Physical Description:
During his school years, Omari was always the tallest in his year. His dark skin and long black dreadlocks, along with his constant smile, always made him stick out in the Hufflepuff basement. His dark eyes always seemed to glisten when he was excited.
He is still tall (now reaching more than 6’3 feet off the ground), but the long dreadlocks are gone, replaced by closely cropped hair, and the constant smile has somewhat faltered. A silver hoop earring is dangling from his right ear and rings usually cover his fingers. He is body is made out of pure muscles and scars can be found on various places.
But the most prominent feature has to be his left leg - it is made out of goblin’s silver. It was during a trip to South Africa, with Lucas, that Omari was charged by an erumpent and had his leg blasted off. Lucas had to trade most of their galleons to persuade a group of goblins to help them. It is works more or less like a normal leg, but can jam if he forgets to use his ointment.
He has a tattoo over the ribs on his right side that reads “L.E.M. 1980 - 2004” in runes.
Personality Description:
Omari used to be the life of the party, always fun-loving and happy, socializing with everyone. He used to be the guy to go to for both comfort and encouragement. This is not always the case anymore. Though he often puts on a smile for the sake of it, Omari has seen the dark sides of war and magic, and it has shaped him. His skin has gotten tougher and it takes a bit more time for him to let someone close.
Some things that has not changed though are his fierce loyalty, his never-ending energy and his way to make people almost instantly like him. He is very protective of what he deems to be his (may it be friends, family or earthly possessions) and sometimes to the the point of obsessing. He would help anyone he loves in any way that he could if they asked for it.
He values justice more than mercy, which can sometimes make him seem ruthless, but to him that is the only way to go. It applies even to himself.
History:
Omari was brought up by his single mother Lawanda in the quiet town of Oban. He never met his father, but his mother often spoke fondly of the time when she met him in South Africa on a business trip. It wasn’t until she came back home to the UK that she found out she was expecting. Not having any means of getting in contact with him, Wanda decided to raise Omari herself. Omari had a good childhood - Lawanda worked at the Department of International Magical Cooperation, and the days he couldn’t stay with his aunt Imani, Omari often came with his mother to the Ministry.
At the age of eleven Omari got the acceptance letter from Hogwarts, and eagerly sat on the train on the first of September in 1988. He got sorted into Hufflepuff and quickly made friends with almost everyone in his year. He loved the years at Hogwarts, and tried out everything he could - tried out to play as a Beater for the House Quidditch team but didn’t really fit; joined the Gobstones club for a couple of weeks in his third year but found it boring. But it was in duelling that he showed exceptional potential and by his sixth year he was voted to become the Captain of the Hufflepuff Duelling Club.
After graduating, Omari decided to leave Britain and decided to travel and he jumped on the train leaving Platform 7 ˝. After a couple of months of travelling he came across a Duelling Championship in Zugdidi, and decided to compete. He won, and missing the glory-days of his school years, he decided to enter more. He quickly made a name of himself as a Duelling Champion in Europe.
During a competition in Ottawa, Omari lost against an American Duellist, and was badly hurt. That’s when he met Lucas Morneau, a muggle-born junior healer that helped him recover. Omari fell instantly in love, but it took some time before Lucas answered his feelings. It took even longer for Omari to convince Lucas to come with him on his travels. He finally decided to come, and the couple travelled all around the world for four years. It was during a trip to Northern Italy when disaster struck. A group of pureblood-radicalist cornered Lucas and killed him.
The loss was massive for Omari, and he went home to spend time with his mother. It took Lawanda three weeks to make him even leave the house, and it wasn’t until one day when Omari followed her mother to work and she introduced him to a friend of hers, an Auror, that Omari knew what he should do with life. He applied to Auror Training, completed his three years and joined the squad.
Describe your job duties and how you go about them:
Omari is an Auror. He might not be the best at keeping track off and handing in all the paperworks, or reading through the fine print in the case files, but he is one field Auror to be counted on. Excelling in Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts in school, and later his career as a Duelling Champion, has made him a force to be reckon with in tight spots. He is a ferocious dueller and great partner.
Elaborate on your expertise in your field:
Omari could thank Martin, his dorm-mate in Hufflepuff, for his N.E.W.T.s results. Not knowing what he wanted to do after school, Omari didn’t plan for his grades to make him acceptable as an Auror. But after the passing of Lucas, and the meeting with the colleague of his mother, he decided to make use of his past as a professional Dueller. He struggled with ‘Potions and antidotes’, but excelled in ‘Attacks and Counter-attacks’ and early made him a formidable part of the team.
Writing Sample:
The clouds that hung low over Ottowa had nothing to do with the chill that surrounded the graveyard. A group of people was standing by a freshly covered grave, each of them mourning in silence, while the priest talked. It was early September, but for everyone involved it felt more like the middle of the winter.
Omari was determined not to cry. Crying was a sign of weakness. Though that was all that he wanted to do. He wanted to scream, he wanted to run and he wanted to cry. The only thing that kept him from doing any of that was his mother Lawanda holding his hand. She was crying, but without sobbing and when he turned his eyes towards her, she gave him a sad smile. He lover his head and tried to swallow the lump in his throat.
“With that we bid you farewell, Lucas Elliot Morneau,” the priest finished. “Dust thou art, and unto dust thou shalt return.”
Omari saw how Lucas’ family was the first to rise - his mother Ellen, white as a ghost, clinging to his husband Mike’s arm; his sister Lana helping their grandmother walk to the grave. It was a scene he wished he had wished he would never have to endure. The family said its goodbyes, and as they were walking back to their seats, Mike gave Omari a small nod.
For a second he didn’t think he could walk. He was frozen in his seat. This was it - this was the final goodbye of his beloved Lucas. After this he would be gone, buried six feet under ground in a country far away from Omari’s own. It was a horrible thought, and for the first time in his life Omari was utterly afraid.
“Omari?”
His mother’s voice broke the spell, and he looked up to meet her warm eyes. She smiled her most encouraging smile.
“I’ll be with ye every step o’ the way”
Omari nodded, and stood up. They walked towards the grave together, their black funeral robes billowing after them; her mother short, but determined, Omari huge and broad shouldered, but with hesitant steps.
The grave looked so tiny when they arrived, carved out of brown marble and engraved with doves. It was beautiful and heart-breaking. His mother produced her wand, conjured a bouquet of roses and put them by the stone before turning around and caressing Omari’s cheek. As she took a step back, Omari kneeled down with a heavy sigh.
“I guess this is it.” His usual loud Scottish was broken and coarse.
He took out his aspen wand, and with a simple wave produced a single white rose. It had been Lucas’ favourite. As he lay the rose down on top of the stone he shed a single tear.
“I love ya, Lucas”
Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Omari Warrington is a hard-working Auror, who would do anything for his friends and family. Bad at the paperworks involved in his job, he is one fierce duellist and not one you would want as your enemy.
