Dear Diary,

Why am I so tired? I can't sleep, eat, think or function properly. I'm way over hills right now and its not the best thing in life right now. Its like I'm coming down from some weird type of unnatural high and I'm falling hard: really hard. I'm at this peak in life where its rather difficult to be there--I mean here at Hogwarts. I yearn to go back home with my parents. I wish I could be a normal muggle.

Love,
Duce

Astronomy was by far Duce's worst subject. As Duce and Ivan climbed the steps to what seemed like the tower of terror, Duce groaned with miserableness. When the time came for Astronomy, Duce wasn't prepared. She was completely exasperated.  Everything on her body ached: from her curling toes to the tip top of her head. Her morning classes had her drained. It was rather difficult running from class to class during the day. The breaks in between did a cipher; They were simply not enough for young Duce. The invocation of having this particular class in the morning was far by stretched.

Feeling more relieved then ever, Duce and Ivan finally made it inside the tower where they found their seats. Duce thrust herself in her chair, propping her hand up to hold her head. Professor Trishna scribbled a bunch of junk onto one of the blackboards. The screeching of the chalk gave Duce a slight migraine. Ivan poked and prodded Duce as Professor Trishna babbled about something incredibly unrecognizable.

It was such a tedious task to stay awake.

Dear Mum,

I've been meaning to write you guys a letter for a long while now. I miss you guys so much and it hearts. Sometimes I lie awake in bed thinking about our fond, family memories. Remember when you finally let the twins get near a broom? Their little hearts exploded into mere happiness. What about the time when you sent me to Hogwarts? I remember you crying the whole trip to Kings' Cross and me asking 'Mum, what's wrong?" You just had that motherly smile wept across your face before you wiped the tears and told me they were tears of joy. I wish we can create those vivid memories again. I wish we can re-live them again like they never happened before. I miss you and dad. I miss Ringo and Paxy (hope Dad isn't forgetting to feed them). I miss the granola oatmeal you cooked every morning. I miss my brothers running around screaming their heads off. But most importantly, I miss the house.

I love you Mum (tell Dad I love him too). Send the best wished for the rest of the family. Please send Ringo back your reply. I have a treat for him in return.

Love your favorite little witch,
Duce

P.S. I cried the whole time I wrote this letter.

Duce folded the little piece of parchment into fourths. She tied it onto the nearest owl, hoping no one else in the owlery read it over her shoulder.

Character Journals / Words Unspoken (Duce's Diary)

September 13,2010

Dear Diary,
Oh my gosh! Ignaz Faust finally talked to me today in Divination! My heart was racing a mile a minute as his minty breath hit my nostrils. At this very moment I'm probably acting like a true muggle, teenage girl, but who in the hell cares? Ignaz finally talked to me! I'm in a very good mood and I hope no one destroys it. (That goes for my brothers and Ivan).

P.S. (for the millionth time in this journal entry) Ignaz finally talked to me!

Love,
Duce ;D

After a long, tired, busy hour in Astronomy, Duce head felt extremely heavy. Her brain melted under the pressure of having to learn and comprehend all of Jupiter's moons. Europa--Io--Ganymede--Callisto--Thebe--Carme--weren't they all the same? They were they moons of Jupiter, so how different could they really be? Who gave a damn about moons anyway? How did this incorporate with magic and the wizard world? Somehow nothing made sense at the moment.

The sun blazed in the the far window of the common room. No one else was in here but the dust bunnies in the corners--well that was until Ivan came bursting through the common room door like the madman he is.

"Hey, why are you in here when everyone else is watching the first years play quidditch on the grounds?" Ivan asked.

"You would be locked in the castle too if you had just endured a boring class of Astronomy", Duce bit back slightly. "I need to rest my eyes."

Ivan groaned in a miserable way. He did not understand why Duce was in the castle on this fine day. "Bloody hell, Duce, no one gives a damn lick about the stars and planets. Get your arse up and enjoy the afternoon," Ivan dragged Duce off of her behind. For a moment she wobbled, trying to gain her balance.

Duce knew there was not a chance that she could convince her overly persistent cousin differently. She had no choice but to get dragged from the common room to the main halls. Duce tried to plead and beg--and Ivan kindly turned the favor by doing opposite of what she asked. The main halls were left in skid marks from both of their dirty shoes: the tracks would cover for them later in the day. The moment Duce stepped onto the grounds tons of commotion poured over the castle. Seventh years were cheering on the first years as they competed and collided against  each other, professors yelled hoarsely at the students to keep quiet, and a bunch of fourth years were snogging their faces completely off. Turning her face in pure annoyance, Duce sat under her favorite shade tree. If she was going to be forced out here, she might as well enjoy herself like the rest. Either way it goes, she had no choice.

Duce beheld the current childish quidditch game that was occuring. Squemish little first years banged and prodded against each other. From the looks of their tiny, cute faces, Duce could tell they were quite a bit of fun. Their laughs and screams bewildered Duce as she haven't seen a bunch of younger children that happy before. Their brooms also gave a gleam that gave the impression that the holders of them were exactly like the moons of Jupiter--very unique and special.

