London / Re: [November 6th] No Strings Attached (Kale)June 17, 2015, 05:25:20 PM It was nights like tonight that made Kale thankful that he worked with animals. Animals were predictable. They hunted and killed out of necessity and instinct, not a sense of entitlement or for sport. Even werewolves, whose underlying human nature made them the bane of the Creature Injury floor, could be predictable and mostly contained. Humans, though, they were another story all together.
Humans were cruel. They killed for survival, true, but they also killed for fun, for power, and with a sense of entitlement that no other creature possessed. A sense of individualism twisted into megalomania through rationalization. The events of November 5th, 2010 were frightening proof to the senseless cruelty of humans: Two dead, a relatively small number next to other tragedies but a tragedy nonetheless, dozens mutilated both mentally and physically, and a landmark for the wizarding world, that had stood for hope for wizards and muggleborns alike for centuries, left in an unrecognizable heap of charred wood, brick and mortar. For what end? The question lingered at the back of the mind of everyone involved, if not the forefront. There was no clear answer and Kale doubted that there would ever be. It was thoughts like these that had, not long ago, driven Kale to drown the world out with anything that would numb his mind. After hours of applying tinctures, stitching wounds and soothing panic, Kale begin to feel his old urges resurfacing with a vengeance. He needed something, anything, to block out the images of crying faces covered in brutal burns. He considered, briefly, of going to Dora's flat, but seeing her, heavy with child, reminded him that his human weaknesses were about to bring another life into an unkind world. Besides, would she even be willing to see him? He doubted it very much. Though initially eager to be there for her and his child, Kale struggled with the impending responsibility. It was almost funny that he spent his days with the lives of others in his hands, but the idea of being a husband and father left him feeling helpless and trapped. He was more than willing to provide her with money and he had every intention of spending time with his child, but he couldn't fathom the idea of being a family man with a regular 9-5, 2.5 kids and a dog. He could barely take care of house plants. It was for this reason he and Dora remained as 'complicated' and it was also for this reason that Kale decided that seeing her right now would only lead him to making matters worse. Stepping out of the window of Purge and Dowse, Kale was surprised to find another body occupying the adjacent sidewalk. He didn't recognize her as another healer, and judging by her lack of nail bitting anxiety or freshly treated wounds, he didn't think she was a relative of a patient or a patient herself. Her weary expression and resigned chuckle, followed by a sigh and "Some night, huh?", made it clear that she was connected to the attack in some way. It dawned on Kale that it was likely that she was either one of the bystanders that had helped rescue the victims or law enforcement. Since the bystanders were all ushered out hours ago, he decided she must be an auror. "Yeah... right?" He nodded, adding a humorless chuckle that offered as much relief as the wheezing final breaths of a dying man. He glanced at her out of the corner of his weary eyes, sympathizing wholeheartedly with her state of mind. Her job meant seeing some of the worse cases of human cruelty that the wizarding world had to offer, so he could imagine that she just wanted to drown it all out now and then. He then stood in silence next to her, staring at a distant, indiscernible point down a street swathed in early morning shadows. He didn't know what compelled him to do it. Perhaps it was that other human trait that craved socialization and camaraderie in the light of a tragedy or perhaps he just felt like she needed one as well, but Kale suddenly turned to her and said "I know this is kinda sudden but... wanna get a drink? I need one after all... this..." He added, waving his hand in the general direction of St. Mungoes. 3
Ground Floor: Reception and Artifact Accidents / Re: [Nov 5] Burning ManJune 10, 2015, 01:26:35 AM “I’m fine,”
I'm Fine. I'm Fine. With a sister like Kia, Kale had heard this phrase far too much to believe it, especially when it was obviously not the case. Take the woman in front of him, she was most certainly NOT fine. Her face was ashen, her steps unsteady, and each cough shook her entire body and produced a red mist in its' wake. It didn't take a seasoned Healer to realize that she was in bad shape. When her expression became even more aggressive, Kale mentally noted where his wand and prepared to retrieve it. He didn't like the idea of using a freezing or immobilizing charm on an already irate patient, but if she attacked him, he would have no choice. However, when her hands crept to her side and her shoulders weakened, he realized that she was too weak to really fight back. Very slowly, he took an almost imperceptible step towards her. Any minute now... As if on cue, her eyes began to blink as she begin to wobble. When her legs gave out and she slumped forward, Kale sprung towards her and quickly closed the space between them. As she faceplanted into his chest, he latched his elbows under her armpits and she sagged like a ragdog in his grasp. "Hurry!" he shouted at one of the mediwitches watching "Get her on a board and to a room, stat!". He could already feel her blood soaking into his robes and knew that they didn't have much time left. 4
Ground Floor: Reception and Artifact Accidents / Re: [Nov 5] Burning ManJune 04, 2015, 03:50:15 AM Spell Damage wasn't his area of expertise and today was his day off, but the moment Kale had gotten the notice that the hospital was in dire need of healers, he had excused himself from the bonfire he had been attending to rush off to work. He worried a little about how professional he would appear, as he had to rush home and grab his robe, and didn't have time to change from his rather casual attire. The familiar lime-green robe flapped, half open, as he made his way down the hall to find someone to give him direction.
