[Jazz] on January 31, 2012, 12:49:54 AM Head Boy.Head freaking Boy.That was the only thing on Church's mind after the announcement last night. Mostly because he couldn't exactly figure out why they would pick him for the job. He sort of understood why Jazz would be picked for Head Girl, at least she was involved with school organizations and was generally nice to other students along with her good grades. Church on the other hand only really had his good grades going for him. After all he was usually Mr. Cynical. He barely even knew the names of his fellow seventh years, let alone sixth and below. How on Earth was he meant to lead the student body? So come the morning of their announced free day Church had risen early, more or less hell bent to spend the morning contemplating whether or not he even wanted the title. No one had asked him, and the responsibility seemed horrendous. In the end Church had decided to talk with Jazz (and maybe a professor) about it before making a choice.Church more or less flew down to the Great Hall to catch his friend for breakfast and just as he crossed the threshold he called out to her, "JAZZ!" Ignoring the looks from other students, and the protests of other Gryffindors at the table Chruch managed force himself to a spot directly across from her where he stood leaning over the table palms on the hard wood. "Jazz," he repeated in as level a voice he could manage. "What do we dooooo?" By now he couldn't even pretend that he wasn't worried about his new position.Smooth. That's just something she couldn't imagine herself as. Not that she wasn't capable, of course. She was a good student... and perhaps a good role model. But going as far as making her a student leader was just... odd. How the hell was she supposed to keep up with her studies, preparing for NEWTs, running the Hogwarts Players, putting on shows, be head of the student body and keep her sanity? As a result of these worries, she couldn't sleep. She spent the entire night tossing and turning, thinking, over-thinking, and thinking some more. That's the only reason she rolled out of bed and into the Great Hall for breakfast, with dark circles all the more noticeable against her porcelain skin. Without class until eleven, it seemed a crime to be up this early. Not bothering to get dressed, she trudged to the Gryffindor table in a haze; hair in a careless bun. Not caring what she looked like or what other students were thinking of her; especially about being chosen for the Head Girl title, she sat in the nearest empty seat and poured herself a glass of orange juice. Jazz sat there for what felt like hours, sipping her drink through a straw as she stared into space, thinking, until a familiar voice range out in her name.Looking up with furrowed eyebrows, she saw Church running toward her in what seemed like panic. It was coincidental that her best friend received the title of Head Boy, a notion that baffled her. What were the odds? She nearly laughed at his pleading question. "Good morning to you too, Church," she replied stiffly with a half smile, picking up a dry bagel and tearing it apart idly. "To what are you referring to?" she asked numbly, though fully aware of what he meant, gesturing in front of her to have Church take a seat. She was dreadfully tired, but she figured talking it out would be a good way to lessen the tension. Skip to next post Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? He was freaking out over here! And he almost never was concerned or anxious about anything. But here was Jazz sitting all calm like it was nothing. Bloody seers... it was probably that eye of her. She probably knew this was coming..."To what are you referring to?"This time Church rolled his eyes. "Oh don't play coy," he said rather calmly. Seriously, has to be the eye. She probably knew this conversation was coming and prepped her responses already. Still, may as well clarify. "Head Boy and Girl." Church sighed and sat down on the bench. He hated how she was so calm while he was not. Okay fine, stay calm. Relax. Church took a deep breath and let it out.Okay much better."Seriously though, what are we going to do about this?" Church continued solemnly. "I mean... I'll be honest, I don't even really know what Head Boy and Girl do." He gave another sigh and slumped onto the table slightly. "I didn't sleep a wink last night." she replied lowly, washing the bagel down with a few sips of orange juice. "You really think I'd be down here this early if I wasn't under an enormous amount of stress?" she asked nonchalantly, deciding to look him square in the eye. "I'm only sixty percent sure I'm actually talking to you rather than sleep deprivation playing tricks on me." she joked, rubbing her temples."Even if I did see this coming, it would not quell the panic that has settled in my heart." she added cryptically, thinking about what she just said."Wow, that sounded a bit dramatic, didn't it? This is what mental and physical exhaustion does to me." she shook