"You are right!" They had just learned it. They could repair the essay. That was a super idea. She raced back to the dormitory with Aoide.

"Lay it out on your bed." Suggested Ivy. "I bet if we put it in the right order it will repair better." Ivy scraped her long blonde hair back. Rolled up her pajama sleeves. "Here's the date!" She put it top right on the blankets. This was like doing jigsaws at Christmas!

Marmalade jumped up on Aoide's bed. He wanted his breakfast. He wanted Ivy. He trod all over the pieces with his paws. Meowing.
"Ohhh Marmy!" Sighed Ivy. "You are not helping. I love you too." She picked him up. Stroked his head. "Have we got all the bits?"

Ivy pressed her hands on her head. Aoide's essay was torn apart. This was a disaster! It was all her fault. She felt really awful.

"Bats! I am so sorry Aoide. You can copy mine!" Offered Ivy. Professor Storm might not notice. "Thank you Zeta. Really." Ivy remembered her manners. Gave Zeta a little bob of a curtsy. Whispered "Half an essay is better than no essay." She ran over to try and lift the sofa up for Aoide. She really hoped the other part was there.

Ivy was so thankful. The wind began to still. The papers fell from the air. Settled on every piece of furniture. The floor.

"Zeta you saved us!" Ivy threw her arms around Zeta's middle. Hugged her tight. "They will not send me to Azkaban!!" She squeaked. Cheek squished against Zeta's stomach. Relief! But it was short lived. She let go. Sprang back to her friend.

"But what about your essay Aoide?" They were no closer to finding it. The common room was a huge mess now too!

"A grown up?!!" Wailed Ivy. "I will be expelled!" She pulled her blonde hair. "And first Hufflepuff in a century!" Ivy believed all Hufflepuffs were good. It was only the Slytherins who were mean. "Please help Zeta. Otherwise I will have to find Heather. Or a seventh year." Ivy knew a grown up would have this fixed in a flash but they would also tell her off. She really did fear getting expelled. Or losing points for Hufflepuff. It had been an accident. She was only trying to help!

"Bats and cats!" Exclaimed Ivy. This morning was a disaster! Now if they found Aoide's essay it would be torn to pieces. It would all be Ivy's fault. She was only trying to help. She loved to help. But maybe she should just leave everyone alone. But she could not give up. She had to make it right. Ivy peeked out behind the armchair. Wand gripped in her white knuckles. Took a deep breath. Squeaked "FINITE INCANTATUM!" Dived back down. They needed help! "I am so sorry Aoide! I only wanted to summon it. I am going to be in soooo much trouble. What are we going to do?!"

Ivy took cover behind an embroidered armchair. She peeked out and hid again. The common room fire had blown out. There was a strong breeze churning about but there were no windows to allow one. A portrait was yelling. Someone's owl was hooting manically. Books and parchment from every corner had raised into the air. Along with two scarves. A pair of shoes. Someone's herbology project. And a box of Bertie Botts. Every loose item was now sucked into a magical tornado. It reached the ceiling. Tore across another rug.

"I did not mean to!" Wailed Ivy. Worried Zeta thought she was a bully. Sixth years had powers. They could report you. "I was trying to do the summoning charm on Aoide's homework." She scrunched up her messy bed hair in both hands. "It is due this morning!" It was not even her homework but somehow Ivy felt like it was. Her stomach was tying a knot. She dusted dust off Aoide's pyjamas. Too enthusiastically.

"Phew!" Said Ivy. She handed in that homework. "I saw Slytherin robes." Whispered Ivy. Glancing about. Her foe could be listening!

"I think I would prefer to see the Professor." Said Ivy louder. "At least I know exactly who he is." Well. She thought she did. Some of the older students had tried to convince them he was an escaped criminal. Another a vampire. Ivy's big sister had told her it was all made up. But she should totally fear him still. That had not helped Ivy's nerves!! "Are you going to write that down?" Asked Ivy. "What is he going to think if you write him down?"

Ivy was running late. She had spent ages choosing how to wrap Akira's present[1] In the end she had given up and asked Heather her big sister. Heather did it with a flick of her wand. Magic! Ivy could not wait to be that good. But this meant she was missing the quidditch fun. Quidditch was very important to Abbotts!

"Happy birthday Akira!!" Yelled Ivy. She looked right at home on the school broom. Holding the pink gift tight in her fingers. It kind of looked like she was going to throw it at the Ravenclaw!
 1. Ivy has made Akira a hair clip decorated with a tiny broomstick from real tiny twigs. It looks better than you might expect from a first year.

"Aoide!" Ivy rushed to help her friend up. "I am so so so sorry!" Her face was red. This was turning into a nightmare. She only wanted to help. Now Aoide would be angry with her. Ivy was not helping. She had hexed her best friend.

"Bats and rats!" Ivy cursed. "We could get my sister but she is not allowed in our common room. Or one of our prefects?"

"Bats!" Yelped Ivy. "Do not worry Aoide. It is not even breakfast time. We will find it. Or you can copy mine if we cannot." Ivy wanted to help her friend. Wanted to make her feel better quickly. The panic she had when Aoide had run out the dormitory had passed. But now she was sure Aoide had it loads more. So Ivy began to feel it too. "I know!" Ivy jumped. "I will get my wand."

She ran back to the dormitory. Her long blonde hair a messy cloak on her shoulders. She shoved her diary back in her bag. Fetched her wand instead. Raced back. "A-Accio essay!" Nothing. Ivy waved her wand. "Accio essay!!"

... "OH NO!"

"Vanished?" Ivy's frown disappeared. Surprised instead. "You know how to do that spell?" She had done her homework for Professor Storm. Yes. Definitely. She had ticked it off. It was in her bag. Packed last night. "I will help you find it." Ivy hurried. Checked the things on the table again. Put them together in a neat pile. "Are you sure you did not take it to the dormitory?"

Ivy jumped. Dropped her quill. "Aoide! What is it? What did you see?" Ivy was very concerned. "What homework?" Ivy asked that question frequently. But she had done it. Normally. Ivy quickly looked in. Wondering if she would see the same. Clouds. Lots of dark clouds. Then a flash of Slytherin robes. Ivy gasped. Quickly looked behind her. At all the slytherins. Suspicious. Worried. She bit the end of her thumb. This subject was an anxiety trip!

Ivy put her arm around her friend. Squeezed her.
"I hope we never go to war Aoide! My mum and dad said it was like the end of the world." Ivy's mum and dad had been on the good side. Of course! Hufflepuffs could never be evil. "They told me and Heather about it once. When Cassia was in bed. I think they only meant to tell Heather." Heather was Ivy's bigger sister. "She was writing about it for History homework. Mum used to fly people when they went into hiding. The Muggleborns." Ivy had been talking to other people. But tuned in now she could be helpful. "Did you parents help in the war Charlie?"
