Wand:  A rigid, blackthorn wand with a decorated shaft, and a Dragon Heartstring core. Bought at Ollivander's.

Physical Description: "Shy" is a petite girl with naturally platinum blonde hair cut into a pageboy, a pale complexion, and piercing light blue eyes. She doesn't care about fashion, and usually wears whatever her mother has set out for her. Picking out her own clothes is usually disastrous, as she cannot match colors for the life of her (she's partially colorblind, but doesn't know it yet), and just picks things based on comfort. She likes walking barefoot, and often leaves shoes lying about.

Personality Description: Shy, as her nickname suggests, is rather shy. She is more at home around animals, and talks to them in her soft voice. Around people, she is very cold and stoic. Except around her friends. Well, if she had friends that's how she imagines she would act.

She will stop at nothing to get her way. This has resulted in several incidents at home, where her siblings ended up with dead fish or frogspawn in their beds.

Her greatest ambition, magically, is to become an animagus. She thinks it would be the ultimate way to convene with animals. Career-wise, she isn't sure exactly what she wants to be when she comes of age, but she's definitely considering the Department of Magical Creatures.

History: Shyleen was born into a pureblood wizarding family, the youngest of three. Her parents (Bastiaan Lieve Vanderzee and Veronique d'Aubine Vanderzee) hadn't expected another child, but were overjoyed with the new addition. She was spoiled from the time she was born, lavished with expensive toys, clothes, and jewelry. She didn't particularly care for the latter two.

As Shy grew up, her affinity for animals became apparent. In particular, she took a liking to snakes and other reptiles. She didn't seem to have any fears when it came to animals, and as a small child had to be rescued from quite a few scrapes. As she got older, she was a bit more cautious, but she still wasn't completely careful.

At studies, Shy succeeded at first. At least, until she realized she didn't have to work hard if she pretended to be book-stupid. She would study secretly, and let her tutors assume she was a dullard. It gave her more time to explore the woods near her family's estate, once they gave up on her.

Shy wasn't very magical as a child. For a while, her parents worried that she would be a squib. Until she inadvertently turned her sister's hair into snakes, that is. Her sister had to be taken to the hospital for the issue to be rectified. Shy found it hilarious. Her sister is afraid of snakes to this day.

When Shy's Hogwarts letter came, she bounced all around the house, excited. It was the most emotion anyone had ever seen out of the seemingly emotionless child.

While not outwardly apparent, Shyleen is very ambitious. While she isn't sure what she wants to do in her life, she knows she wants to be successful, and she intends to use her education at Hogwarts to the fullest advantage.

Writing Sample:

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Shy is a pureblood witch who is very shy, with a great affinity for animals. She's ambitious and will stop at nothing to become successful at life, though her idea of success changes daily.  She's been lazy with schooling so far in life, but intends to step it up with her entrance to Hogwarts.

How did they learn or hone this ability?: Shyleen first learned about her ability to talk to snakes when playing in the woods near her house. Everyday, she would go out to the woods, and talk to her slithery little friends.

Recently, she got a pet snake. She is nearly constantly talking to her.
Describe how the Special Ability influences their life.  What do they use it for?: Shyleen mostly just uses her ability to talk to snakes. She occasionally sends Seraphine (her pet) to spy for her, but there's not malice in her intent, unless it's to pull a prank on her siblings.
Write a description of what happens when your character is exhibiting this Special Ability: According to Shyleen, Parseltongue is the same as English, Dutch and French to her. Just another language, only she didn't really realize it at first.

Physically, the only thing that happens, is she seems to speak in a hissing, spitting language. Mentally, she understands and can speak with snakes.
