c/o Harper Graves
Department of Magical Law Enforcement
Ministry of Magic
London

Mrs C Bombay
42 Barnsley Lane,
Broxwood
Herefordshire
England
26th December, 2011

Lawrence,

Unfortunately, I can see where my daughter obtained her criminal, abnormal and deviant traits from. clearly I should have kept you away from her as a child.

If you wish to debate werewolf rights and whatever other rubbish, do it with your cellmate when they leave you to rot in Azkaban.

Don’t contact me again.

Cynthia

Letter published 22nd December

Dear Ms Thursby,

What on earth has the Ministry of Magic come to? Law Enforcement and Beast Regulations are laughing in the face of wizarding kind.

I must say that I was thoroughly disgusted to read about the ludicrous leniency given to Mr and Mrs Grant, considering their total disregard for the safety of their child and the public. They are nothing more than criminals, and should be treated as such.

But it would appear, that our ministry has gone soft, and is now siding with the beasts that howl at the moon. Even a wizard who is supposed to be protecting us from these criminal beasts is now choosing to support those who break the law and endanger us all. Kurby Bagnold needs to be sacked because he is clearly no longer able to perform the requirements of his job.

If this outrageous sentencing wasn’t enough, I bring your attention to the newest hire on Level 4. Mr Carter has clearly forsaken us all by giving the role of the Head of the Werewolf Wing to none other than a werewolf! Ms Iona Ballentyne was, herself, bitten while working for the Werewolf Capture Unit, and still suffers from prolonged injuries. Is this the Ministry’s attempt at rewarding failure? Are they ticking a box to say that they are offering opportunities to disabled monsters?

Someone needs to take a stand against the nonsense.

Sincerely,
Mrs Cynthia Bombay

Hannah Bombay's Flat / [20th Aug] And I Promise You This

December 30, 2017, 07:27:28 AM

Hannah Bombay had been disowned at exactly 9AM on the 28th July 2010. Cynthia remembered the morning as clear as a glass of vodka. She and Fred had been enjoying their morning crumpets and tea when the prophet had arrived. It hadn’t been the first time that Cynthia had nearly choked on her breakfast at the sight of her daughter’s face. This had been, unfortunately, the first time that Hannah’s face had been covering the front page of the daily newspaper. Kidnapped for the full moon, the girl had alleged. Never far from trouble, her mother had considered.

Cindy clearly remembered Fred reaching across to take the paper, his gruff voice remarking “What the hell is our daughter doing on the prophet?”
The paper had been snatched back as Cindy Bombay withdrew her wand and set it alight. The flames were reflected in green eyes as Cindy calmly responded “We don’t have a daughter, Fred. Not anymore.”

And Cynthia Bombay hadn’t gone back on her word. She felt rather as though she’d foreseen the continued trouble and disaster that only seemed to follow Hannah. The good Bombay name was being besmirched by her werewolf criminal daughter. Cindy’s name was being besmirched! The girl should have married Yonyarn. She should have become a good wife and stopped all of this nonsense. Now she was an ex-prisoner of Azkaban and everyone looked at Cindy as if she’d caused it!

Fred had been nagging her for months now to get back in touch with Hannah, to show her support for her clearly failing daughter. Her own father, Anthony had implored both her and her mother to seek reason. It wasn’t clear whether Cindy was heeding the advice of her husband and father or whether she simply wanted the incessant nagging to cease, but at 9:30am, she was stood at the door to Hannah’s flat, raising her fist to knock.

Full Character Name: Cynthia Bombay (née Musgrave)
Character Birthday & Age: 1960-07-19, 50 years old
City & Country of Birth: St Albans, Herefordshire, England
Blood Purity: Pureblood
Alma Mater: Hogwarts, Hufflepuff
Job/Position: Ministry Welcome Witch

Wand: Cindy’s wand is remarkably average. The springiness of the birch wood and hippogriff talon core allows for decent charms work. Her wand is fairly short, reaching a length of 8 inches.

