With the wonderful sleep she had over the weekend she was prepped and ready for a long night. What with the rumours of the new professors, yes yet another, she was interested to see how this lesson would go. Of course Astronomy had never been one of her strong suits or greatest interests, but who knew this professor could make her interested. Doubtful though considering the last one had been gorgeous and left a little something to be desired about the class. Arielle though was beginning to question what the big deal was for working for her dearest aunt.Arielle had taken a seat close to her friend Jordyn but kept her eyes not on her friend and the previous prefect of Gryffindor, but on the other interaction going on in class. Civil was exactly how she was supposed to act towards Kit and so she would not make stink eyes like perhaps she might want to. Yes, Arielle was much better than and a far better prefect in her mind.As their new professor began she smiled, she was actually feeling a bit more interested in this class if it was going to leave the zodiac behind. Sure much of that was important to romance and teen angst, but she could learn about that from a magazine. She was far more interested in what Professor Trishna had to say, which would probably shock some as he was not nearly as dreamy as their last professor. She did thought lean over to Jordyn and spoke quietly, “Not as dream as previous.” She then moved back to her original position and got ready to take some notes. She was somewhat ignoring the other students until Callum had to open his ugly trap. Did he have to act in such a vile manner? She sighed and rolled her eyes. What was his malfunction? At least this professor had the decency to teach them something other than star charts. His class may have muggle theory but much of it would applicable wouldn’t it? Otherwise he wouldn’t be teaching it and wouldn’t be lasting long at this school. Her aunt would see to that surely. Of course everything had to be egged on my Joshua putting in his two cents. Perhaps from prefect to prefect she could give him a tip of shutting up in class when a professor was perfectly capable of defending himself. Of course people kept jumping in only to make Knight react with more stupidity. If he was in her house she would have shut him up right quick, but that was definitely more Jordyn’s job and even more so the professors. Of course Callum the great buffoon wouldn’t even listen to anyone.Who would have thought that Arielle would have been excited to take a test? Here she was excited about it just to get some piece out of the flowing stupidity she was unfortunately in the middle of. Leaning over to Jordyn again she sighed, “Why do we go to school with idiots?” Arielle went back to look at the test only hoping and praying that her head would not explode while she thought of the answers. There was a sigh of relief when she saw what it required her to answer. Multiple choice was a blessing, some of the time. She knew what a black hole was merely because she had read about it, but she would never admit to where or how she knew it as that was her nerdy side of her she did her best to hide. Then there was the question about the most common element, she wrote down one she assumed and heard of but perhaps she had ought choose B. She felt relatively proud about what she had answered and it wasn’t nearly as demanding as she thought it might have been. Megan slumped back in her chair, blushing at her outburst. She was definitely not happy with Knight's bias, but she didn't normally speak out about it. Combined with the verbal reprimand from Professor Trishna, she was embarrassed from her actions. Instead of looking up, Megan looked down at the parchment on her desk, doodling lightly at the edge of the paper. It kept her mind off of what was going on in the classroom, and hopefully away from any other embarrassing stupidity coming from her mouth. She looked up, when Professor Trishna stated that they would be having a test already in the class. Clearly, this Professor wanted to get going on their work immediately. Megan listened as the Professor talked about the exam that they were about to get. It would measure how much information they knew. Naturally, she knew that the Professor would teach more towards the middle of the road for the students. When she received her exam, she looked down at the page. Thankfully, her parents kept her on about the same bar when it came to her school work in the muggle world. Despite that fact, there were still a few things on the exam that she didn't know. But, at least she could answer a portion of the questions. Just as she was about to write out her responses, Megan heard Callum throwing a fit again, but chose to ignore it that time. She didn't bother to look up from her sheet even as he left, just continued on with her work instead. She never learned about what process powered a star, or the fundamental interactions of nature. She knew only what a supernova was, but not its types. But, the law of Thermodynamics, black hole, and the most common element, she was sure that she knew. After a few more moments, she finished writing her answers down on the sheet. Eventually the fifth year would learn relatives in high places could only take one so far in life. Kit choose to just feel pleased about spreading the joy of disinfecting wipes. She was further pleased when Xavier returned her semi-smiled back at her. Less so when he fell asleep at his desk. Oh dear. Hopefully the professor didn't notice, however that seemed unlikely with a test being handed out. Sure enough, Xavier was soon prodded awake. And like clockwork Callum threw another hissy fit. She thought carefully about how well she knew each of the proposed subjects before writing down her answers before taking the test to the professor. For once, Erin was on time, so this time he wasn't one of them and got to watch with mild interest the others who came in. It was more interesting than class, anyway. Xavier rushed in, all sweaty and winded, and Erin noted with only a tiny amount of jealousy his very apparent muscles. And since when was coming to class all bloodied okay? Whenever Erin did that, he got sent to the Hospital Wing.... or to an administrator of some type, depending on whose blood it was. He'd only stopped that more recently because the idea of being sent to his brother was the first truly effective punishment Hogwarts had been able to deal him in all of his five years here. 