Characters and Activity

Character Types

Primary Characters:
Each member starts out with one primary character. Once that character is established, the member may create up to 10 primary characters. More than 10, please check with the Curators. Members in good standing who have been active on Absit Omen for several years may create as many Primary and Secondary characters as they wish.

Secondary Characters:
Any member with an active primary character may create up to 3 secondary characters. Secondary characters should be thought of as background cast to support bigger plots on the site. To create a secondary character, make a new account and fill out the same biography form you would use for a primary. Curators will mark the biography as secondary on the account and within records.

Non-Played Characters:
Any member with an active primary character may create NPCs (Non-Played Characters). They should be thought of as background cast. To create an NPC, simply include the NPC in your posts with your played characters. You may also add them to the Wiki NPC Category. If you wish to promote an NPC to a Primary or Secondary Character, please submit a biography form.

Retired Characters:
Writers may retire Primary and Secondary characters permanently once the character's story has come to an end. Primary characters may also be retired if they have been inactive for at least 4 months. Please contact a Curator to retire a character.


Activity
There is no minimum required participation. Write as much or as little as you wish. A character’s activity is tracked primarily to keep things organized.

• A character is Active if they have posted in a role-play thread in the past month.
• Periodically the Curating team does an Activity Check, and characters who’ve gone quiet are marked Inactive. You’ll get a message letting you know.

Inactive characters are still part of the story, however, if they hold a singular spot in the Cast of Characters (like a Hogwarts Professor or Ministry of Magic Department Head) an active character may take their place with the consent of the Curating team.

To become Active again, just start posting! Curators will take care of the rest.


Changing a Character

• If you would like to make an in-character addition or change to your character (such as becoming a creature, becoming a criminal, getting a new job, discovering a special ability, or being awarded a special title), please use the appropriate Supplementary Request form.
  
  
• If you would like to make major changes to a character's history or personality after they have been approved for play, please use the Character Revamp Request form.
  
  
• If you would like to change a secondary character into a primary character (or vice versa), please contact a Curator.  We'll let you know if anything needs to be added or changed in their biography.
  
  
• If you would like to retire a character, please contact a Curator.  We will update the rosters and can help you figure out how to tie up any loose ends.
