Summer Sets Hearts Ablaze and Minds to Mush

    Absit Omen News

    • Students return to Hogwarts and then some!

The Tetrawizard Tournament has arrived! With the start of the new school year in September, Hogwarts welcomes many fresh faces and the castle will host three foreign schools: Beauxbatons, Durmstrang, and Salem. Students will live together, eat together, learn together! It all begins after the train ride to Hogsmeade (the board is open for posting)!

Tournament students will stay in unique dormitories that were created for them over the summer using a combination of magic and elven elbow grease. Tournament professors are welcome to have living quarters in the castle as well, or remain in their Hogsmeade dwellings.

The Beauxbatons student dormitories are located on the fifth floor in the east tower, and are decorated in the French Neo-Classical style with blue, white, and gold accents.

The Durmstrang student dormitories are located in the dungeons and cellars and are decorated lavishly with black, red, and gold accents.

The Salem student dormitories are located on the third floor and are decorated in the American Colonial style with several cozy nooks and crannies.

      Choosing Champions

All students sixteen years or older are invited to become champions! Champions will be chosen before each challenge. If you wish to participate, post your student in the Goblet of Fire thread for the appropriate challenge, and/or post in the plot development challenge sign-up thread.

We'd love to hear your thoughts about what you'd like to see in the first few challenges! For more detailed information about champions and the tournament in general, please refer to this thread.

      Classes: What to Expect!

Important announcement about the class policy, class wiki pages, and class rosters! Signing up for classes will be easier since we've added a class sign-up section to the student biography form. You will now find class pages on the wiki, where basic class information and rosters are stored. And due to the Tetrawizard Tournament, foreign professors and Hogwarts professors are encouraged to work together to offer classes, seminars, and other fun events! Check out our Hogwarts Classes page for more detailed information.

      New Hogwarts Staff!

Since Analiza Snark's disappearance in Egypt this June, Herschel Reid, Hogwarts Governor, has been granted the position of Hogwarts Headmaster and the responsibility of the Tetrawizard Tournament.  His background in education includes the training of new members at the Ministry's Department of Mysteries, private tutoring, apparation licensing, and five years experience teaching Transfiguration. Reid certainly has the credentials; can he bring Hogwarts glory and fill Snark's spiky high heels?

After a year of expulsion, one student returns to the castle: Olivia Foley, werewolf. A new werewolf is welcomed: incoming first-year Alexandra McGee! Safety measures are in place and the students have the Headmaster's full support!

With Declan Ó Móráin's resignation from Hogwarts, Ignan Storm, Defense of the Dark Arts professor, has been appointed Deputy Headmaster!

Among the tournament staff, expect to see Headmistress Victoire Bisclavret from Beauxbatons, Headmaster Auberon Eisenberg from Durmstrang, and Headmaster Ferreole LeBeau from Salem. Check The Cast for a full list of tournament staff and students!

      The Dobby Swap: A Success!

Thank you all so much for your participation in AO's Dobby Swap! This December we had forty participants; more than half the site membership! Every year we're amazed at the creativity and thoughtfulness put into the gifts.

January 20th: Absit Omen's third Anniversary!

Yeah, you heard that right! We're nearing our third anniversary and we're very excited! Prepare for new games, highlights, an art gallery, writing prompts and challenges, and more to celebrate AO's awesomeness!

      Auror Case Files

The Auror Case Files have been moved to the wiki, where anyone registered on the wiki can help keep them updated! Aurors, criminals, everyone is encouraged to contribute. If you are more comfortable adding cases and information on the board, please do so in this thread, now located in Sign-Ups and Registries!

      Cbox Poll Results

Thank you for participating in the cbox poll! We've decided to keep it open to all members and guests at this time!

      Age Limit & Privacy Policy

In doing some research into how Absit Omen should conform to internet standards of safety and privacy, we've decided to establish a minimum age for participation and publish a privacy policy.  From now on, no one younger than 13 years-old may register at Absit Omen.* As for the privacy policy, we have made it clear how (or rather how NOT) your personal information (like your email address or any personal details you reveal in the course of being at AO) will be used.  Read it over here, and contact a Curator if you have any questions.

*If you are under 13 years old, do not worry.  We will NOT kick you off, but we would like to talk to you about ways to be safe online at Absit Omen.  We will not tell anyone how old you are! So please, if you are under 13, please PM Sarah/Niobe Thursby or Elle/Fauna Blake.

While we're talking about it, we would like to remind everyone that the c-box is public and most of the boards could be viewed by any of the 200 people who have ever had active characters here (or guests browsing!)  So please, be careful and deliberate about what personal information you choose to share! You'd be surprised what kind of details could build up over time.  Any part of your name, location, school, or work place is worth keeping under your hat.  If you have any concerns about privacy at AO, please speak to a Curator.