Turned out he needed have worried so much about decorum since no one was paying any attention to him. The place was a madhouse, filled with pained cries and the stench of burnt flesh, smoke and blood. People seemed to be everywhere, spilling out of the rooms into the halls, as green robed healers and mediwitches weaved in and out of them, stitching, applying and soothing. It was like there had been a dozen multi-victim werewolf attacks at once and the werewolves had been on fire. Joking aside, it was a terrifying sight. "Hey, whose giving orders?" Kale hollered at a passing mediwitch. "Hollingbury... I think..." She called back, barely slowing her pace. Kale started to glance in the rooms for the healer when he heard someone screech “GET ME OUT OF HERE!”. Suddenly, a blond with deep splinching wounds and what appeared to be a broken leg, came limping down the hallway at a speed that couldn't be good for shattered bones. A few mediwitches followed her cautiously, as though they were trying to corner a wild animal. With the way she growled and snarled at anyone who came near, Kale could see why. Now was not the time for caution though. She was probably in shock and fueled by fear and rage, but once the adrenaline wore off, she was in for a world of pain. In fact, she would be lucky if she lived that long. Those splinching wounds were no joke and if she didn't get treated soon, she was likely to bleed out. Since the others couldn't seem to do it, Kale saw no other option but to be the one to stop her. Stepping in front of her, hands out and empty, Kale maintained a deceptive calm and a neutral expression "Miss... I'm unarmed... I just want to talk..." He said gently, making sure that while he didn't avoid her eyes all together, neither did he stare intensely. Eye contact would only make her feel threatened. " I'm not going to touch you, but I really need you to listen to me..." Despite the gentleness in his voice, he stood firmly in her way. "My name is Kale Ferris... I am a healer at St. Mungos hospital. That is where you are right now. There has been an accident and you are badly wounded." Any move she made to slip past him, he would counter, moving backward a little bit at a time so as to keep his distance without letting her gain too much ground. His hands were still raised and his voice calm as he continued, "I understand how upset you are about being brought here against your will, but I promise you that we just want to help take away the pain, nothing more. Will you please let me help you?" 5
Ground Floor: Reception and Artifact Accidents / Re: [25th June] Benefitting St Mungo's (Open to all)October 21, 2014, 03:29:41 PM As the two girls introduced each other, Kale drank his water absentmindedly, glancing around the hall at the other partygoers. Normally he'd be enjoying the attention of two lovely ladies like these, but with Kia's eagle eye on him, he felt tense and awkward. It wasn't a normal sensation for Kale and he kinda resented her for making him feel that way. Thanks to her, the normally charming Kale Ferris was reduced to sipping ice water and snorting in agreement at Layla's comment about things like this not being her thing. He couldn't agree more and he'd give anything to be at a club, drinking normal, polite liquor. But, as an 'eligible bachelor', he had an obligation to be sold off like cattle.
