[16 Sep] In An Attempt to Draw Blood (OPEN)

on August 14, 2022, 09:44:01 AM

Sunday September 16th, New Moon, 8:45pm

The St Mungo’s blood bank for vampires was a welcome sight to a vampire around new moon. Located within the hospital, it was one time some vampires got out amongst the usual wix rather than keeping to themselves. Cass Motley was not afraid of the usual wix, but rather wondered if she might be recognised for an autograph or two on the way.

On this occasion, she was particularly hungry, verging on hangry to receive her pint of blood. The coven’s supplies were closely monitored, and she wasn’t trusted enough yet to imbibe without supervision. She might nibble a patron, but they were just not doing it to sate Cass’ growing hunger each month. The Ministry were sniffing around her enough since the whole park situation, so she didn’t want to push it. The blood bank was a legit place.

“Motley, Cass Motley.” Cass gave her name to the person on the desk. There was a queue, as there always was around new moon. People didn’t want to claim their ration until they really needed it.

“Check again - M-o-t-l-e-y.” Her tone had changed from conversational to a firmer, louder one.

“What do you mean I’ve already claimed it? What are you on about? I’m right here. I haven’t been here since last new moon. That’s impossible.” Cass gestured to herself, a tall vampire with long, slow-growing blonde hair she’d never cut now. “There has to be some mistake.” As she spoke the final word, she flashed her long, sharp teeth at the person behind the desk.

“I didn’t sign for it - show me!” Growing more irate by the second, Cass could now be heard right down the corridor. The poor clerk turned the book to her, and there was her name, and right beside, one of her recognisable signatures.

“But I didn’t sign it!” She protested again, “someone must have forged it. I need my ration!” She gestured more and more furiously with her hands and looked back over her shoulder at the waiting line.

“Can you believe this?” She demanded to no-one in particular. Just hoping that one of her brethren were equally disgusted.

Sade was bored out of her mind and extremely frustrated, she was hungry and the long wait was doing nothing for her mood, however she was close to the front of the line, just one more person to go before she got her blood, even if she hated the bagged blood she would take it over nothing at all, of course she still needed to get home first for herself to heat up the blood to somewhat mimic fresh for her to not be repulsed by it.

But now the person infront was having problems, claiming she had not taken the blood this month, yet she was crossed off? She hissed in frustration and moved forwards to reinforce the woman as she tried to rally the crowd, and atleast for Sade it was working as she wished to be over quickly and she was not leaving until then so far it seemed.

"Why not just give her some blood? Its just after the new moon, we're all starving, even if she had claimed a bag she'd still be starving now." She barred her fangs, glaring down at the person with the book. "Would you rather have us starving and desperate or rather just give her some blood?" She said with some obvious hunger induced annoyance, her eyes never releasing off of the poor clerks.

She crossed her arms as she stared at them, her right foot tapping at the floor in frustration and impatience as she attempted to aid the other vampire, even if it was just to speed this godforsaken line up so she can rush home and curl up with some bad tv show and feed for the evening. "We all have important places to be that aren't here." She lied.

Why not just give her some blood? It’s just after the new moon, we're all starving, even if she had claimed a bag she'd still be starving now.” The vampire behind her clamoured forward, all teeth too. Cass didn’t recognise her, but recognised the hunger in her fellow vampire.

We can’t give double rations,” the blood bank clerk explained as calmly as possible, “if you step to one side I’ll see what we can do about an emergency ration… Next please,” Cass curled her hands in annoyance and stepped to the side. No good burning the bridge over the emergency ration yet. Curious, she listened in to the response from this other vampire, claiming their ration.

The woman was moved to the side, and Sade stepped forwards to the clerk, her frustration still obvious on her as she stared down at him, a deep hunger setting in on her at the promise of food soon, the chance to feed, her eyes barred down on them as she huffed softly, she was imagining the taste of them, if she was to right now sink down her fangs into him and consume.