Aren't all the wizards and witches around the same? They all can perform magic abilities, so what was really different about them?

The day was surprisingly sunny, something that rarely has happened since the month started and Duce decided to go out to Hogsmeade with her brother Jaeson and her cousin Ivan. Instead of studying for exams like she planned, she changed her exhausted mind to do something more relaxing and comforting -- plus a few butterbeers wouldn't hurt her ambitious soul -- right? She closed her library book, smoothing out her skirt, and took a deep breath. She couldn't believe that she was choosing fun over studying, She walked down the stairs that led her down the girls' dormitory. She went out the common room, beginning to meet her family on the school grounds. For someone that hasn't really done nothing but study this whole school term, Duce was kind of proud of herself for letting loose and having some sort of fun. In her mind, this was a miracle.

She stepped on the new, fresh, green grass. The sun was beaming directly towards her, making Duce light up inside. She has not had any real vitamin D the whole year and it took a toll on  her body. The once pale skin, turned golden instantly. Her icy blue eyes lit up vibrantly, making the color stand out even more. This is what Duce has been missing, she thought. All this time, she was worn down and broken, but a little bit of sun was something more than just an energy source for the whole planet Earth.

"Over here, Duce!" Ivan motioned.

Duce snapped out of her deep thoughts to find her family under a big , shady, tree. She smiled. "Ready to go?" She asked.

"Well yeah. We've been waiting for your arse all day, you would think to have common sense along with book sense." Her brother, Jaeson smart mouthed.

Duce gave her older brother a quick evil glare before she started walking off. If he was going to be sarcastic and annoying the whole visit to Hogmeade, then she didn't want anything to do with him today. She didn't need any of that and sure as hell wasn't about to tolerate her brother's nonsense. Her walking become more and more faster. She was at least five steps ahead of them. It wasn't hard for them to catch up, it was just the principal of them hurrying up before she'd change her indecisive mind.

The whole walk to Hogsdmeade was quiet as ever and Duce enjoyed the peace. She smiled and waved at others passing by, gaining weird stares from her brother and cousin because they've never seen her so happy and cheery like she is today. This, in fact, wasn't the only the strange incident, but when they arrived at the  Three Broomsticks, she casually told them to sit at a table and she'd get the butterbeers for everyone. Jaeson and Ivan was starting to think that there was something extremely wrong with Duce.

While Duce didn't care about their strange accusations about her, she happily went to the bar counter and asked the bartender for three butterbeers.

"Can I get three butterbeers, one with a lot of foam and the other two kept light?" Duce asked.

"Sure thing sweetheart." The bartender said as she went to the back to extract the beers,

Duce put the money on the bar counter. She looked around at all of the people that were in the Three Broomsticks, today. She saw that they were happy and having lots of fun with their friends. Duce wanted the exact thing today. She didn't want to think about anything else but fun. Fun, fun, fun, and more fun.

'Here you go sweety." The bartender passed the three mugs of beer to her.

"Thanks."

With that, Duce turned around and collided with something big. The mugs of butterbeer dropped to the floor. The shattered pieces startled her and all of  the people in the shack.

This was embarrassing.

Tiny drops of water leaked onto the floor. There was of smell of cats and cabbage, the stench was unbearable. The lavatory stalls were covered with muck and dirt. The pipes creaked for mercy. The drains gurgled for life. This is what they would call "Moaning Murtle's Lavatory".

Duce held her breath as she slowly walked around. She's never been anywhere close to this bizarre portion of the castle. She's never even heard of it since she's been at Hogwarts. Her hands caressed the stalls that were covered in muck. Her feet splashed in the puddle of water, that merely left a trail throughout the lavatory. Someway, someohow, Duce's conscience was telling her to get out while she can, but her body and mind told her otherwise. She wanted to explore more. She wanted to get a feel of every Hogwarts' mystery places before her retired days come. Duce wanted to suck up all of the mutual feelings this lavatory had.

What Duce didn't know was, this specific lavatory had history. This was Moaning Murtle's Lavatory.

When all hope was lost, someone in this mist of the world sought the Alyx family's pain. The young man, named Kale, who now has taken a seat next to Duce's mum, asked her a question that everyone has been dreading since this tormenting night has started. Duce's mother never told her children the actual truth about what happened, she just mentioned bits and pieces of the whole story.  Fear glistened in Duce's eyes as she cocked her head towards her delusional mother. Her half parted lips wanted to speak, but the words wouldn't come out correctly. Her throat became dry and it burned with more and more fear. Duce glanced at her brother from the corner of her eye, he showed more curiosity than she had shown this whole entire time and this meant that there was more to it than they would ever imagine.

One of the Medi-witches brought a few cuppas of tea to the Alyx family, then she slipped away, allowing Kale to continue his discussion with the family. Kale gingerly handed Mrs. Alyx a cuppa and her shaky hands clutch the handle of the cup. Kale patiently waited for an answer, but Mrs. Alyx wasn't ready to speak just yet. However, Jaeson wasn't as patient, he wanted answers now.