Suddenly Flynn took the stage and Kale heard Cassidy called up first. He smirked a bit into the rim of his wineglass. That's right, start off with the little guys. Save the studs for last. He thought to himself with a chuckle. There was a flurry of bids, mostly in the form of a warbled screech that he immediately cringed at. He'd recognized Mrs. Haggernarsty's voice anywhere. After all, she was a hypochondriac who insisted on visiting the hospital every week with a new ailment. He had his share of investigating her claims of Doxie bites and had seen more of her than he would ever admit. He realized in horror that if she didn't win, he might be the unlucky bidee that got the joy of listening to her list her ailments for a full day. Kale was suddenly quite glad that Cassidy went first. Let him deal with her. "30 galleons!" The bids were silenced with another voice he recognized and Kale felt his blood go from cold to... confused (if that were even possible). Why... Why was his sister voting on Cassidy... no, why was she bidding on anyone? Kale glanced over at her, bewildered. She was a private person but she always told Kale her troubles, so if she were having issues with Eamonn, she should have told him. That wasn't the only thing that bothered him. The two of them had good jobs, but neither had 30 galleons of 'walking around' money to go bidding on people with. Why would she be bidding so much on a guy she just met... and why would she even have that much money? Kale felt his stomach flop around nervously. If he was just suspicious of her being up to something before, he was sure now. Before he could disengage himself to confront her, A hand gripped his elbow and Kale found himself yanked close to Jordyn. He glanced down at the culprit, who was peeking out from between them and muttering something like "Legit, all the people in London that I really dislike seemed to have all gathered here... Heh." Aware that the already too close for comfort distance between him and the young intern just got closer, Kale focused on Layla's comment as casually as he could. "Who? Derosiers?" He asked, assuming since the woman passed at that exact moment. 6
Leaky Cauldron / Re: [May 12] There's a Tear in my Beer... (Jason)September 14, 2014, 09:45:19 PM Kale jumped and bolted to attention when Jason abruptly slapped him on the back. Sitting up a little straighter, he rubbed his face with one hand as he wordlessly motioned towards Jasons seat and drink. He hadn't drank much in the last couple of years, only a beer now and again socially, so three and a half in a short period left him feeling completely tanked.
“Hey mate, Since you got started without me... How about we skip the weather talk. What’s up, Ferris?” Ugh... He knew he had called Jason there to speak about this specific situation but now that he was there, Kale felt a strong urge to pretend nothing was wrong and just enjoy his time with one of his very few friends. Kale knew this was selfish of him to think, for everyone involved. Jason probably had better things to do and Dora was already put out enough without him being unable to make up his mind. Sucking in his lips, he took a deep breath and tried to gather his senses before answering. "I met a girl." Was all he said at first. He let the words hang in the air for a moment as he took another draw from his beer. They should have been enough to cause worry, since Kale rarely kissed and told. He may be a huge flirt and commit-a-phobe, but he didn't go around bragging about it. Rudeness aside, he didn't like ascribing so much feeling to something that he tried to keep emotion free. If he talked too much about nothing, it would become something, or so he feared. But Kale realized that this statement alone did not clarify the situation or do it justice. Averting his eyes from Jason, Kale rested his head on his hand and stared at mug, adding in a low, almost inaudible voice "... and I got her pregnant." 7
Ground Floor: Reception and Artifact Accidents / Re: [25th June] Benefitting St Mungo's (Open to all)September 14, 2014, 09:02:08 PM The icy wand-water had barely touched his tongue when a shiver ran down his spine and the hairs on the back of his neck stood at attention. When he was young and dumb, he called them his 'bird barometers' because they liked to rise when a body came into his personal zone, and those bodies tended to be of the feminine persuasion, but after the werewolf attack, Kale learned they would rise in other situations as well. Tensing slightly, Kale turned to see who had approached him.