It only lasted a second before she huffed and looked away, holding her head up high as she looked away almost as if she was too good for them, her nose in the air, in truth she was annoyed and hungry, she didn't want to smell them and get hungrier after all.

"Sade. And if I'm already crossed off I swear to whatever deity is out there..." She flashed her fangs as she spoke without fully meaning to, she would find a meal regardless, whether they helped her or not.

Sade. Was that a name so old it had lost a surname or had it been cast aside when they had turned? Vampires differed, what with the fog that befell them all on their turning. Some were completely different to their mortal, human selves, and others, like Cass, held on to a semblance.

I swear to whatever deity is out there…
“Save your breath, they either don’t exist or have a terrible sense of humour.” Cass retorted, arms folded rigidly. The thought of snatching the ration from the other vampire crossed her mind, but she didn’t need another stay with the aurors, and she was meant to be making more friends with fellow vampires now she’d joined Hooker’s coven. They didn’t necessarily agree with her brash, open way of protesting her right to exist. It was too mortal, too modern.

Her eyes still followed the clerk’s movements as keenly as an alleycat did a mouse.
“They’d rather I nibbled a patient than keep their records straight. Might be easier…” She raised her voice and huffed. “Wait until my listeners hear… and the coven…”

Sade watched the clerk carefully, watching as they retrieved her blood and handed it over to her, she huffed in annoyance as she took it from the clerk, her fang running over her lip, nearly breaking her own skin but just avoiding drawing any blood that might send the other vampires mad and into a blood haze, that was the last thing anyone needed right now, especially the hungry vampire with her.

"Good to see you aren't useless after all." She said to the clerk before moving towards the woman who was denied her blood.

She moved a bit closer, and leaned in to whisper in her ear, she had no clue who she was only just she was very vocal about their rights, something she didn't hate at the very least but it was entertaining.

"Take mine, I'll find my own." She whispered softly with a slightly teasing tone, as much as she hated the idea of preying on people, she knew a spot to aim for at the very least.

Cass looked down her nose at Sade, her expression unsure whether to be suspicious or curious.

“How very charitable of you, dear,” the wireless presenter grinned, all teeth. Quick as a flash she looped her arm in Sade’s like they were old friends. Then, with a flick of her long blonde hair she announced loudly to the clerk. “I’ll be back tomorrow, for that emergency ration you promised.”

She marched the other vampire down the hospital hallway away from the blood bank, and out of keen earshot of their fellow turned wix.
“Fresh always tastes better,” she uttered with a little chuckle. “What’s say we halve it, and go fishing?” That way if they got caught, she could blame it all on Sade…

She was somewhat surprised to hear the other woman wanted to join her, of course she wasn't that used to Vampires yet, or the Vampiric lifestyle, but she didn't expect someone to want to go hunting with her, she looked her up and down to be safe, trying to tell if she was being set up, but whoever this person was, she was likely much older and much better at lying then she would be of detection.

Slowly she nodded. "Alright, what do you have in mind?" She asked calmly, though there was a shiver to her, her already pale cheeks somewhat turning paler with the prospect of drinking from a person yet again.

"I'm Sade, and you are?" She asked with her accent piquing into prominence as she spoke her name, or so she still believed was her name, she could be wrong, horribly wrong, but she didn't want to spend much time thinking about it, it hurt too much.

"If we're to share a meal after all, its not often I take a girl out to a meal after I meet her."

“Cass,” the blonde vampire introduced herself, “Cass Motley, yes the one off the radio.” She gave the other vampire a curious look with a raised eyebrow at the comment. “This is dinner, Sade,” she spoke more cooly, “hold your excitement on the benefits past that.”

London skies were orange. The sun had set not too long before, but the city eternally glowed with sodium light and the light pollution was awful. Despite that, it was the vampire dawn, and the new moon. The cravings were at their peak, and the Ministry hadn’t decided on their consensual feeding policy yet. How tiresome for the living to continue to make decisions for the undead. The longer Cass socialised with the coven, the less she felt she had in common with the wix, despite being one only a matter of years ago.

