How to Join

1. Register
First, create an account for your character. Choose any username you like - you can change your display name later. You will receive a validation email to activate your account.

If you have more than one character, our SubAccounts feature makes it easy to sign in with one account.


2. Consider your character
Please read through the information below to choose a character type and get an understanding of how these character types work at AO. The forms are listed next to the character info links.

Main Character Forms:

• People of the wizarding world - form
• Hogwarts students - form
• Hogwarts staff - form

Supplementary Character Forms:

• Creatures and beings -(werewolves, vampires, etc) - form
• Criminals - form
• Special titles (Head of House, Order of Merlin, etc) - form
• Special abilities (Animagus, Seer, etc) - form

Other types (no form included, just for reference):

• Purebloods
• Canon characters
• Foreign-born characters
• Adopt-a-Character

3. Write a biography
Every character at AO has a bio which will be reviewed by the Curating team. Fill out the Character Biography Form for your character type and any supplementary forms.

Important!

• Save a copy of your bio off-site in case you accidentally navigate away from the form and lose your work.
• Keep the original formatting of the bio until it’s approved.
• Once you hit submit on the form, your bio will end up here. If it’s easier you can work on it there and just say WIP.

4. Bio Review
When you’re done, a Curator will move the bio to a private staff area for review. Characters are checked to make sure they fit with AO character guidelines and will work in the game.

No characters are rejected outright. Once we have finished our review, we'll send you a personal message to let you know if any tweaks are needed. Though we try to review biographies as quickly as we can, new member biographies might take our team a few extra days. Please be patient with us! We're excited to have you.