“It takes some getting used to, I’ve been handing it out all night…people seem to keep coming back for more anyway. People will deal with anything for free drinks, right?” When he saw who it was, he barely managed not to spit out his water, choked and started to cough spectacularly. Of course. Of course it was the cute, young intern that his sister specifically told him not to speak to. And, of course, she had to come up to him while he was still in Kia's line of sight. Oh, and she also was drinking alcohol, because that never ended badly. It wasn't like he would even do anything, he really wasn't that sort of guy, but the whole situation could easily be misconstrued and Kia was the master at misconstruing. Managing to recover from his coughing fit, Kale cleared his throat and said, "Yeah... I think most people have a masochistic streak..." The moment the words left his mouth, he mentally face palmed. Why had he said that? Glancing over to see if an angry red blur was headed his way, Kale was pleased to see that Kia was otherwise occupied by whats-his-face from the second floor. MacQueen. The fact that Kia seemed to be getting tipsy didn't worry him too much. Even though he and MacQueen weren't the best of buds, he knew the guy was the decent sort. Besides, Kia took down full grown werewolves for a living. She could handle a skinny nerd like MacQueen. Turning back to Jordyn, he watched her sip on her drink with rising irritation. Maybe it was because he had just turned 22 and was more mature, or perhaps because he had started to drink young as well and it hadn't done well for him, or, Merlin forbid, because he was going to be a father, but Kale didn't like seeing her drink while still in Hogwarts. Before he could say anything, though, the hairs on his neck rose again and he tensed into a boxing stance when an arm wrapped around his shoulder. “Get out and mingle, Ferris.” Kale saw Jason's grin seconds before he lashed out and barely managed to not punch him. "Bloody hell, boss... Don't scare me like that..." He chuckled, grasping the mans hand. Jason quickly introduced the girl next to him as Layla. And Kale did mean 'girl'. Here he had been thinking that the 5 or 6 year difference between he and Jordyn was cause for concern, and then Jason walks in with a girl probably only a couple years older. Kale was aware of the actual reason why Jordyn was off limits and this girl wasn't, but he still found it a bit worrying that his 30-something boss was dating what looked like a 19-20 year old. It wasn't like he cared all that much as long as it was legal and consensual, but it made Kale wonder if Jason was mentally well. Was this his method of coping with what had happened over Christmas? Kale managed not to reveal his concern, though, giving Layla a friendly smile and greeting. When Jason abruptly abandoned her with him, he recalled that poor Jordyn was still standing there and quickly moved to introduce them "Oh um... Layla, this is our intern... uh... " Glancing over at her, his eyes begged for her to give her name before he really embarrassed himself. 8
Ground Floor: Reception and Artifact Accidents / Re: [25th June] Benefitting St Mungo's (Open to all)September 08, 2014, 03:53:19 AM Dressed in a white blazer and red boots, Kale arrived fashionably late to the benefit dinner. Next to him, almost at the same height due to a pair of ridiculous heels, stood his sister Kia. He wasn't sure why she was even there, much less his date, but she had insisted that she come along. Something about 'protecting him'.
