Leopold's Transfigurations 1st Year [Wednesday]

on January 31, 2012, 09:27:18 PM

The door was open when the first students began to arrive.  There was a message written on the blackboard in large white letters.

PLEASE CHOSE YOUR SEATS

PLEASE BRING YOUR WAND AND TEXTBOOK TO EVERY CLASS

YOU MAY TALK QUIETLY UNTIL CLASS STARTS

Leopold wanted to see how the students reacted when given a little freedom of choice.   He didn't have a terribly difficult day planned.  Learning had to sometimes be fun in order for it to be effective.  Howler sat on his shoulder, chewing in an almond cookie and littering Leopold's robes with crumbs.

OOC:  There are 16 desks, each with two seats, arranged in a 4 x 4 pattern.  As you chose a seat, please indicate which one.

Annette walked into Transfiguration that day smiling. Classes were running smoothly so far, this would be fun right? Changing objects into other objects. Nette had also heard that it was quite difficult. If you ended up turning a bowl into a book, but the book was round, points would be taken off. Yikes.

Annette had also already read the first chapter of the book and placed it gently on the desk. She pulled out her wand and placed it over her book. She liked the place where she was, so didn't move when she read the blackboard. Nette sat in the first row in the aisle seat, or seat #2. She waited for Alice and everyone else. While she waited she wrote a quick note to herself in her planner, yes a planner, Annette was, VERY organized and would not forget homework or to write home.

Annette put her planner away and pulled out a few sheets of parchment, blue ink, and her striped pheasant feather quill. "Good morning sir." Annette addressed Professor Sandusky politely, she would have to get on his good side, it could affect her grades and because he was head of Hufflepuff, the quality of the next 7 years of her life.

Lexi pushed open the door to her Transfigurations class and walked in. "Good morning Professor," she said polietly.   She sat down quietly in seat 3, next to Annette. She yawned slightly as she set down her text book and wand on the desk. While waiting for class to start, she opened up her book and flipped through a few pages. It was filled with mulititudes of information, scattered all about. Her eyes skimmed across the page quickly, just looking at what the topics were about.

Everything about this new school was, well, new! The information, the people, and the different procedures. Lexi was looking forward to Transfiguration. It was going to be a great class, at least that's what she had heard from her friend's older siblings. The door opened again and she looked behind her to see who was walking in next.

Alice scurried into the classroom, saying a quick and quiet "Hello Professor," sitting down in seat 4. She was having an off day. Things of hers were missing, and though it may have been due to the fact that she fell asleep organizing all of her things, she looked to the worst. Someone had stolen these things.

So, today, Alice was being extra observant. She had once watched a crime show with Lexi (for 15 minutes before it became to bloody for her) and they had stated that a criminal will mess up. So, she was using this exact strategy with her case. No one was being spared from suspicion.

She took out her wand, setting it off to the left side and took her textbook out, placing it daintily in the middle of the table.

Annette frowned. Alice seemed a little off today. Nette thought Alice would come sit next to her, since no one was quite sure if we were supposed to sit by house. Oh well, she needed to socialize with the other kids anyway. Lexi was Alice's friend too, Annette didn't own Alice just because they were in the same house. Annette needed to relax more, meet new people.

Other people

Annette was never good with making friends. That's why she had started with her neighbors, they wouldn't be able to get away from her. Ever.

Oh well, she was being stupid. She waited for someone else to come in and sit next to her. But it always stunk when someone didn't want to sit with you, but the seat next to you is the only one empty.

Mercedes strutted into Transfiguration that day, with her hair a dark blue, long, and curly. She looked tired this morning, she thought her hair would hide the dark circles under her eyes. Bangs covered just over her eyes.

She looked at the black board and sat in seat 8 right behind a mousy-brown-haired Hufflepuff girl next to a Gryffindor girl with fire-y hair.

Professor Sandusky sat at his desk with a silly grin on his face.
Hufflepuffs
Mercedes pulled out her text book and placed it on the desk. The withdrew her family's wand. It had been handed down for generations, all the great Spanish Posadas had it, Maybe she would be the next.

Lucy sauntered into the classroom, read the board, and chose seat 10. She never liked sitting in the front, nor did she like sitting in the back. If I am going to goof off in my other classes, I may as well pay attention in one. She pictured coming home on the train with her report card in hand. She imagined climbing off and running to Devlin, giving him a hug. Then, showing him her grades. He would be proud of her. She would get high marks in this class.

Does this school run on marks, or is there some fancy-shmancy magical thing? Lucy wondered. She was too frightened to ask the teacher, however, because it seemed that the rest of the girls sitting in the room all remotely knew what they were doing. She didn't have a clue.

