Messages - Charlie Weasley

Charlie hadn't been at this particular establishment in a while. He liked the atmosphere though, it helped him forget about his family for awhile and to drink something more satisfying than butterbeer.  Sometimes he did not understand his mother, yes, even after all these years, he still did not know why she still treated her kids... well.... like kids.

He had been living on his own before the war started for several years and liked his freedom a lot. However, he tried to visit his mother quite often now that he had taken on a more desk-type job at the reserve in Romania.  Today had been especially tiring at his childhood home. So here he was and he sat down at the bar without noticing who was next to him until he heard his name.

He turned his head and saw who had said his name and for a moment he couldn't place the gentleman that said it.  Then it clicked.   Spectre, one of the few who refused to come aid in the war when he'd gone recruiting.  It still got on his nerves that some of those in high positions today were little more than cowards when the war was going on.

Charlie thought for a moment, before taking a breath and replying, "Spectre."

He then turned back to the drink he had ordered and took a drink from the slightly smoking glass.[1]
 1. I don't know what he'd drinking, but I figure there's a drink out there that's strong and smoky???

If Charlie noticed the lack of interest in the man's willingness to talk about his brother, he didn't show it.  Everybody felt different about family. So he jumped right in on the topic he most loved to talk about - - dragons.

"Well, we've got a few nesting mothers, Hungarian Horntails, so the reserve is treating a lot of burns right now, and I didn't hear about an epidemic, so I guess not."

 1. The shortness fairy has taken ahold of me.

Charlie chuckled at the thought, "Mum would track me down and drag me home by my ears if I missed Christmas with the family." He'd seen her do it to, to Ron four Christmases ago.  He'd not wanted to come as he'd had a bad month at work and didn't want to ruin the mood by being sullen and moody the whole time.  Molly had set others to keep working on the food and she marched right through the floo and came back ten minutes later with a red-faced Weasley by the ear.  He still laughed at his brother for that.

"Speaking of family, how's your brother Shay?"

Brought out of his thoughts by a somewhat familiar voice, Charlie turned to see who was talking to him.  "Bagnold, is it... yes."  He shook his head to clear it of any last stray thoughts of what little Rose might like for Christmas and focused on the man, "Me, tired of Romania, I don't think that will ever happen.  I like my dragons too much." he said lightly with a small laugh.

"I've been sent with some reports, the owls just take too long, so they send me out."  He looked around the room, "This way, their reports come in on time and I get to spend time with my family before going home."

Charlie had only been back in England for a few hours and already he was missing the charms they had at the reserve to keep things the same temperature all year round.  As he walked through the halls of the Ministry he almost wished he had worn his warmer cloak, the one with all the warming charms on it that he rarely wore at the reserve.  Instead he was wearing a sleeveless shirt under a long robe that was open at the front.  He hated the cold with a passion.  Nevertheless, he was here for a reason.  He hadn't even been home yet to say hi to his mum, he'd come straight to the Ministry, put on that ridiculous visitor's badge, had his wand checked and now he was finally at his destination.  Level Four.

Some of the people that worked up here weren't too bad, but a few could get under his skin pretty fast.  In one hand he had it rested on the lightweight bag that held all the reports for the last few months  - nesting mothers, new dragons, problem dragons, escapes, etc., and the other hand was in the pocket of his robes, touching the letter he'd received from one of his nieces. Rose had written him in her childish 5 year old writing to pretty please bring her something cool from Romania.

He stopped inside the offices of the Creature Division and waited to see if he could spot one of the people he could actually stand to talk to.

City & Country of Birth: Ottery St. Catchpole, Devon, England
Blood Purity: Pureblood
Alma Mater: Hogwarts, Gryffindor Alum
Job/Position:  Dragonologist

Wand: 12" of Ash with a Unicorn Tail Hair core

Physical Description:
Although being the second oldest child, Charlie has always been somewhat shorter than all his brothers.  Standing at just shy of 6 ft tall, he was not as tall and lean as his brothers, but rather shorter and more muscular.

He has the trademark ginger hair of the rest of the Weasley clan, but as he rarely does anything with it, it tends to be rather wild.  Lately it has taken on a bit of a curl and usually looks windswept from all the time he spends  outside.

His eyes are a bright blue, they stand out with his light skin.  Although he spent most of his time out of doors he never tanned much, that and the fact that he is covered in freckles.

He has various small scars left over from burns that have healed and the occasional scrape from a claw when he got too close or when he got too close to the scales of a sleeping dragon.

Personality Description:
Charlie loves to be outdoors, so he generally loves doing anything that involves being in nature.

While he is genuinely happy and pleasant to be around most of the time, he can get fiercely protective and angry if someone tries to hurt his dragons.

He has a stubborn streak a mile wide and doesn't like to listen to authority figures who he doesn't respect.

On the other side though, if you earn his trust and respect you have gained a loyal friend for life.

He has been known to imbibe in any kind of alcohol when he's not working, and if he drinks too much, anything and everything that is on his mind tends to spill out - not unlike Hagrid actually.

History:
In the small village of Ottery St. Catchpole Charlie Weasley was born to Arthur and Molly Weasley, being born just two years after his older brother.  His childhood was fairly normal, he was a happy little boy who loved to play outside with his siblings, fly a broom around their pitch in the orchard, and spend as much time as he could outside.

When he got his letter to Hogwarts he was truly excited to be away from his crowded home, only to get homesick the first month he was in Gryffindor tower because at night it was far too quiet with no one shouting at each other and no whispering from the twins.

Doing well in school he made Seeker his second year and then Prefect his fifth, leading Gryffindor to win the Quidditch Cup several times, in fact for a fleeting moment he thought to play professionally when he graduated, but he kept venturing into the Forbidden Forest and learning about all kinds of creatures that he changed his mind.

After graduating, he upset his mother by travelling all the way to Romania to study dragons.  He didn't necessarily want to upset the woman, but at the moment, it was the best opportunity for him as they had quite a selection of dragons to study.  It didn't take him long to rise through the ranks to become one of the senior dragon handlers.

During the war, he didn't visit home often because although he had joined the Order of the Phoenix, Dumbledore had asked him to try and recruit overseas, so he mostly stayed where he was and used his many connections to see what he could do.

Closer to the end of the war, he came for Bill's wedding to Fleur and then once more to help end the battle at Hogwarts.

Now he lives in Romania at the reserve full time, but has taken on a more diplomatic part of his job.  Because of his siblings having children and Charlie living so far away, he's taken it upon himself to volunteer to take things to the Ministry so he can pop home and visit his family. Taking his time to do so often because after losing Fred, he doesn't want to miss out on any more than he can help.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
He still works with dragons, but now he is on hand to take anything to the Ministry in London so he can stop by and visit his family before going back to Romania. Mostly paperwork that would tire out the owl sent to carry it. Because of this, whenever he has to make that trip, the reserve gives him a few days extra so he can catch up on all that is going on with his siblings and parents.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
Charlie has had a deep love for animals since the day he started walking.  He's always looking to learn more about animals and especially dragons - anything about dragons.  Studying them for most of his life, he was glad he could make that his career and he would never want to change that.

Writing Sample:
see any of my character's stuff.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Charlie is an outdoorsy,  fun-loving guy who will drop the happy-go-lucky attitude in an instant if he has to. Whether it's protecting his family or his dragons (which he sees as the same thing some times) he is fiercely loyal and will do what needs to be done first and think about the consequences later.