Kale had only agreed to it because he hadn't intended to bring a date in the first place, but he couldn't shake the feeling that she was up to something sinister. Kia wasn't the type to enjoy parties, let alone beg him to take her. Noticing some of the weird looks he was getting from the crowd, Kale smiled and said out of the corner of his mouth, "You know I have no intention of dancing with you, right?" Kale considered himself a handsome bloke and handsome blokes didn't need to ask their sisters to the dance. "Of course not." She smirked, clearly enjoying his discomfort. "But don't let me catch you getting cheeky with any of these other ladies. Especially that one." She waggled a finger at him accusingly before pointing discretely towards one of the new Interns. He recognized her but wasn't sure of her name. Jaden?. "That one is far too young for you." "Do you seriously thi-- What sort of man do you take me for?" Kale flashed her a brief frown as he pushed her finger down. Merlin, did she really think he was a predator? "I take you for a man who knocks up a sweet, young woman and then doesn't bother to speak to her for nearly a month." Kia retorted, her tone getting a bit sharper. Realizing what this was really about, Kale abruptly turned and leaned close. "Look, she knew what I was about because, unlike her, I made it clear what I was from the get go." He hissed, pausing to give a passing pair of patrons a charming smile and a wave as though nothing was wrong. It wouldn't help the benefit if they made a scene. Turning back to her, he added "As for that situation.... I..." He paused and shook his head, his grin turning to a grimace, "You know what? No. I am not getting into that here. We can talk about it later." Pulling away from her, he straightened his jacket and tried to regain his composure. "I'm going to go get a drink." He grumbled, refusing to look at her. "Try not to nag any of our patrons while I'm gone." Putting on a friendly smile, Kale strode into the crowd, stopping here and there to shake hands and make small talk. Arriving at the refreshments, he picked up one of the flutes and was about to down it when he heard a small, obnoxious voice say "Awww... What wrong? Babies life so hard he has to drown it in wine?" Blinking, Kale looked around for the source only to realize it was the glass in his hand. More specifically, the wine inside it. "What the hell..." He muttered, tossing the wine into a nearby pot and filling his glass with water instead. It was probably for the best, alcohol hadn't been helping him much lately. 9
Kale Ferris / Re: Other Information About KaleAugust 12, 2014, 02:00:02 PM
Kale Omar Ferris Born: June 10th, 1988 @ 4:24 am Gemini Strengths: Daring, Capable and Human Weaknesses: Troubled, Over-Emotional and Erratic Element: Air Symbol: The Twins Ruling Planet: Mercury Color: Yellow Gemstone: Pearl Metal: Quicksilver Flower: Lily-of-the-Valley Day: Wednesday Sun Sign :: GEMINI You have a quick, bright and agile mind, but an extremely short attention span. You love the external, kaleidoscopic aspects of life, but you tend to avoid (and even fear) deep, close emotional involvements. As such, you seem to enjoy travel and sightseeing and generally being "on-the-go." You get quite listless when things around you become static and dull, but your excitement returns whenever you are stimulated by a new idea. Chatty, inquisitive and quite playful, you enjoy practical jokes and games in general. Your moods change quickly and often -- you are very restless and constantly in motion. You are known for your versatility and adaptability. Your vivaciousness enlivens any social gathering. Moon Sign :: ARIES High-spirited and courageous, you are a fighter when your emotions are aroused. The degree of force and drive that you can bring to any effort sometimes surprises others. You have hair-trigger reactions to specific stimuli and tend to "let it all hang out." You sometimes act before you think and do things on the spur of the moment, and that sometimes gets you into trouble. Your moods change quickly -- you have quite a temper, but you don't hold grudges. Very independent, with an extremely strong and forceful personality, you are known for being impulsive, careless, reckless, foolhardy, rash and daring. Rising Sign :: GEMINI Extremely active by nature, you like to get around, meet people and do different things. Very restless, you just can't seem to stay put. You need to be involved in several projects at once in order to keep your mind stimulated. You like to read books and to write letters and to talk -- constantly. Seemingly ageless, you will always appear to be much younger than you really are. Very adaptable and inquisitive, you are always open to new ideas and experiences. A "jack-of-all-trades", you are lively and versatile. Because of the high nervous tension that you always seem to have, athletic activity would be a good way for you to burn off energy. But be careful of a tendency to experience things only superficially -- try to dig in and absorb things at a deeper level. Hogwarts :: HUFFLEPUFF GEMINI Hufflepuff Geminis stand out for being geniuses as what Muggles like to call "multitasking." They can't just work on one project - they need to have eight or nine things going all at once, usually as close to a deadline as possible. They also tend to be a little more outspoken and extraverted in the classroom than the average Hufflepuff, who would rather sit near the back of the classroom and quietly take notes to study later. Because they bite off more than they can chew, they are always complaining of various ailments related to stress. Life Path Number :: SIX You are idealistic and