"Tell the man what happened to father!" Jaeson said through clenched teeth. His sudden outburst caught the attention of everyone that was sitting around. Mrs. Alyx looked at her son in an almost heart-broken look.

Knowing that the truth has to come out sooner or later, Mrs. Alyx took a deep breath. She stared at Kale for a couple of more seconds, feeling the hair-raising gazes of her children. She sucked in the tears, but that didn't seem to work well. "He..well..he was working late at the MoM and he.. he was being followed after he left his office. The person that was following him was a were.. a werewolf and it attacked him. When he didn't come home, I was beginning to grow worried and I went to go look for him." Mrs. Alyx voice broke as she said those bitter words. "When I found him, he was tore up and unconscious. Help was already on its way before I could even react."

Different reactions occurred after Mrs. Alyx spoke. Kale gave an glimpse of  sympathy, whereas Jaeson clenched his fist tightly, but the only one that stood out was Duce's . Duce shook her head in disbelief. She couldn't take in the heart-wrenching truth. Duce was being naive, something that was getting in the way of reality and actuality.

"Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm." Professor Jowd's words replayed in Duce's mind as she blanked out.

History of Magic was Duce's least favorite subject. She hated all the questions and the facts about history. In fact, none of those things made any sense to her. She dreaded every single day that she had to take the class, but she sucked it up because she had no choice but to go to the class. This class drained all of the happiness out of Duce.

She silently tapped on her desk, not even listening to Professor Jowd. She didn't even respond to the dim-witted comments her classmates blurted out, which was unusual. Normally she would make a short reply to these comments or a slight smirk, but today she really wasn't in the mood. However, her mood changed when a note flew upon her desk. She opened the note slowly and recognized the sloppy, boyish handwriting. The note was from her best friend Ivan.

The note gingerly said "Meet me in the common room tonight. I have something exciting to show you!"

Duce smiled to herself and took a quick glance at Ivan who was "pretending" to write down notes as Professor Jowd droned on and on about who knows what. Duce folded the little piece of paper up and put it away. She keep smiling to herself, not giving a care to the world.

This class might have some excitement to it after all.

Duce paced up and down the waiting room. She couldn't stand the fact that her father was lying in one of St.Mungos hospital beds. A couple of hours ago, she was just at Hogwarts, in her dormitory, but a owl from her dearest mum caught her off guard. She left school for emergency purposes and headed to St.Mungos, where her family wait patiently for her arrival. After a brief discussion of what was happening, Duce wanted to cry her eyes out. She couldn't believe that her father was attacked and bitten by a werewolf.

What seemed like hours, Duce finally calmed down. She sat next to her mother and hugged her tightly. She held her mother as she cried in the crook of her neck. Duce knew that this terrible event could led to other dangerous things, that's why she held her mother. She cradled her and wiped away the salinity waters they called tears. After comforting her mother, Duce turned to her older brother Jaeson, studying his guilty but saddened face.

"Will father be okay?" Jaeson asked in a hoarse tone.

"We have to have faith. Be hopeful. Let's hope that father will be just fine."

"But what if he is fine, but he turns i-into a---werewolf." Jaeson shuddered at his own words.

Duce choked as her brother said those words. She hoped that her father would turn out to be okay, but there was a good chance that he would become a werewolf . "He won't, well at least I hope not." Duce replied. "I'll still love father the same."

Jaeson nodded his head. This tragedy had an affect on every single family member, whether they showed it or not.

A tear slipped down Duce's pale face as she thought about her dear father. She really wanted everything to be normal once he was okay, but the thought of him turning was taking a big toll on her. Duce was affected emotionally, something that she didn't think she'll ever feel again.

This was something that threatened the feelings of everyone in the Alyx family.

Duce's pure sustainability, her ability to make unique things happen and her smooth line of intelligence makes Duce a perfect candidate for Hufflepuff. (She's not too cunning for her to be in  Slytherin, nor she is not the witty or sharp type to be in Ravenclaw, and she's too serious & high maintained for Gryfinndor, right?)

Writing Sample:
"Jaeson leave me alone!" Duce snarled at her brother. She tried walking away but Jaeson found another way to mess with his little sister.

" Shut up you little brat, I'm not doing any harm to you. Now am I?" Jaeson replied with a devilish grin on his face.

Duce ran out the house and ran to the big yard that was outside their house. She covered her face with her hands. Duce wanted to cry, but she couldn't show fear around her brothers or they would think that she was a coward. She sucked up the pain and dealt with it. Being the only girl was hard and Duce sometimes wished for an younger sister. After sitting under the big oak tree for several minutes, Duce thought of a plan, a plan that was going to get her into a lot of trouble, but she didn't care because she was getting an enjoyment out of it.

"Time to take revenge on my older brother once and for all." Duce mumbled under her breath.