her head with a light smile. "Unfortunately, things I see aren't as convenient as I want. Oh, by the way, you're having a solo in the upcoming musical." she smirked and ate the rest of the first half of the bagel. "As if I wouldn't have known that anyway..." she trailed off lowly, thinking about the responsibilities of Head Boy and Girl."Don't we just... I don't know, say 'oh, be good everyone,' and then call it a day? I don't know. I don't pay attention. Honestly I don't know what possessed them to pick us for the job." Otherwise Jazz might have noticed how contorted his face had become trying not to laugh out loud at that statement. Goodness she could be dramatic sounding when she wished, couldn't she. "Wow, that sounded a bit dramatic, didn't it?"Church laughed. Well at least she recognized it. Okay so she wasn't nearly as calm as she appeared. That was good. That made him feel much better. That made him comfortable accepting that both heads of the student body hadn't a clue on what the teachers were thinking. Feeling suddenly hungry Church grabbed a few strips of bacon and downed them, debating whether or not he wanted more."Oh, by the way, you're having a solo in the upcoming musical.""I wouldn't dream of it any other way," Church replied sarcastically, rolling his eyes. Up until now he had mostly forgotten about the theater group that Jazz was mostly forcing him to be in. He didn't really mind it, actually he kind of enjoyed it, but truth be told he didn't really want to do it. "Just so long as I get to sing it in a ridiculous soprano voice.""Don't we just... I don't know, say 'oh, be good everyone,' and then call it a day?"Church shook his head. "I think it's a bit more complex than that..." Again he sighed and took a rather large bite out of a piece of toast. "I think we're supposed to do patrols at night. And do stuff with the prefects, give detentions, dock points, all that stuff." Church shrugged. "But yea, I don't really know why they picked us. Should probably talk to Trishna..." Skip to next post Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? Uuuugggghhhh..." she trailed off, breathing heavily and giving up, looking back up at Church. She tried to imagine him and her lurking about the castle at night, spotting some misbehavior by the suits of armor and writing them up. "I feel bad for the people who actually wanted this position. It's like, 'Nah, let's give it to people who have no idea what they're doing.'"Her sarcasm didn't deflate Jazz's worry. "You know, I barely know what the hell I'm doing with the Players. I mean, I know what to do: theatre's my life. But being in charge of everything... and if I fail... I don't just disappoint myself but everyone else. And now being Head Girl? And then my stupid... foreboding on the cusp of my mind." she added in frustration. "It's like I have to take care of my future career, my school and now some stranger's life. Don't forget what's left of my sanity and my pride." she mumbled to herself, finishing her orange juice. She didn't like unloading everything on Church. Or anyone. She couldn't look at him anymore. She was whining, and she hated it. "I'm sorry," she apologized with a loud sigh, rubbing her temples."I suppose I could talk to Levartian... she's probably the one that wanted me to do it. Maybe she can convince me why." she thought out loud, starting to finish the rest of her bagel wordlessly. There was an annoyance starting to burn within her that was too much to ignore. "I thought you had lost it ages ago." He shrugged slightly at the theater comments. At this point in time he was more or less convinced that it would go well, especially with Jazz running the show. She had a certain talent for the whole theater thing, not just acting. "At least you can delegate some of the theater stuff if you have to." Church sighed and continued eating various foods off the table. Skipping dinner last night was horrible in hindsight... "Speaking of the theater," Church continued steadily. "I'm assuming that you're going to force my involvement some how? After all apparently I already have a solo..." He smiled at her and downed a rather large glass of orange juice. Then regret set in as he noted how much pulp was in the damn thing. Pulp was disgusting. What did strainers exist if not for exactly this sort of reason? It was simply beyond him how anyone could possibly drink something with pulp in it. "And you probably should," Church commented. "Talk to her, I mean. I'm now pretty set on cornering Trishna to ask him about this." With a small shrug he swung a leg over the bench and eyed the hall for some of the other prefects. While he knew most of them by face if not by name he had to admit that was pretty much the extent of his knowledge. "We should do something to get to know our prefects..." he said quietly. "We can use the special bath, right?" Skip to next post Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? [Jazz] Reply #7 on February 01, 2012, 02:00:46 AM She sighed