must feel useful to be happy. The main contribution you make is that of advice, service, and ever present support. You are a humanitarian of the first order. You are a sympathetic and kind person, generous with personal and material resources. It's easy for you to fall into a pattern of being too critical of others; you also have a tendency to become too hard on yourself. The natural burdens of this number are heavy, and on rare occasions, responsibility is abdicated by persons with this Life Path 6. This rejection of responsibility will make you feel very guilty and uneasy, and it will have very damaging effects upon your relationships with others. Chinese Zodiac :: EARTH DRAGON The Dragon in general has a tendency to rush headlong in a project or enterprise; their innate dynamism and boundless courage does not allow them to say no to a challenge. Earth Dragon’s are less inclined to be driven merely by a surge of adrenaline and would rather give an idea or project careful thought. The Earth Dragon, because of his/her stable temperament, makes a very understanding and helpful spouse and parent. One of the traits of this Dragon is a high sense of responsibility to those under their care which makes the Earth Dragon cater to every need and comfort of their family. Also this Dragon is extremely protective, not only of his/her immediate family members but even of those who are a part of their close circle. Celtic Zodiac :: OAK TREE Those born under the Celtic tree astrology sign of the Oak have a special gift of strength. They are protective people and often become a champion for those who do not have a voice. Nurturing, generous and helpful, you are a gentle giant among the Celtic zodiac signs. You exude an easy confidence and naturally assume everything will work out to a positive outcome. You love to impart your knowledge of the past to others. Oak signs have a need for structure, and will often go to great lengths to gain the feeling of control in their lives. ![]() ![]() 10
Leaky Cauldron / [May 12] There's a Tear in my Beer... (Jason)August 12, 2014, 02:22:59 AM It was a Saturday night and the Leaky Cauldron had quickly filled up with patrons looking for a good time, or at least a good ale to drown their sorrows in. Amongst the peals of laughter, drunken debates and slurred cat calls, a young man sat, holed up in a shadowy corner, trying to murder his sorrow in a frothy mug of ale. His head was resting against grimy wooden table, against his better judgement, and his hand toyed listlessly with the half-empty mug next to him. Three more mugs sat near by, all empty. Across from them was a single mug, still full and enchanted to remain frosty.
It was for Jason. Kale, desperate for someone to talk to, had sent him a barely legible owl requesting a drink about an hour before. His father was too far away to offer much in the way of advice so Kale had turned to the one man he trusted as much as Sean, his boss and mentor Jason Marren. The man had not only saved Kale's life a few years back, but he gave him a chance to redeem himself by hiring a former addict with barely acceptable grades on as a healer. Because of that one act, Kale had turned his life around and was now a functioning member of society. Well... Mostly. He WAS getting drunk as a coping mechanism, after all. Who could blame him though? For a commit-a-phobe like Kale, finding out a girl you had a fling with got pregnant was bad enough but then finding out that said girl also turned into your worst nightmare once a month, well... it complicated things. His parents had raised him to be responsible and the werewolf attack had cemented it, but the attack had also left him with a fear of abandonment and loss. He had lost so many loved ones now that he was terrified of losing another and did everything he could to avoid attachments. He didn't have close friends, he had people to pal around with on a superficial level. He didn't have girlfriends, he had meaningless flings and friends with benefits. For a while, he couldn't even commit to reality, choosing to drown himself in anything that would allow him to escape it. It had taken a long time to trust his family again, and he had barely managed to find someone to trust in Jason, but other than that, he was blissfully commitment free. Until now, that is. Kale knew he couldn't just abandon Dora and the little one within her, but he was terrified of what that meant. He felt trapped and helpless, and woefully unprepared. He just needed someone to tell him what to do and that it would be okay, even if he knew it wouldn't. 11
Archived Plots / Re: New Healer at St. Mungo'sJuly 16, 2014, 09:21:38 AM Welcome <3
Kale could be a friend/enemy/frenemy... he is normally laid back and pretty irresponsible, though he does take his job seriously (it just doesn't show). I'm trying to get back into things, slowly but surely, so feel free to keep me on a back burner so I don't slow you down :3, we can figure things out later if you are interested 12
First Floor: Creature-Induced Injuries / Re: [March 30] Another Critical Werewolf Induced PainMarch 09, 2014, 10:02:00 PM Depression, anger, denial. Almost all the stages of grief were laid out in front of him like a smorgasbord of anguish and he needed to pick one to focus on first. The daughter was the one who worried him the most. The son and mother were obviously aware of what had happened and probably knew, or could guess, what he was about to say. But the girl, who had to be still in Hogwarts, just kept shaking her head in obvious disbelief. Kale knew that the denial stage could be one of the most harmful because of the impact left on the psyche when the truth finally hit.
