8.50 am.
Quincy ran her fingers though her hair and pulled it up into a ponytail, securing it with an elasticated band. She looked at her reflection in the mirror and sighed. She had started wearing a top that was a size larger than what she normally wore. The bump was starting to be more visible. She hadn't told many people yet. Eddie knew. The kids didn't - perhaps today was the day to tell them. Yes. She would tell them tonight before she and Eddie went out.
Her eyes widened slightly. She and Eddie were going out. What on earth was she doing? This wasn't the way things were supposed to be - she had been on a date a mere week ago with Graham Bombay, kissed [and nearly slept with] Eddie's best friend Jason only days ago. And now she was going on a 'date' with her ex-husband, who was non-the-wiser to either. Her stomach lurched and she made a dash for the toilet cubicle in the locker room.
Thank Merlin nobody was in here - they would have questioned the reason why she was throwing her guts up at work, and that was a question she didn't feel quite ready to answer. After a couple of minutes hovering over the toilet bowl, and sure she wasn't going to bring anymore of her breakfast back up, she stood up and swayed a little on the spot. She'd stood up a little too quickly and the oxygen hadn't had enough time to reach her head.
Slowly she came out of the cubicle and headed for her locker, taking out a tube of toothpaste and a toothbrush. She cleaned her teeth twice, being very aware of the putrid taste in her mouth. By the time she had finished with her avid cleaning, it was time for her shift to start. She had spent the last three and a half weeks on the creature-induced injuries ward, and this was to be her last week on that ward before she was moved ona cycle to another ward. Why couldn't she have waited until she wouldn't have to see Jason at work again to try and seduce him?
She rolled her eyes at herself as she closed her locker and made her way out towards the staffroom to check the rota. There were a lot of staff in this ward, and normally she would have been disappointed to find that she wasn't working with Jason. He was Healer-in-charge of the ward, afterall, and was a very busy man. He couldn't be expected to look after a trainee. But today, she took solace in knowing that she wouldn't be working with him.
A couple of people had just been checking the rota when she went into the staffroom, but they moved aside and let her in to see. Her face went white.
Jason attending patient 24893 [chimaera attack], room 7. Quincy St.James to attend.
Of all the bloody days to be forced to spend hour after hour with Jason Marren, it had to be today! They hadn't seen each other since the very near hit the other night, and she wasn't entirely sure how to address the situation. All she knew was that this was not going to be a good day.
She had to drag her feet in the direction of room 7. She was pretty sure Jason wouldn't be there yet - she was always there before the healers were. Sure enough, in the room there was only the sound of faint breathing from the unconscious patient. Quincy sighed, closed the door behind her and moved her head from side to side, trying to ease the tension in her shoulders.
