feelings open to a girl and being squashed by his own friend who took her away? He had to make a mental note, never to trust anyone again.
Gavin’s heart raced faster and faster and the lump in his throat seemed impossible to swallow. He was being too dramatic here. He clearly made a scene in the Great Hall when he saw his “friend” and his ex (well now ex) girlfriend kissing for the world to see. As a result, his ex started crying and his friend fled the scene before everyone noticed what was really going on. It wasn’t like he cared for the girl, what he did care about was his friend who betrayed him.
Running faster and faster, Gavin yelled out to his prey, “You filth come back here and let me show you how it feels to be betrayed!!!” he felt his blood pressure rising, that wasn’t a good sign. He casted a couple of jinxes but nothing seemed to hit the target. His aim was off since he was out of breathe and he was shacking furiously. This is stupid!!, Gavin thought to himself. Why should I care about this boy, he is dead to me now. And with that Gavin turned around and walked the other way to his common room. It was settled, he would never get so stressed like that over a girl again and one day he would get back at the boy who took her away. It wasn't like he cared, there were other fish in the sea.
Gavin was sent to detention for the next three weeks. Well, Gavin thought as he gathered herbal plants with the Herbology Professor. It's better than being expelled for killing a student.
Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Gavin Breaden Snark: Overall he is a pretty charming guy. Gavin is not bad looking but has a bit of an odd look to him. There is nothing that can get past Gavin, and he doesn’t care for what people think about him. When he grows up, he wants to do something that deals with books. He may even want to write his own book when he gets older. There is probably a zero chance that Gavin will ever settle for a girl but she may come one day and when she does, she will be treated like a Queen.
