Messages - Kyson Cavanaugh

Kyson was amused by the collection of students that didn't actually take the class who were currently in attendance. He didn't blame them. This was bound to be an entertaining night. If he wasn't already taking the class he would have snuck in with them himself. He simply wondered how long it would take Captain Shirtless to realize he had a few too many students amoung him.

As they were instructed to find partners Kyson caught sight of Rigel making a beeline for Ayla and shook his head. Clearly he hadn't listened to his warning about the Hufflepuff. He was simply just going to have to let him figure out the hard way the girl was more trouble than she was worth.

Kyson moved to his own favourite person to torment partner with. He leaned into the Ravenclaw with a smirk, "I bet if you ask nicely the Professor will let you hold his hand." That was when Kyson noticed the person on the other side of Kelvin.

His expression twisted. One of the few things he had enjoyed since term started was the few classes he didn't share with Pepper and here she was encroaching on his territory, and stealing his go to partner!

"Oi! What the bloody hell Pepper?! You don't even take this class!" He made sure his voice was loud enough to carry across the gathered students, not to be drowned out by the approaching herd.

Kyson had been somewhat subdued during the Welcome Back feast. He had been sitting with friends at the Slytherin table doing more listening than talking which was rare for the young man. He had picked at his food without really enjoying much of it. He was still having a hard time getting the taste of slugs out of his mouth. He was sure once it passed he'd be back to normal. For now he was keeping to himself, which none of those around him really seemed to mind. Most of those in his year had heard all about what had happened on the train with Zeta and Rigel.

Speaking of Rigel, he looked up when the older student stood on his seat to yell across to Tim. The exchange made him chuckle. Though he caught something else in it. Rigel's gaze seemed to have moved passed the Ravenclaw table to a commotion at the Hufflepuff table. He caught sight of Collins himself, smiling at her housemates and looking over at the Slytherin table. At first Kyson assumed that she had been looking for Alistair but he realized her own emerald gaze had locked with Rigel's.

Kyson let out another laugh and shook his head. He nudged Alistair who simply rolled his eyes at him before addressing Rigel himself, "Bad idea mate. Don't even think on it. She is bad news."

Sweet Salazar, Rigel was being emotional.

Kyson would have averted his gaze and tried his best to ignore the sudden heart to heart he had stumbled into. Then the older Slytherin went and put his hand on his shoulder, thumb caressing his collarbone. All thoughts of protest went out the window. Rigel's words were falling on deaf ears as all the hormone riddled teenager could do was focus on the sudden, comforting contact. Kyson swallowed hard, blinked slowly and found that he had raised his own hand to place atop Rigel's.

As his friend withdrew, Kyson resumed looking out the window. He knew he should say something in return but his head felt fuzzy and he still had the unmistakable stink of slugs in his mouth, "thanks mate." Was all he could muster, his own voice thick with sudden emotion. He knew he probably should have said more but he was having a hard enough time trying to remember what had been said to him in the first place.

Kyson sat for a long while, his arms still crossed. He thought over Rigel words and begrudgingly agreed with them even if he wasn't about to say it aloud. In fact he had to actually bite his lip to keep from retorting, 'yeah, well, that's just like your opinion, man'

He finally unfurled himself and leaned forward instead, "I'm not apologizing to her." He started off firmly, "And I'm not wrong about Foley. Schlagenweit could have been killed." He had no real loyalty to the former Ravenclaw. He couldn't even remember if he had ever even interacted with him but his 'brothers' had been close with him and that was the sort of loyalty Kyson clinged to.

He leaned back again, "I am sorry though, not to her, to you." He glanced out the window, it looked like they were getting close to the little Wizarding Village outside the school, "I'm a dick, okay? I know that." He hesitated for a moment, "I just - get agitated when I have to see him." Kyson had previously though briefly mentioned having seen his father over the holidays, "I guess Zeta throwing the whole SAWS stupidity in my face so soon afterwards set me off."

Though he didn't say so, he had been hoping that Zeta would have known better. While the pair weren't close by any stretch of the imagination she had been present for the Boggart incident. You'd think after finding out that someone's greatest fear (allegedly) was werewolves you'd steer clear from asking for their help in fighting for said werewolves rights.

Kyson huffed and crossed his arms over his chest looking like a great big child who had their favourite toy taken away, "C'mon mate, you're really going to side with her?" He motioned towards the door to the compartment which Zeta had recently retreated through.

He didn't like being told that he was wrong, especially when he had good reason to believe that he was right. Even if he was wrong about throwing all werewolves into the same basket, he certainly wasn't wrong about Foley. There were plenty of other werewolves Pepper could have used to gain sympathy. There was that Albino kid from Hufflepuff and wasn't the one with all the hats a werewolf? She was as harmless as they came and a another Hufflepuff (seriously what was with that house?!) Heck, she could have even used the Headmaster to make her case. He knew that the original SAWS had been created because of Foley being expelled but she hadn't exactly done the group any favours.

