Physical Description: Elijah looked closely at himself, standing in front of the mirror. He never really liked spending a lot of time on his appearance, but it was needed. But whenever he would not have the time to do it, it would certainly not be the end of the world for Elijah. Moving a tad closer to the reflecting surface he put a hand through his hair, not that it changed anything. It seemed as if his hair had its own will, and that will included hanging loose around his head, ignoring any of the changes Elijah was trying to make. His brown, voluptuous hair hangs mid length, resting on his shoulders. It curls just a tad. Slightly sighing while giving up trying to fix his hair Elijah looked in the mirror, right into his own face.
His eyes are dark brown, you would almost not see the difference between his iris and his pupil. But even though they are so dark they still portrait a certain depth. Above his eyes are his brows, which are big and manly. His nose is a tad too big to his opinion, as if it centers the attention in his face. Licking his lips at the sight of them, seeing it remembered him they were feeling dry due to the weather, Elijah slightly smiled. He liked his lips. They were in good proportion to the rest of his face, in contrary to his nose. That big thing.
Straightening his t-shirt, as he normally
wore t-shirts, he took some steps back, to get a better picture of the whole thing. He is 1 meter 83, a tad bigger than his classmates, but not that he really stands out. 'I'm rather average in everything', crossed his mind as he took another look at himself. He never had the feeling he stood out.
Today he was wearing his favorite trainers, in fact he only had two pair of shoes, with his blue jeans. Sighing again when he realized this was all he could do, but even if he could do more he wouldn't; he had already spend too much time on this, he smiled. Of to another day of the rest of my life.
Giving the mirror with himself still in it a last glance he stepped out of sight.
Personality Description: Elijah smiles a lot, even when he is not that happy at all. He feels save behind his smile in awkward situations, which he finds himself in more often than he would like to. The main reason for these awkward situations might be that Elijah is somewhat insecure. Not that type of insecurity you would notice right away, it is more an insecurity that lures when he makes new friends. The bridge from an acquaintance to a friend is a very long one for Elijah. You could say he has some trust-issues. But when you are his friend Elijah will be a true friend, that would never give you up. Whenever you would be in trouble Elijah would be there right behind you. In some way Elijah does not believe everyone needs to be his friend, or that he needs to be nice to everyone, what makes him a tad closed off sometimes. Even though he finds making friends difficult he has found some true friends in Hufflepuff, which made him feel at ease at Hogwarts and his house.
Sometimes some people might interpreted him as offensive, what is actually quite funny since Elijah would not harm a fly. He is a nice guy, never trying to harm anyone. He is really honest though, and would tell you if something bothers him. Or answer your question honestly, instead of the ‘appropriate’ answer.
Sometimes you will see Elijah staring in the distance, his eyes reflecting deep thoughts. At these moments Elijah is probably over thinking his day and things he has done or things that had happened. This also reflects Elijah: he is an overthinking, careful boy. In his silent moments Elijah also thinks of new paintings he could paint, or new poems he could write. It might be his strongest feature; his creativity. This creativity sometimes makes Elijah a tad distant, as if his mind is traveling somewhere else.
Elijah is very motivated to get good grades, his favorite subjects being Charms and History of Magic. Many do not understand that History of Magic is his favorite subject, but neither does he expect them to. It is more like a hobby for him, which translates itself into a strive for good grades. When he found out he was in fact a wizard and that he was invited for Hogwarts he started reading about the history of magic as soon as he could.
Elijah also loves flying, as it offers him a form of calmness he does not experience in any other way. It makes his head empty and his heart full. When he has spent an day of flying he often is more creative and focused than he was before, as if his mind is a new blank sheet again. He also has a passion for Quidditch, but never tried out for the team. Just as he almost never lets people read his poems or show them his paintings. He would feel as if his deepest passion would be judged, something he fears. So he just flies in the dark, or whenever he is alone, just as his paintings and poems stand in a lonely corner.