and licked her lips, looking up at him sheepishly. "Yes, I want you to be involved with the Players, but... if you're really against it, I can't force you. After all, the future is subjective. It can always change..." she trailed off and dropped her gaze, not actually knowing if that was true, but wanted to reassure Church. Jazz knew perfectly well how uncomfortable he was with the concept of joining, but she also knew how much he'd come to enjoy it if he stuck with it. He was talented, and a good person to have by your side and she would love for him to be apart of it. But, she didn't want to force him."I was thinking of a Wizard of Oz type musical, you know, to poke fun at what muggle literature imagined magic to be. What I really want to do is a Star Wars parody I wrote last year... not sure if that would go over well with others."Stress aside, Church's suggestion about getting to know the Prefects seemed like a good idea. What made her nose-laugh was 'special bath'. She loved that he was funny even when he didn't plan it. "I haven't been in the Prefect's Bathroom, but I know Head Boy and Girl can use it. I wonder how big it is..." she said with a small smile, finishing the rest of the bagel and grabbing a couple green apples for later. "What, do you think we should have a get-together of sorts with them?" she asked a little suspiciously, eying her friend. Skip to next post Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? [Jazz] Reply #8 on February 01, 2012, 10:03:26 PM A look of pure disdain flickered across his face at the mention of Oz. "Sure," Church said agreeing with the idea. "But please, not Oz. Even I have standards." And Church hated Oz. It wasn't that it was a bad story, per se. It was simply that he never felt it to be as amazing as so many people made it out to be. It was over hyped to about the same degree as Fight Club to him. He shook his head at the Star Wars idea though. "No Star Wars either," because he was in agreement that it would go over poorly. "Try something modern with a lot of various roles. Mama Mia is always a crowd pleaser..."Church shrugged slightly. "Well I heard the prefects bath is massive. If that's the case we should throw a pool party." It was probably a bad idea to do something like that, actually. Nothing in Hogwarts stayed a secret for long and once word got out that the prefects were having a party Church imagined a lot of unexpected guests. Not that he cared much... theoretically the password should keep out most people. "What do you think?" he asked her. "Any better idea?" Skip to next post Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? [Jazz] Reply #9 on February 02, 2012, 06:32:44 PM Jazz giggled. "I said a musical like Oz... such as Wicked. But it's not set-in-stone." She then thought about Mamma Mia. There arere only 8 roles for it... I'd have to see who wants a big part. she thought, sticking her tongue out slightly as her mind drifted. She then tried to picture Church as one of the main characters. There was Sky the fiance or one of the three fathers to pick from. He has a good range so any would do."Mamma Mia sounds possible. Ooh, Jekyll and Hyde. Do you think that's too depressing for Hogwarts? What about Sweeney Todd or Phantom of the Opera?" she thought out loud, the possibilities giving her goosebumps."But, yeah, a pool party sounds great. As long as we're not breaking any rules."But her mind was elsewhere. So many musicals to choose from. There were eleven year-old's at Hogwarts, so she couldn't do anything too disturbing...Unless I toned it down... but what fun would that be?"Does this mean you'll join?" she asked, looking at Church with doe-eyes and a pout. Please please please please please! "I'll be your best friend forever..." Skip to next post Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? [Jazz] Reply #10 on February 02, 2012, 07:00:17 PM "You mean you aren't already my be-ef-ef?" Church countered. "This certainly is news to me and I for one am absolutely devastated." Out of habit he rolled his eyes. At this point he figured Jazz was so used to his sarcasm that it didn't even bother her anymore. "And no. This means there is a definite possibility that I will consider joining," he finished. "It's completely different."He considered for a moment about the plays listed. "Phantom would require a girl with one hell of a range." Technically it would require a boy with a good range too, but knowing his luck he'd end up with the part. And Church could hit the notes. "Sweeney Todd? Are you trying to scar little children for life while getting the players disbanded?" Actually he doubted the kids would mind, but the pureblood parents were another story. "Jekyll and Hyde would probably be okay because it's more about redemption and learning not to judge a book by its cover." Although truth be told it he just wanted to do that play really badly."As for the pool party..." Church changed gears. "I honestly have no idea if we'd be breaking rules. But it would