His expression was sour and he crossed his arms again, adding a level of sass his sisters would be proud of, "Well maybe if you had been orphaned by a werewolf you'd feel differently about it all too." He knew he was pulling the victim card and he also knew that Rigel knew him well enough to call him out on his bullshit. His father wasn't dead (though he might as well be) and Aunt Sheridan had been a fantastic mother, he had more family than he could shake a broomstick at but it was easy to play 'woe is me' with the taste of slug still in his mouth.

Despite himself and the anger that was still writhing inside him Kyson cracked a little smirk. He couldn't believe the gall on Rigel. He knew he definitely couldn't have stayed as calm as the older student had - which he had already demonstrated - but he also didn't think he could have followed it all up with asking the girl for dinner. He doubted that Acrux meant it as a date but judging by Zeta's response and subsequent gesture, she may have thought it as such.

He looked to his housemate a little astonished, "Are you really going to keep her wand?"

He didn't think that would last very long. Kyson pegged Zeta as the kind of girl that would go directly to the Headmaster and demand he make Rigel give it back. If she didn't plead her case to a Prefect or the Head Students before they made it fully to the castle. Even after having just been hexed by said wand Kyson didn't think it was a good idea to keep it separated from it's master for too long. It wouldn't like it, wands were weird like that.

For a while the rest of the world melted away. Kyson had his eyes squeezed shut and he did his best to tune out what was going on around him. He was only vaguely aware that Rigel and Zeta were still talking. Every so often a big goobery slug crawled it's way up his throat and forced it's way out his mouth, plopping to the floor.

He fumbled in his pocket for his wand. He pointed it towards himself as best he could and began to swish it. He wasn't able to speak long enough to recite the incantation he needed. He concentrated hard and tried his best to cast it non verbally. By the fourth attempt he managed it, the jet of light escaping his wand.

Kyson took a deep breath, steadying himself and nodding to Rigel that he was good. He narrowed his eyes as he regarded Zeta. She was currently unarmed which meant he wouldn't be able to retaliate right away. He'd have to bide his time but there was no mistake she would pay for this one. Eventually.

Kyson had a profound talent for pushing people's buttons. Even when he wasn't expecting to. Somewhere down the road he'd take note that Foley was a big red button for Zeta. For now, he'd stick to his guns. Werewolf students were a ticking time bomb and there was no way he was going to let her use the disgraced Hufflepuff as a poster child. Especially when her response to the truth, as brutal as it was, was to hex him.

To say he hadn't been expecting it was an understatement. He hadn't even reached for his wand when it felt the hex hit him full in the chest. A split second later the air around him shimmered and he could tell someone else had managed a shield charm just a little too late.

He felt himself swell, both with a burning rage and the bellyfull of slugs she had bestowed upon him. Kyson was on his feet before he could think. The green tinge to his skin from the hex fighting with the flush of rage, "HOW DARE-" but his tirade was cut short as a mouthful of slugs came spewing out. They bounced off the shield charm and splattered heavy on the compartment floor.

"YOU LITTLE B-" more slugs, more splats, "I'LL G-" retch, splat, thud.

Kyson resigned himself to a single rage fueled scream at the disarmed watch, spraying even more slugs against the shield charm before flopping back into his seat, doubled over and letting the hex run it's course. He was almost as angry with himself as he was with Zeta. He should have reacted quicker. He should have seen the hex coming. He even knew the counter curse but he couldn't keep himself from retching long enough to cast it.

Kyson perfected his look of lazy disinterest as Zeta pompously numbered off the group's "numerous" achievements, "Cheers. You reinstated an unstable werewolf after she had attacked a fellow student. Oh and remind me how that went again? Prefect, wasn't she? Head Girl? Shining example of the brilliance of Hogwarts Education?" He turned to looked straight at her, the rare mean streak that made him seem so at home with the other Slytherins showing through, "Oh that's right! She dropped out. Brilliant achievement that one."

He look over at Rigel as he had gone off about Pit Bulls and werewolf pups. Really what were you supposed to call them? They weren't human anymore. Not really. No matter how much Zeta had deluded herself.

He went back to his lazy position, stretched out in his seat once more, "Trust me Pepper. If anything, I'm proof your little club is a waste of time."

Ky had been sitting in a compartment with his friends (re: other Slytherins) recounting their holiday experiences and regailing each other with the wild stories of what they got up to outside of the watchful eyes of their Professors (and in some cases their parents.) Ky had spent the holidays with his Aunt and Uncle, rough housing with his 'brothers', and teasing his little 'sister'. On Christmas though as his adoptive family spent time with other relatives, Kyson stayed at his Sisters' apartment and had even consented - through much coaxing from Berkeley - to visit his father. He had mentioned this part briefly to his friends with a knowing look and none of them pressed him for details.

The awkward moment had passed and they moved onto stories about New Years before they were interrupted by Zeta. Ky took her flyer and examined it with as much non-chalance as he could muster. There was a slight chill down his spine as he looked at the howling wolf.

He passed the flyer off to one of the other kids in the compartment having no interest in holding on to it, "is that really necessary Pepper?" He gave her a smirk, "I mean, how much can students really do for werewolves anyway?"