Elijah has never had a girlfriend before. Not that he is that repulsive, or that all the girls are, but he has not paid that much attention to it in the past. When he turned sixteen however he started to see some of the girls in a different way tough, but he never found the guts to ask one out. He feels more at ease as just ‘a friend’ and he is sure all the girls see him as that as well. He has never felt sexy or charming, traits needed to be interesting to a woman.
History: Long, long ago a senior-lecturer and a policewoman met in London. He was a teaching and researching at the University of London when they met in a coffee shop around the corner. At that moment they were both in their twenties, he being 24 and she 21.They always tell people that they fell in love at first sight and they describe their love as a true fairytale. After a 2 year relationship they decided to live together and another year later they were married. Abel and Rachel Young (nee Grey) seemed the perfect couple to the outside world and they actually were as well. They were, and still are, a couple to be jealous of. After two years of marriage they both wanted children and decided that the big city of London was not appropriate to raise a child, so they started to look for other towns and villages where they might live.
After a long search the couple settled in Framlingham, Suffolk. Abel started to work at the Framlingham College, still doing research for the University on the side, and Rachel decided to become a stay at home mom. All was going well, except that they still did not have a baby. It took them another year, which was a very stressful year for both of them, to finally become pregnant of their first and only child. Nine months later a beautiful baby boy was born and they decided to call him Elijah Abel. They did try to conceive another child, as they always wanted a big family, but it seemed as they were only granted one child. After another of two years of trying they decided to have peace with only one child, and to spend all their love and devotion to him.
Elijah grew up and became a nice, slightly shy boy, which passion was history and reading. He got his first painting set at the age of six, and never stopped since. His mother often worried that he was too isolated with his paintings and poems, until Elijah joined the field hockey team at the age of 8 (after much, much encouragement from his parents), where he met his best friend Tom. From the first day they met they were inseparable. Since meeting Tom Elijah has changed for the better, being more social and gaining more friends. But even though Elijah changed, he always stayed like Elijah. Leaving Tom behind probably was one of the hardest things for Elijah when he went to Hogwarts.
Elijah once asked his parents if they ever noticed that he was different than the other children, since he was a wizard, but they said they never noticed anything. That he was just as the other children, his mother adding a ‘but just cuter!’ while putting her hands through his hair. That was, until Elijah made a book move at the age of nine. Or turn the lights on without a switch at the age of ten. Not knowing what to do with it Abel and Rachel just ignored those happenings, pretending as if he was still the normal boy they thought he was. The pretending had to stop though when Elijah reached the age of eleven and a letter from Hogwarts arrived at their house in Framlingham. Even though they were as shocked as they both were, they did accept it, as he was their son. His mother hugged him while saying she loved him unconditionally and his father just stood behind her and smiled.
After the day they had spent in the Diagon Alley, which was rather… exciting, Elijah got more and more concerned about Hogwarts. He did not know anything about it! How would he ever survive something like that! As the worries consumed him more and more he decided to start reading, so he grabbed the History of Magic book, as his passion was history, and just started reading. He read until the day he had to get on the train, and even then he still read. Sometimes he would take out his wand, which had a reddish glow to it, remembering what Olivander had said. ‘Ah , my boy. This is a difficult wand indeed. But very loyal. A nice wand. Nice wand indeed.’
His first five years at Hogwarts has been exciting, but most of all trusted. Hogwarts has become his second home. On the first day he got sorted into Hufflepuff, which stood for loyalty. He liked his house and the few friends he had made in the five years, he just did not like the color yellow that much. But that was just a minor detail. He seemed to pass his classes with some effort, as he never been the smartest of all, but he did pass them. Especially History of Magic seems to go very well.
During his stay at Hogwarts he found a new passion: flying. Although he would never try out for the team, he likes the feeling of flying almost as much as looking at his just finished painting. He likes the feeling of the wind going through his hair, and the freedom it seems to give him. In his second year he asked his parents a broom for his birthday and they gave him one, Elijah was ecstatic. Since then he has been flying much more, but always out of sight of others.
