Full Character Name: Raven Morinth Whitman
Character Birthday & Age: November 17th, 1992 (aged 16)
City & Country of Birth: United Kingdom (UK)
Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Pureblood
House & Year: Slytherin (6th year)
Wand: 11 inch Yew, Inflexible, with a Dragon Heartstring. Ollivander, when picking out her wand, was very surprised with her choice, but when he made his concerns known to Raven, she kicked him in the shins.
Physical Description: Raven stands confidently at 6' 3," her abnormal height a trait inherited from her father, who comes outside the Whitman family. Pale and lean, her body has little fat and mostly strong muscle, a result of her regular physical activity and hobby as a traceurs. Her face is more angular than most, but not thin. Her very dark, wavy hair is kept short, just beyond her neckline, but she plans on growing it out.
Raven suffers from Waardenburg syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that effects her appearance. Because of her condition, her skin is always pale despite the fact she likes to spend her time in the sun. Her eyes are also two different colors, the left being hazel, the right being a pale, almost white blue. Another change caused by her condition is the white forelock of hair that grows naturally, accenting her hair.
For her school uniform, Raven wears a white blouse, a gray vest, black dress pants that accent her long legs, and the normal robes and tie for a Slytherin. Her shoes are the only thing that violate the dress code; they're bright red, ankle-high converse. Occasionally, she wears green converse or gray instead, but mostly she wears red.
Personality Description: Raven is a very interesting person to get to know, but it's hard to get to know her when she's barely around, much less open for conversation. She's rarely seen by her fellow classmates, only really appearing at breakfast, lunch, and dinner or for classes. No one knows where she goes every time she disappears, but she does it all the same. If she sees someone she finds interesting she'll occasionally pop up in the strangest of places, whether its hidden in the rafters or dropping from the roof. If you're lucky enough, you'll get a few words in with her before she disappears off again.
Though she isn't seen often, when she is, Raven is known to be rather cynical and sassy towards others. Whether you're a complete stranger or someone she's familiar with, it wouldn't be surprising to hear her make some snappy remark about whatever conversation you were having (often insulting you or the person you're talking to), grin like a madman, and then run around the corner only to disappear again. In her third year, a muggle-born student called her the "Cheshire Cat," a nickname from the muggle tale of "Alice in Wonderland," and it stuck. Uncaring towards the feeling of others, she'll be more than happy to beat someone into a bloody pulp, whether its with her bare hands on through a nasty hex.
While Raven's personality is abrasive at best, once you get to know her, she's not that bad of a person. Sure, she's kind of a jerk, but she looks out for the people she cares about. Her flexible sense of humor makes her hard to anger, as she always seems to shrug off any kind of misfortune that comes her way. Her manner of dealing with tough situations is almost always care-free, but mess with her friends, and she'll be more than happy to make your life living hell. She's a kid, but she isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. Also, making comments about her physical appearance or deafness is another good way to annoy her, though she's less likely to actually hurt you. A bit of a pyromaniac, she will delightfully resort to violence when the situation calls for it.
A few notes: she has a soft spot for cute things, she hates useless people, she doesn't know how to react when people flirt with her, and she has an amazing voice when she sings, but she only sings when she's drunk or thinks she's alone.
History: From the moment Raven was born, she was considered less important than her older brother, Michael. Not only was he the next heir of a branch of the Whitman family as the oldest son of their parents (her mother, Theresa being from the Whitman family, her father, David, being from some other pure-blood family Raven never really paid attention to), but Raven was born deaf, cursed to live a life of silence thanks to Waardenburg syndrome, a rare genetic disorder inherited from her father, who was fortunate enough to miss the lack of hearing. Her brother completely missed out on the genetic disorder, so while the family cared for her as a Whitman, she was mostly ignored, often left alone. Actually, for most of her life, she rarely saw her mother, father, or brother. In an effort to protect her, they kept her in the house, but they never really paid attention to where she was, merely wanting to keep her out of sight as to not blemish the family name. Spending her time alone, she spend her childhood pouring through books.
As she got older, she grew more resentful of her parents and brother. At the age of ten, when she was with her family shopping in Daigon Alley, she sneaked away and wandered until she had stumbled outside of the world of magic into muggle London. As this was her first time in the muggle world that she remembered. Disorientated and stuck in a world she didn't understand, Raven found solace with a muggle girl whose brother was hearing impaired and also spent his time as a traceur (traceurs, also known as free runners, are people who practice parkour, which is traversing reas like this). With the help of her new found friends, she was able to get home again. It was her encounter with their pair of muggle siblings that began her doubts of the traditional "anti-muggle" feelings that she was supposed to have nurtured for her entire life.