It wasn't like they did anything for themselves except play the victim, he thought while thinking back to the state of his father's place. The apartment was in disrepair and Kevin Cavanaugh, once a respected and revered Auror, had become even more of a shell of his former self. He refused to groom, basically refused to eat. Kyson felt they were lucky he was even wearing clothes when he and his Sisters had visited. All he did, all he had done since becoming afflicted nearly fourteen years ago, was wallow in his own misery.

Ky dramatically rolled his eyes as Watkins corrected him on the type of spell they were using. Sure, suck the fun out of it. However the Ravenclaw consented to have him as his partner so it wasn't all bad. The pair moved to an area further away from the cluster of younger students. Mostly for their own protection. Who knew what kind of spells or misfires were about to go flying through the room.

He squared off against Kelvin, his stance that of a traditional duelist and his muscles taut. They were just supposed to be practicing the disarming charm and not any shields. Kyson found this surprisingly hard. For the sake of practice he had to actually allow Watkins to disarm him.

As the spell fired, Kyson flinched. Every instinct in his body told him to protect himself, to the point where his wand tip even glowed with an unspent shield before jumping out of his hand. He watched it twirl up in the air before deftly catching it again.

"Cheers, mates!" He called to his partner before readying himself to return fire.

Dueling club. What a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. Kyson had been talking about it non stop ever since it had been announced. Afterall any Auror worth their salt knew how to duel. It was pretty much a prerequisite of the job. By now Kyson could disarm people in his sleep but it didn't hurt to get more practice in, especially the non verbal kind. He often found his mind was so busy that when he went the non verbal route his wand tried to do more than one spell at once.

He had been off to the side, behind some first years with his 'brothers' but when it came to pairing up, the Ravenclaw twins had chosen each other leaving him behind. For a moment he contemplated asking his 'sister' if she wanted to join him but Cole was engaged in a knot of little Slytherins and he didn't think Aunt Sheridan would forgive him if he got her hurt.

He looked around wildly and his face split into a wicked grin when he spotted another fellow sixth year looking paralyzed by the thought of interacting with others. Kyson bounded across the Great Hall and threw an arm around Kelvin's shoulders, "It's your lucky day Watkins! You get to try and hex me in the face!"

Kyson watched the Hufflepuff girls run off for a trunk and he scrambled through the crowd together as close to the door to the bathroom as he could. His previous bravado no where to be found. Normally he would have charged in alongside the Professor but he was still pretty shaken from the first time he had so boldly done so.

He jumped with everyone else and felt his fear rising again. When Professor Onuris reemerged, Kyson was confused by the smile. What could he possibly be smiling about?

When he exclaimed that it had been a Boggart, a wave of relief was visible through the gathered students. Some were laughing, most smiling. Everyone seemed to feel as if a huge crisis had been diverted. Kyson, however, was feeling anything but relief.

His chest had tightened and his face heated up. The rush of adrenaline from earlier was only serving to fuel his emotions, "That's, that's not right . . ." He swallowed hard and violently shrugged off a fellow Slytherin that had touched his shoulder to tell him it was all okay now, "It's not okay!" Kyson had just faced his greatest fear and he was not okay with it, "I am NOT afraid of werewolves!" He could feel his face heat up even more and could only imagine how red he had turned, "I'm not! My da-" He swallowed hard again, "My Dad's a werewolf. I'm not,  - I'm not afraid." His voice trailing off as it began to fail him.

Kyson's smile was wide as he managed to get the reaction he had been hoping for out of the Prefect. However he couldn't revel in it too long as they were beckoned toward the water.

He almost choked on his retort, summoning all his willpower not to say something about Kelvin liking to watch. He had teased the kid enough for now and truth be told he was actually eager to get into the water.

Kyson waded in and approached the creature. He had spent a few summers surfing off the coast of Australia and was used to being in the water but he wasn't sure how well those skills would translate to riding a Hippocampus. Despite looking like a horse from the chest up it was a little awkward mounting her. He wasn't entirely sure where to hold on and he wasn't given much time to figure it out.

Ursula took off almost as soon as Kyson had climbed onto her. She picked up speed and started dipping in and out of the water, taking her rider with her. By the fourth time she dived into the water Kyson lost his grip and the creature took off without him. Moments later he burst from water himself tossing back his long shaggy curls and sputtering water.

Treading water Kyson let out a whoop and watched Ursula come to the surface again, whinnying as if laughing at him. He playfully splashed her before turning back to the class, "that was wild!"

"Oi, it was a Werewolf!" Kyson shouted back while jumping to his feet before remembering he was wandless. He made a mad scramble for the length of wood, moving around some of the other students before straightening up again and looking to his accuser, "Don't believe me fine, but I know what I saw!"

He waved in the direction of Professor Onuris, "But why don't we have Capitan Shirtless check it out for us?" Kyson wasn't really about disrespecting Professors but he was pumped full of adrenaline and scared out of his mind. He wasn't exactly thinking straight. Besides if he didn't want to gain himself any nick names, he shouldn't have taught a class topless!