probably best if we had it after curfew. Less suspicious having every prefect drop out of view that way." Technically his reasoning was sound. During they day they would all have obligations to keep up, which meant it would b hard for every single one to show up for a long duration. "Plus, I figure it would help keep it... exclusive." Skip to next post Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? [Jazz] Reply #11 on February 02, 2012, 11:19:33 PM Jazz formed a slow and fond smile, knowing Church would give in. She was so grateful to have him as a friend: he had never let her down. Hmm... a girl with one hell of a range. That's hard to come by. It's still a possibility, though. Jazz squinted her eyes at Church; seeing his hidden desire to do Jekyll and Hyde for the musical. Of course he would, she thought with a sly smile and a shake of her head. Three guesses at which part he'd want."Past curfew..." she said lowly, considering the idea. "I guess it would make the most sense... it should be on the weekend. So people aren't too tired for classes. Do you think we'd need to forewarn the Headmaster or something? Maybe he'll like the idea of a pool party... but then again, maybe not."Jazz was getting excited about the party. It would be a good opportunity to get to know the Prefects she has to work with, and it will be an excuse to use the pack of squirt guns she brought with her. "By the sound of it we need some bouncers and red-velvet ropes." she joked lightly. Skip to next post Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? [Jazz] Reply #12 on February 03, 2012, 07:40:12 PM "Mmm, that's what I was thinking too," Church said in reference to what day it should be. Probably a Friday or Saturday night, that way they could sleep in the next day. But telling the Headmaster? "Whoa, let's not do anything drastic." Personally, he didn't think any teacher would really approve of such antics. Abuse of power and all that. "What he doesn't know won't kill him." Theoretically, at least. Though Church didn't expect him to have a heart attack if he heard that the Head Boy and Girl were throwing an after hours party for all the Prefects.Church shrugged. "Hey, unless you want the entire school showing up I think we should keep this on the dee-el." He could just see it now... If word got out horrible amounts of students would show up. And all that would achieve is a rowdiness level so high Scotland Yard would hear it and come to investigate the noise."Anyway, let's set if for next Friday or Saturday and discretely tell the Prefects." "It would certainly make things more interesting. Alright, let's do it. I'll tell the Gryffindors, you tell the Ravenclaws, and whoever sees the others go for it." she said softly, looking around the Hall for the people of interest. "We should develop our own secret language. Just for unsavory Prefect business."She looked back at Church momentarily before rubbing the dark circles under her eyes. "I really hope there are no masses of shenanigans going around Hogwarts the night we have it. That would be hard to explain.""And I'm thinking I need to bring multiple adrenaline shots on rounds in case I crash," she said between yawns, proving her point. "You'll stick it to me, won't you? You know I hate needles." Skip to next post Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? [Jazz] Reply #14 on February 09, 2012, 03:33:02 AM "Of course," Church commented. "You know how much I love jabbing people with pointy objects. The more they fear it, the better." He offered her a wicked grin, but hoped that if it actually did come to adrenaline shots, Jazz would be the one to make him drink it. No way in hell he would take it unless forced."Anyway, I'll catch up with you later." Forcing a few more strips of bacon into his mouth Church stood and stretched. "Righ'" Church managed through the mouthful. "Gotta find them prefects." And with that he hopped off to the Ravenclaw table to find his first batch of prefects. Skip to next post

Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? Skip to next post
Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? "Any better idea?" Skip to next post
Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? "I'll be your best friend forever..." Skip to next post
Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? "Plus, I figure it would help keep it... exclusive." Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? Skip to next post
Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? And all that would achieve is a rowdiness level so high Scotland Yard would hear it and come to investigate the noise."Anyway, let's set if for next Friday or Saturday and discretely tell the Prefects." Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now? [Jazz] Reply #13 on February 03, 2012, 10:36:24 PM Jazz tapped her fingers against the table and sighed. "It would certainly make things more interesting. You know I hate needles." Skip to next post
Re: [Aug 31] Wait, Head What Now?