“Have you a preferred pond?” Cass asked, flipping her long hair back over a shoulder. “What your tastes, female over male?” She inhaled as they approached the main road, a mix of exhaust fumes and humans. Each with a throbbing pulse. “The way I’m feeling I need someone they’ll forget.” She gestured long arms to the street. Despite it being a Sunday evening, there were still people about, hurrying home with newsagent shopping bags. Everything else apart from the pubs were closed. Muggles still held Sunday in some regard with their religion. “There’s a homeless shelter not far from here, they don’t miss them, and they’re forever turning up dead.”

Sade listened to her question but it perplexed her, certainly, was there a difference in if it was male or female? Was it a jab at her own sexuality and her preferences? She didn't fully know and she almost let it just stroll over her, but she felt the need to interject, to try to prove herself to this other vampire who seemed so much more...mature then her? She certainly seemed more experience then her.

"They taste the same? Better then those bags but...the same no matter what." She told her gently, she seemed hesitant to step out into the streets, though it was safe, she knew for a fact by the other vampire taking to it without burning up, she took the step out with her and sighed as she didn't immediately burn to dust.

"I know a spot, I've been there a few times...though I've not made sure they've...gone missing. a little worse for wear but they're around and I give them money or..." She hmphed softly at her.

"Are you suggesting as your...whatever, radio thing?" Her tone showed her lack of knowledge of her. "You kill people?"

They taste the same?” Sade claimed, and Cass shook her head in disbelief. How did this vampire fail to have the palette. Blood between different humans tasted so different. Even the stuff in the bags, but that was chilly, much like the vampire supping it. Blood from the vein was warm, body temperature and delicious.

You kill people?
“You pay people?”

The tall, blonde vampire was incredulous.

“No I don’t kill people!” She hissed, fangs on show for a split second. Not if I can help it. “And how can you think they all taste the same? Dear fangs, what have you been eating?” She shook her head again. “The Muggles should be thankful for us. Blood letting’s a healthy thing to do, and we give them such a rush. We’re a health kick!” She gestured with her hands and shrugged.

“Lead on to your place, before I get more hangry than I am already.”

"I don't pay! I just...when I leave them weak and pale on the floor it makes sense to give some form of compensation for their services..." She replied in a hushed tone, looking around the area a good spot was close by, her mind trying to come about with what to think of the other woman, she was not she was used to with meeting other Vampires, not that she knew too many others.

"And I try not to think of the blood as I drink it." She hmphed, sure that no one was watching she ran at a wall and pulled herself up, moving from piece to piece of windowsills, poles, extruding brick or whatever she could get her hands on to reach the top of the building. "Come on, faster this way, and easier to get a drop on them." She smirked down at her.

She enjoyed being on rooftops, and was good at climbing over them, after all parkour was French, she doubted the other Vampire could join her but if not, that wasn't Sade's fault was it? It was a pretty easy climb after all.

What a queer vampire this Sade was! All bold at the start, but when questioned she seemed to fold. Next she was scaling a wall, expecting Cass to follow.

“Oh darling, in this outfit?!” Cass gestured to her outfit which wasn’t exactly dowdy. The good news was that she was starting to get the hang of the old bat-form. So after screwing her face up she poofed into a wonky flapping form of a bat, which circled haphazardly four times before trying to climb, squeaking as it shot past Sade, as if its true form was screaming all the while at this experienced.

The bat landed on the roof of the building with a plop and appeared to be panting, pushing itself up on its little wing hands.

Sade watched as the woman...transformed infront of her!

Maybe it was more like a poof as she transformed, but she wasn't entirely sure what she was seeing infront of her, at first the other woman was there, the next there was a bat and it flew up towards her, although it did only just make it to the rooftop.

Sade moved over to it, inspecting it with some amount of confusion, could...could vampires transform into bats? She'd never seen it before, though she was still relatively new to the whole thing.

"Um...hello? Are you...are you...a bat now?" She asked, shifting uncomfortably as she felt dumb at the idea of talking to a bat.