Despite the fact she never told either sibling about magic or anything of the sort, she remained in contact with them and actually met with them on several occasions. While with them, she learned much about the world of muggles, and even became a traceur herself. Magical-wise, she entered Hogwarts at the typical age, reminded of her insignificance to the family when, upon finding out that she was in Slytherin, there was no massive congratulations from her mother and father as there had been for her brother Michael. But despite the fact she was mostly deaf, she was able to attend school rather normally through lip-reading and some experimental spells. During her years in school, Raven became more and more aloof from her fellow students, often not seen for hours on end.
Almost two years ago, back when Raven was a fourth year, tragedy struck the Whitman family. Her older brother, who had grown weaker recently, passed away from a rather nasty disease in the middle of the night. While her parents were devastated at the lost of their beloved child and heir, Raven herself was oddly detached from the situation. However, that all changed when she suddenly found herself next in line for the branch of the family and all of her parent's attention was devoted on her. At first, she welcomed the attention as she had been craving it for so many years, but she quickly grew annoyed at her parents constant meddling with her affairs. Not only was she no longer able to visit her muggle friends, as she was now "much too busy," she also suddenly had the weight of being an heir on her shoulders. The only benefit she found was the fact that she was able to get more treatment for her hearing problem.
Today, Raven still attends school under her parents expectation that she will create a proper image for the Whitmans. Thanks to a recent treatment, her hearing is almost that of a normal person's though she can't hear softer things and has a higher range that most. Still, she continues her old habits as if nothing has changed in her life since she entered the school, and if she has her way, it won't.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Raven was chosen for the house of Slytherin because of the fact she is a very cunning young lady. She always knows more than she appears to, and is rarely trusting of others until they have proven themselves in some way. She was also a prime candidate for the house of Ravenclaw, as she is extremely intelligent (though she doesn't act like it), but insisted to the Sorting Hat that she get put in Slytherin instead, because she "didn't want to be known as Raven the Ravenclaw."
Writing Sample: "Why hello there~" A silky voice called out from behind the first years, and they turned to look up and see a fellow student sitting on the roof, her legs dangling over the edge as she looked down at them, a grin spread across her face. Frozen in shock that someone would actually be up there, above them, they watched as she tossed her cloak down only to jump after it, descending ten feet only to catch herself in a roll and stand up as if nothing had happened. Grabbing her cloak as it drifted down, the sixteen-year-old threw it over one as she walked across the small law between her and the pair. "You must be first years~" Her grin widened to the point where it was almost like that of Peeves as she brushed a strand of white hair out of her face, mismatched eyes sparkling with amusement and delight. "And the two of you lost?"
"N-no!" The two Hufflepuffs stammered, not exactly sure how to react to the senior Slytherin before them. "We're just heading off to Potions!" With that quick phrase, the duo ran off, leaving a slightly bewildered, slightly disappointed sixth-year in their wake. Then, after a few moments of solitude, she began to chuckle, as if the whole thing had been a joke. As she did, a pitch black owl swooped from a nearby tree, landing on her shoulder.
"They ran away, Nyx~!" Raven exclaimed with glee, her laughter now down to a mere few snickers. "That's hilarious." The owl did nothing but ruffle its feathers before settling itself on her shoulder, scanning the area with yellow eyes. Taking a few moments to listen to her surroundings, the heterochromatic closed her eyes before picking up her bag (hidden behind a tree) and slinging it across her free shoulder.
"Well then, let's get going, shall we?"
Sum up your character in one paragraph: Raven is an athletic, nonchalant, cynical young girl who can pop in and out of your life at any time. She resents her family for ignoring her until the death of her brother, and despite being a pure-blood Slytherin, she's quite knowledgeable when it comes to muggle culture, and is indiscriminately sarcastic to everyone. She's a kind person if you ever get the chance to get to know her, but most of the time you don't get an opportunity, as she'll disappear whenever she wants to. As long as you keep your voice down at don't mess with the people she likes, you won't have to deal with her knocking a few of your teeth out. Together with her pet owl, Nyx, you can find her in the oddest of places.