He listened, his eyes soft with sympathy, as the mother did her best to rally herself and stutter out what happened. It was a pretty typical case. People often forgot that, despite being in the city, even the shortest walk to a nearby pub or a safe apparition spot didn't grant them immunity to werewolf attacks. He certainly had forgotten and thats why his back looked like a waffle iron and his dreams were haunted by howls and claws. Mr. Alyx was just an unlucky victim of the wrong place at the wrong time. It was unfortunate because his pain was just beginning. Unlike Kale, who had only been scratched, he was infected. He would have the scars and the nightmares, as well as a traumatizing transformation every full moon and the stigma attached to his kind. Taking a deep breath, Kale prepared to tell them the bitter truth. It was a delicate subject at best. "Well before anything else, I want you to know that your husband is alive and in stable condition. He is, however, not fully conscious yet. After such a traumatic event the body often needs a period of rest and recuperation, so we are going to need to keep him for a couple of days." "However, there is bad news as well..." Kale paused for a moment, mentally preparing himself for what was going to come next. People were unpredictable and sometimes their reaction to the news was to lash out at the messenger, as though Kale had infected the man himself. He eyed the sons clenched fist and prepared for the worst. Licking his lips, he went on "... He was bitten by the werewolf and while there is always a chance the curse won't be contracted, that chance is... highly unlikely. We are waiting for test results and will need him to go the Ministry by the next full moon in order to be sure, but there is a strong chance that... well.. that your husband is now a werewolf..." He wanted to apologize for... everything. The attack, the curse, the inevitable stigma and discrimination their family would face. But he couldn't do it. Nothing he said would change what happened or even bring them peace. He just hoped he could show them just how much he understood and sympathized with their pain. How much he was there for them. 13
First Floor: Creature-Induced Injuries / Re: [March 30] Another Critical Werewolf Induced PainMarch 08, 2014, 10:28:43 PM Just out of the grief-stricken families line of sight stood a tall young man swathed in green robes, arms crossed and lips pursed. Only his dark eyes betrayed the emotions raging inside as he watched the heartbreaking scene unfold. He had seen this scene all too often, but that didn't make things any easier, especially when he imagined his father and sister in their shoes. Knowing what his attack had put his family through only served to make his own pain worse. But perhaps it was his personal experience with werewolf attacks that made him the best person to speak to grieving families. After all, he was probably one of the very few healers, if not the only one, who had a scar across his back that could be used to play a large scale game of tic-tac-toe.[1]
He hid and waited, unwilling to interrupt something so personal. A couple minutes passed when one of the Medi-witches slid up behind him and murmured in his ear "WCU is on the way. The father is stable but..." she paused and Kale just nodded. She didn't have to finish. If he was alive, he was either seriously scarred or infected, and by the tone of her voice and the look in her eye, it was the latter. "Got it. I'll talk to them..." Kale said softly, before adding "Can you bring some tea for them? News like this needs a cup to cling to." She nodded and squeezed his shoulder reassuringly, as though he was the one needing the reassurance, before slipping away to retrieve a few cuppas. Swallowing past the lump in his throat, Kale quietly slid open the waiting room door and approached the family with as much respect and sympathy as was possible. "Pardon me, ma'am, but are you Mrs. Alyx?" Kale inquired softly as he took a seat next to the grieving woman with tear stained cheeks and reddened eyes. When she nodded, he reached out and took her hand, continuing "Ma'am, my name is Kale Ferris. I am a healer-in-training on this floor and they sent me to talk to you about what happened tonight. Do you... feel you are... up to talking to me about it?" He knew better than to pressure her to talk about something so painful.