'Course, that punishment obviously wasn't as horrible for everyone, since Knight was still pretty consistently "disrupting class." Erin, who had no problem with class being disrupted and actually preferred it, only didn't agree with some of the things Knight had to say because, unlike Knight, he was not a pureblood with his own head up his arse. Erin didn't mind Muggles as long as they kept their hands off the kindling - it was all this new work he didn't like. The professor sent scraps of parchment flying out, and Erin caught his (now very crumpled) copy in his hand. Like Callum, Erin didn't recognize a thing on the list. Unlike Callum, he didn't make a scene about it - well, if shifting in his seat, glancing around the classroom, expelling loud whumps of air, and swinging his uninked quill rapidly between his fingers counted as not making a scene. Finally he scrawled Basic math, some geometry and algebra (that was the one with the x's, right?) at the bottom of his paper, marking all the other questions with a scratch through the c. Well, wasn't this class just going to be fan-feckin'-tastic. Erin wasn't too bad with math, but all this Muggle theory shite seemed like a waste of time to him. If no one else in the Wizarding world cared about it, how was it s'posed to help them after graduation? Which was, in Erin's mind, only a flimsy excuse to offer because he'd really much preferred doodling and sleeping in the previous professor's class. If the paper currently bouncing off Tawse's head was any indication, Professor Indian Name wasn't one for class-condoned slumber. She wanted to make an impression - preferably a good one, but lying about how much you knew was stupid. It was tempting, mostly because she felt at a disadvantage over Professor Trishna’s seeming distaste for the inexact science of Divination. As a Seer, Divination was one of the few things Sophie didn’t have to try to be good at - sort of like having big hair and being heard outside. She didn’t think he’d like to hear that though so, if she wanted to stay in his good graces she’d have start thinking and acting like Sasha. She was not sure she was capable of being that quiet or studious. Her forehead furrowed with little worry lines. She tried to accept that she just wasn’t as smart in some things as other people who shared her last name - her cousin Zoe for example easily trumped her when it came to most classes. When her confidence wasn’t on shaky ground Sophie didn’t much care, she knew what she was good at and played to her strengths but there was still some residual self doubt and a little bit of loathing left over from the holidays and she found herself wishing she could dazzle just one of her new professors with the big brain she liked to pretend lived under all her hair. Finally happy with her answers she flipped the parchment over and settled back in her seat casting a cautious glance around the room. She could hear Harper making noises under his breath and tried not to roll her eyes. Taking stock of those around her she noticed Jordyn seeming mildly distressed and a couple other concerned faces. So apparently she wasn’t the only one worried about how her answers would be perceived. It was kind of ironic, really, when she thought about it - never in her life did she expect to be even marginally jealous of a boy like Sasha Schlagenweit. She hardly paid any attention to him at all before Fergie decided he was the most dreamy thing to ever walk out of Ravenclaw. How times had changed. She knew Blake dreaded these joint classes as much as she did but she couldn't help but wonder if their relationship had changed some. On New Years she had stumbled upon a rare scene of the boys actually getting along. We're they only like that at home? Or had they finally figured out how to be nice to each other - and by that she knew she meant Callum being nice to Blake. A soft chuckle escaped her lips as Xavier was whacked over the head with his test. The little outburst of nonsense he said afterward wasn't helping any. She glanced up at Professor Trishna hoping he didn't think she was one of those airheaded girls that giggled non stop whether things were actually funny or not.She decided to turn her attention back to the test in front of her. Thankfully she actually knew some of this stuff. Her father, despite being a pureblood was fascinated by muggles and science but especially muggle science fiction. Ayla had spent many nights watching shows like Star Trek with her dad back home not to mention the study units she had done on the solar system in elementary school. With a smile curling her lips she filled out her answers. He looked over the test that had been sent over to him. He couldn't help but feel like he'd never be able to pull up his grade in this class. There was no way he'd get a decent grade if he didn't know the material and if he didn't keep his marks above an A average he was risking losing his spot on the Quidditch team yet again. He quickly scribbled down his answers and flipped his test over not wanting to look at what he wrote and risk the chance of second guessing himself. At least it was only a test to see how much they already knew in the class rather than a properly graded test. With his test out of the way his eyes scanned the room again. It was a shame they weren't having a joint class with the seventh years, at least then he'd have something to distract himself with. Then again he had no idea if the burly Quidditch player was even in the NEWT class for Astronomy. In fact he had no idea what classes he had nor was he entirely aware of the reason behind his sudden fascination with the older Ravenclaw. He had taken out his notebook and poised his quill for note taking, giving the impression that he was every bit the dutiful Ravenclaw that he seemed to be.Unfortunately, his brother's outspokenness, filled with snobbery and and a bunch of hot air, soon rose as high as the tower they were sitting in. He wished Callum would be more open-minded to new ideas, instead of always running back to the tenants preached by their family.Blake felt himself sinking down in his seat, desperately hoping that he could keep from being associated with Callum's rude behavior towards the new professor. Instead, he tried to focus on the more enthusiastic response of classmates like Sasha, who Blake had always admired for being studious and focused, traits every Ravenclaw should aspire to have. Other fifth years not in his house seemed receptive to the unorthodox curriculum, so any apprehension that Blake may have had quickly subsided. When the professor handed them the mini-quiz, it looked like jibberish on the paper at first to Blake. He was about to delve more pointedly into the questions when his brother made yet another outburst, this time declaring that he was not going to remain in class and learn this."Good riddance," Blake muttered under his breath. He returned his gaze to the paper and furrowed his brow in deep thought.Part of him had never felt so....inadequate as far as knowledge went, but Blake felt his stomach drop a bit as he began to tackle the questions. A few of them he simply did not know, but there were a few that he could answer or had some familiarity with, partly because he had some close friends who were muggles and they had talked about some of the concepts before. In fact, Blake recalled one point in November when he had noticed Sasha reading one of his muggle textbooks and the older boy had reluctantly allowed him to skim through some of them because Blake had shown a genuine interest (and not just because that news reporter lady had drawn attention to it). Thus, when Blake pushed the paper away from him after marking his answers, he released a sigh of relief. This was going to be hard stuff. But not impossible. Skip to next post

Skip to next post

Skip to next post
