Intrview for A Part-time Sketch Artist ( Scirey) on April 14, 2009, 01:05:28 PM Samuel was sitting behind a desk, though not in his office. he was in the room where the Department conducted interviews. Normally, he was interviewing candidates for the Auror Office, however he had been asked to conduct the interviews for the position of Sketch Artist, since he knew what they needed to be able to do. he had just concluded an interview, which would probably be preserved as an example of how not to act at an interview. turned out the woman couldn't do a sketch, and only wanted the position so she had something to do all day. Samuel had simply told the woman that since they required accurate sketches working off a description, the woman did not meet the requirements of the job."NEXT" he called out, wondering who it would be next. hopefully someone that could actually sketch. Scirey would probably find the tale of that last interview pretty funny. They did nothing for her except make her nervous, so much in fact that her stomach churned, her skin was pale, she couldn't sleep the night before, she had sweaty palms and often times she stuttered.Scirey wanted to just turn around and walk out of the ministry. She wasn't even sure why she had decided to interview for the job. Sure she could sketch but was she really qualified? Besides she had a job. Sure it was boring, and she was tired of drawing text book covers but if she kept at it maybe she would be able to draw biographies. It was the story about how a sketch had helped law enforcment catch a murder of a child that really made Scirey apply for the job. If she was able to help another person describe who had hurt them then maybe she could help put another bad guy behind bars. It was her way of doing something to empower her self. If she got the job maybe she would find someone else who had been kid napped by the same person.Scirey didn't walk away, she wouldn't allow her nerves make her a coward. She bit her lip and squared her shoulders as she stood up and walked past the crushed looking woman. She stepped in and froze. The man sitting behind the desk was no other than her uncle Samuel Harcroft. Uh oh. She would certainly have to answer some rather personal questions on why she was there.Scirey managed to recover and quickly sat down in the chair in front of the large desk that seemed to create a gulf between her and her uncle. She clutched onto the folder that contained her sketches."Good day uh... mister Harcroft." She said a little unsure how she should handle herself. After all he was family but then again he was also her potential employer or fellow worker. She was relieved though that it wasn't Ciarra's father who was interviewing her. That would have been a disaster, especially since he had found the sketches Scirey had made for Ciarra. When she greeted him, his head snapped up fast enough to make people wonder if he had just broken the laws of physics. Scirey. His. Niece. " Good Morning Miss Riven. now, let's begin." Sam said, pleased that Scirey had figured out that formality was the best way of dealing with this situation. He would be ribbed about this for ages."do you have any examples of sketches you have done, preferably of human faces?" Samuel said, he knew that Scirey was good, but he had to document this interview better than most, since otherwise, he could easily be accused of neopotism. He could be quite funny sometimes about his jerky movements. She was far too nervous about behaving properly that she did nothing but sit on the edge of her seat. Scirey nodded and flipped open her folder. She thumbed through her stack of drawings. She pulled out her favorites of her friends and strangers she had never met before but had thought them interesting. Several were full body drawings and others where of shoulders and up and some were just heads. She had removed the one of her cousin Josh was the pile. She didn't want her anybody think that she got the job because she had drawn the interviewers son. " Thank you" he said, and looked over the sketches. they were very god, better than Samuel had thought Scirey could do. evidently, he was wrong. " These are excellent Miss Riven." Samuel said, handing the sketches back to Scirey, impressed. " So, Miss Riven, how did you find out abut the opening for a Sketch Artist?" Samuel asked, honestly wondering. he certainly hadn't said anything. She could tel by the way her Uncle skimmed through the drawings. He was finding fault with her work for every second he lingered on one drawing. Her work was a bit messy and some of the pictures conveyed the overall impression of a dream world. These were not the hard line sketches that was needed. No she had failed. She shouldn't have come. Now her uncle, and consequently her entire family would know of her failure. She had been expecting words of kind dismissal instead of praise. The little composure Scirey had slipped out of her grasp and fled. She wished she could have also runaway. She gaped at her uncle sure that a but was going to finish the sentence but nothing came. Instead a question was hurled at her. She stumbled a bit as she answered. She knew she should have said more. The question was just not how she found out about the job but why she wanted it. Her tired brain would not formulate the words her mouth needed to speak so she stayed silent, her tongue sticking to the roof of her cotton dry mouth. She was done for, yet there was some hope. Surely her shyness could be over looked? Maybe she could learn how, or if someone else asked the questions she could just draw. Maybe just maybe she would get this job."Uh, Ciarra, my roommate is an auror in training. She gave me the information." She looked at her uncle's eyebrows as she spoke. Her eyes flicked into his for a second before darting away like a scared mouse. He could tell because hello, he was an Auror, he had to read people's emotions sometimes. He knew she would be nervous, she was probably thinking there was no way she would be getting the job. Little did she know that Samuel had almost enough information to make his decision, and that it looked like she would be getting the job. Pretty much, the answer rested on her answer to the next question, since it was the one almost all the other candidates tripped up on. Or at least, the ones that's idea of sketches wasn't something a 2 year old could do. It was surprisingly difficult to get Sketch Artists, really." Miss Riven, why do you want the job? specifically, why do you want to be a Sketch Artist when you could probably get a rather more glamorous job with the skill shown in those drawings." Samuel said, the last part was said in an attempt to reassure Scirey it wasn't saying anything about her ability. While she wanted to just do nothing but paint and draw when it suited her fancy she could not. She did not live in a dream world where she had no obligations or worries. Nope. She had bills to pay and necessities like eating. While she might be skinny she needed to eat. It was not easy to make a living off of being a professional artist. She was trying though and until then well she just had to work.Too many questions at once. Scirey took a deep breath as she tried to convey her answer. She could do this. She could pretend she was talking one on one with her uncle. That she was far away from the confining space of the office. "I want to be able to help others sir. Help people who are attacked or stolen from in remembering who attacked them. If i could draw their faces then maybe someone else would know who they are and then the victim wouldn't be constantly looking behind their back afraid of being hurt again." She said her tone quiet but passionate. She didn't stutter as she spoke of the true reason she had come. She didn't really care about the money she just wanted to do something worthwhile. That was the perfect answer. Indeed, that answer pretty much made her the best candidate. " Excellent. I remember saying something very similar in my own interview, to become an Auror-in-training. I have to admit, most of the other candidates that could actually sketch were tripped up by that question. Now, where do you see yourself in, say, 10 years? Samuel said, the question was designed to see how they saw the job, if they saw the job as a stepping stone to something better, or if they even cared about the job at all. She was revealed that she had answered correctly. It wasn't so bad after all. Scirey thought hard about her next answer. Her parents didn't want her to pursue art. This job would help her learn how to draw what other people saw and not just what she noticed. It would help her be able to do commissions in which it was another's dream that she was creating and not her own. "I see myself possibly teaching others how to draw, so they can do well in this job. If I opened my own shop or studio I would still try to find time to sketch here part time." She liked the surroundings outside of the stuffy office she was stuck in. She also saw a lot of potential for her own artwork with in the Minsitry. Skip to next post Re: Intrview for A Part-time Sketch Artist ( Scirey) Reply #10 on April 20, 2009, 06:55:45 PM " Great. Congratulations Scirey, you did well, especially since I know you were nervous." Samuel added, relieved he could justifiably offer Scirey the job.
