Obderdria was surprised with this new information. Professor Sandusky's wand and his wife's where off models. Like hers? She tried to remember what Lily's wand had been made of when Ollivander listed it but it all sounded normal. "Beech, eight inches, unicorn hair," she listed. "What makes it different?"

"But no, only just the one. I remember mine was from a man with a cart. He had the wands in a bucket, I first though he was selling twigs."

She held up Lily's wand with all her fingers. "It's so--sensory." The best description she could manage. "With the scent and the musical chimes when performs magic."
"The difference is in design,"  Ollivander explained.  "My uncle used unicorn mane, rather than tail in this wand.  His craftsmanship is equally valid but my designs revolutionized the entire industry of wandcraft.  There is nothing wrong with wands made not using my methods.  They are just becoming less common as my methods are being used more and more."

"The lavender scent comes from the box I kept it in,"  Leopold said.  "Lillian loved lavender."  He smiled sadly.  "She loved everything.  She was a very joyful person and my world is much darker without her.  I hope you will be able to put her wand to good use in the time that you carry it.  Use it to spread joy, Miss Pienas.  It's what she would have wanted."
Who know mane hair instead of tail hair would make that much of a difference? -- wait, what difference? -- Although Obderedria didn't have that much involvement with other wands before. She toyed with it some more, the tingling making her finger tips feel as if they were buzzing.

"I do too. Well, like lavender that is, it's such a nice scent." The wand must have been kept in that box for a very long time for the scent of lavender to be ingrained in it. Her cheeks grew warm as her professor told her to put the wand to good use and spread joy. It seemed like such a responsibility.

"I'll try my best, sir."
"I have no fear of that, Miss Pienas,"  Leopold said.  "I also have no doubt that Mr Ollivander will have your wand working for you in no time at all."  He leaned closer to Obderedria and gave her a conspiratorial wink.  "I hear he's something of a wizard when it comes to wands."

Ollivander made a small noise, whether it was in appreciation of the pun or derision was unclear.  "If there is nothing else, Leopold, there are a few other people I would like to have a word with before I return to London," he said.  "Thank you for the tea.  You must drop by the shop the next time you are in Diagon Alley so I can return the favour."

"Absolutely,"  Leopold said, shaking the old man's hand.  "I look forward to it."
