No Charges for Greyfriar in War Wands Case

The Wizengamot have declined to hear charges against Knox Greyfriar in the case of the so-called war wands. Following news that he had returned to the authorities forty-one stolen wands, Greyfriar has faced accusations of conspiring with Death Eaters during the Second War.
The ruling was met with immediate backlash because it was arrived at in a rare closed moot. Journalists were not allowed in and records of the proceeding are sealed.
Justus Bleakhorne, a courts expert who has been closely analysing the case, tells the Daily Prophet: "It is no great surprise that none of the Death Eater stuff ended up sticking. Our society is overall very weary of that and despite the controversy, Greyfriar is a sympathetic character. But more than this, his story is plausible."
Greyfriar has in a single, terse statement made public last month said that he acted as a healer under deadly threat, that he was not a Death Eater. Bleakhorne tells us there is no indication there is evidence to controvert this story.
"The real surprise here is the Wizengamot abandoning the Possession of Stolen Wands charges. It's clear to anyone paying attention that if those charges had gone to trial, we'd see convictions. Our biggest clue to what transpired is that closed moot - something must have come to light that spelled something worse. But we'll never know," said Bleakhorne.
Following this news, Greyfriar formally resigned from the Wizengamot.
Mr. Greyfriar declined to be interviewed, probably for the first time ever.
Update: 25 May 2013
The Hogwarts Board of School Governors have accepted a resignation from Greyfriar. He will leave Hogwarts at the conclusion of this school year.