She figured she would just ask Professor Levartan, the head of Gryffindor tonight. The professor had been the first one (not counting Devlin or her mother) person who could preform magic.

Not too far in the back, under no circumstances right up front. Not too close to anyone who might look like they were likely to bully him, or be an insufferable teacher´s pet, or a bunch of giggly girls who all just talked to each other and ignored everyone next to them completely.

Not that Marlon minded being ignored. He just preferred not to be in the vicinity of people who needed to show off their cliquiness, passing little notes and whispering and acting like the world revolved around them.

When he entered the classroom (after yet another tiresome struggle with the moving staircases who simply refused to drop him off at the right landing), he made straight for the second-to-last row, choosing seat 12. It was close to the wall, just as he liked it, and with an empty seat in between him and the next student.

He took out his wand and set it down on the desk in front of him, as well as his textbook and fountain pen. Although others wrote with quills, he saw no reason for him to do so as well… it would end up in him making a mess out of his notes, all blurry and smudged, and there´d be no way he wouldn´t get ink stains all over his ridiculously long sleeves and on his fingers and basically everywhere.

Dessa walked into the Transfiguration classroom, and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw an open seat next to Annette. Quickly, Dessa plopped down into seat 1. She hadn't spent too much time talking to Annette since they'd gotten to school, but she was happy to sit next to her friend. Pulling out her quill (she was still getting used to not using muggle pens), a sheet of parchment (ditto with paper), and wand (she couldn't even begin to address that), Dessa turned to Annette.
"So, are you excited?" she asked.

"What kind of question is that? Of course I'm excited" Annette teased. She really was excited. Nette smiled, she was only teasing, she didn't want to come across as a jerk to Dessa, some one she had only met on the train. She needed as many friends as she could muster that actually liked her so she would never be alone.

Anni remembered before she knew she was a witch, people had pretended to be her friends, and when ever summer holiday arrived, they had all moved on. She knew that Alice and Lexi would never leave her, but she just needed to get to know Dessa a little more. Dessa had sat with her in the first place, it was a sign that she  is comfortable in Nette's presence.

"How about you? Excited? Sorta miss your mom and dad though right?"

Dessa laughed. "A stupid one, I guess. I dunno, just a conversation starter." She was relieved that Nette was willing to talk to her, otherwise this would be a very lonely class, not to mention a lonely year. So far, her only real friend here was Lexi, whom she'd been lucky to meet over the summer. Dessa was always happier when she was around friends.

"Oh I'm so excited you wouldn't believe it. My father is too actually. I certainly miss my Dad. It's just me and him." Dessa replied. She grinned fondly, remembering her father's painting while she sat alongside him, scribbling away.

Blossom entered, still flustered from his Charms discovery.  His mortal enemies, the family responsible for the curse that had brought his family almost to their knees were not only at Hogwart's they were in the same house.  Unless he was very careful, he wouldn't last seven years.

He chose a seat at the back of the room, something he thought he would never do but it was the only way to make sure that neither of the Posada's could get behind him.

I'm going to need allies.  No, not allies, minions.  Expendable minions.  But where can I find them?
His eyes found the professor.  Of course.  Hufflepuff.

Lexi leaned towards Alice, "What are you doing?" She asked. Alice was being awful quiet and she kept looking around at different people as if she was.... observing them?  "Are you feeling okay?" She asked again. What a silly question to be coming from Lexi, she was the one in pain from just walking around and sitting there. Before class, the chocolate she had eaten had helped somewhat but not much.

This full moon werewolf thing was horrible, but for now it just irritated her. The sore joints, purple bruises under her eyes from lack of sleep, just the pain in general. She shifter slighty, crossing her legs and uncrossing them when her knees proved to be the epicenter of pain for the moment. She yawned, yet again, possibly like the thousandth time today. Three days left... just had to make it three days until she could actually get some sleep and start feeling like herself again.

Noticing Lexi shifting uncomfortably in her seat, Dessa frowned at her friend's obvious pain. Reaching across Nette in a way that she hoped wasn't rude, she patted Lexi on the shoulder.
"I have Hershey kisses in my bag if you want one." she offered. "Muggle candy. Chocolate." she replied, at Lexi's blank expression.

"I know what those are silly, remember who my Dad is?" Lexi rolled her eyes as she accepted the candy. "Raised like a muggle Dessa, makes these my favorite little pick-me-ups." She said holding up the shiny, silver wrapper. She turned her attention back to Alice after approiatly thanking her friend for the chocolate.

"Answer me wierdo, what's going on?" She questioned, poking her in the shoulder.