This year is going to be his sixth year at Hogwarts and as an early birthday present his parents gave him an owl, an Eurasian Eagle-Owl. Elijah could not been happier, since he had been asking for an owl since the first day he and his parents walked onto the Diagon Alley and he saw the pet store. Elijah named him Bubo, after his Latin name Bubo Bubo. The owl is still very young and for that, very small, but Elijah already read that the bird is one of the largest type of owls. As always Elijah is very excited to be going back to Hogwarts, even though it means leaving his family and his best friend Tom behind again. But even though that saddens him he is really happy to see his other friends again, because he never gets the chance to see them as much as he liked to in the vacation.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Elijah fits in his house Hufflepuff the most because of his loyalty towards his friends and kindness. Even though he dislikes the color yellow he loves the badger, which is the emblematic animal of Hufflepuff. Elijah works hard for the subjects he loves (somewhat less hard for the other subjects). He is not that patient though. And also a little geeky. But in the end his Hufflepuff traits way heavier than his other traits.
Writing Sample: Again it had been an exciting moment, the moment the big, red train towards Hogwarts took off. During his train ride he had been reading at first, as he had some history catching up with. In a cage above his head Bubo was sleeping. That bird was or overly active or sleeping so deep not even an earthquake would wake it. While Bubo made quiet hoot sounds Elijah concentrated on his book again. It was some muggle history he was reading, as to him it was more like a roman than an actual history book. Plus he found it interesting to look for clues that indicated that there was magic involved without the muggles knowing of it. For some reason there was only one other kid in the compartment, which Elijah ignored, who seemed rather nervous. ‘Must be a first year.’ Thought Elijah as he flipped a page. Some people might have talked to the boy, comfort him, but Elijah rather read and let the boy be. He was in no mood for little kids.
After he had read for 2 hours, perhaps three, Elijah got up, stretched and reached for his suitcase to change into his robes, be done with it. While getting the suitcase he woke up the owlet, who seemed happy to see the dark haired boy, probably thinking he was giving him some room out of the cage. Smiling at the bird he got his suitcase and quickly changed. Grabbing the cage and the suitcase he gave the first year a last glance as he strode out of the compartment, looking for his Hufflepuff mates. They were probably at the end of the train, as most of the older students preferred their quiet and being away from all the jumpy first years.
Sighing, as he could not find them, he walked into the last isle, the suitcase becoming rather heavy, he finally saw a friendly face. Common faces he saw everywhere, he intended to just smile at them, let them think all was fine so they would leave him, but this face he actually knew. Caitlin Norwood, sixth year Huff, just like him. He had already spend many classes with this girl and he could actually say she was like a friend to him. And when you were a friend most of the shyness disappeared. Almost all. Smiling, genuinely now, he walked into the compartment. He wanted to put up a hand as to say hi, but found both his hands holding something. So instead of body language he just used his vocals. “Hey there! Almost could not find you here all in the back. Hiding from the first years?”
He walked to the back of the compartment he put his suitcase on the luggage rack, happy to have finally relieved his sore arm. He sat down in front of her while placing the cage on his lap. Looking at the owlet in it he had to smile again, he had already fallen in love with the little creature. Opening its door the owl slowly crawled out, while hooting quietly. Looking almost nervous Bubo moved out of the cage onto his lap, before it started to stretch his wings. “I almost forgot. Look what I got for my birthday! This is Bubo.” He said towards Caitlin, while mentioning towards the bird.
Sum up your character in one paragraph: All together Elijah might look a little geeky, and to be honest he actually is a little. He is a nice, creative guy who loves flying, but can be closed off and insecure. His smile makes others smile as well and he likes his good friends around him. He might come over as offensive sometimes, even though he would never intentionally hurt anyone. He likes his house, despite the awful color, and Hogwarts is his second home, as it is for many.