Physical Description:
“50? Really?” should be the question asked in amazement if lucky enough to be told the age of THE Cindy Bombay. The majority of her appearance if carefully engineered to allow for that exact response. Blonde hair is regularly dyed and straightened with special potions. Her light green eyes are not surrounded by the habitual wrinkles of a witch in her fifties. Instead her entire face is smooth, free of the signs of aging. Lips are plump, makeup perfect and skin tanned lightly as if the sun is forever shining down on her.

Of course, very little of her appearance is natural. Cindy is the type of witch to have perfectly manicured nails, low cleavage and high heels.

Naturally, she is about 5 foot and 5 inches tall. She is slim (with thanks to a regular supply of very unhealthy slimming potions). That is, doubtlessly, as far as natural goes.

Personality Description:
Well her personality isn’t necessary to discuss when she looks this beautiful, surely? Hannah, her daughter, would question if she even had a personality or a brain. The brain very possibly died off with thanks to the years of beauty potion abuse.

Yet apparently, everyone does have a personality. Cindy has loves and hobbies. She has likes and dislikes. She has a brain that is used daily.
Loves include, yes, you’ve guessed it, beauty potions and anything to prevent the horrific aging process and nature. Her hobbies include drinking copious amounts of wine (white), sunbathing and swimming. She likes, and tolerates, her husband while she greatly dislikes her brother and daughter. Family can be a real let down when you want to look good.

If still unclear, Cindy Bombay is a vain and selfish person. She is the ‘young’ second wife of Frederick Bombay whom he cheated on his first wife with. She could have been a very smart witch had she not been so focused on simply looking good.

History:
Cindy was the first child of Anthony and August Musgrave and life was good until she was no longer the only child. Anthony was a driver for the Knightbus while August worked for the Department of Magical Transportation as a part-time clerk. The family was average, regular.

Regularly lying, Cynthia insists that she remembers just how wonderful things were before her ‘dear mentally ill’ brother was born. He was, unfortunately, their father’s favourite while Cindy was close to her mother. Brother and sister never got along and it was a relief to finally leave for Hogwarts and be without the clever little swine that shared her surname.

A Hufflepuff, Cynthia flitted about throughout her years at school. Her interests were in the boys rather than the books and she passed her NEWTs with average grades. This sent her into an average job as a welcome witch in the Ministry’s atrium, where she remains today.

Cindy was 23 when she met Frederick Bombay, a small-time book editor and currently married. He was ten years her senior with dark hair and darker eyes. He had enough money to keep her comfortable, he was more than suitable. Obviously, upon meeting the most beautiful woman in wizarding Britain, Frederick left his wife and son and took up with her in the small Herefordshire village.

In 1985, they had their one and only daughter and she was more than enough to handle.
Hannah wasn’t interested in similar hobbies to her mother.
Hannah was a serious disappointment.

While mother wanted a mini-me to plait her hair and teach her makeup techniques, her daughter wanted to blow things up and read things. The horror!

Now imagine how horrific it was for poor Cynthia Bombay when her own brother was arrested in front of her in the very ministry atrium that she worked on a daily basis. He’d decided to ruin his career as an auror and track down muggleborns. People saw. They talked. Cynthia disowned.

No longer did she have a brother and Lawrence Musgrave became a forbidden topic at the dinner table. Hannah, who’d much preferred her uncle to her own mother, regularly asked questions due to her annoying inquisitiveness. Cynthia shot her down daily.

Very little has happened directly to Cynthia during her life, but she would tell you it had. Her own brother became a criminal and an Azkaban detainee and her own daughter followed suit after becoming a werewolf monster! There are only so many people you can disown before things start getting confusing.

Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
Cynthia is quite convinced that she is responsible for the smooth running of the ministry, and has been for 33 years. she is the longest serving welcome witch because most have moved up to better things. She personally doesn’t see the point.

There is a responsibility to cheerfully greet the public and ministry employees, to be the beautiful face of the ever changing and adapting ministry. She is the best-informed gossip in the building yet the least ambitious.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
Experience isn’t really necessary. But who is better qualified to be a welcome witch than the witch who’s sat in the same chair for 33 years?

Writing Sample:

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Cindy is a vain, unambitious 50-year-old woman with very little in her life but beautify potions and problematic family members she would rather forget. She is a major gossip and a regular face seen at the ministry’s welcome desk.
