Absit Omen Toolbar!

Hey guys! I made a nifty little toolbar for AO. I included what I think are the most important links, so it doesn’t have every official AO thread, but it has a lot of them (for a full list of official AO threads, check out the Directory of Useful Information).

So, if you download it, you’ll see a search box (where you can search in the site or in google), the AO twitter page, main links, news, character development, plot development, Hogwarts records, the chatboxes, and help. There’s also an optional e-mail notification button and facebook login.

Let me know if I’m missing any important links, and if it’s easy to use or not!

I’d also be happy to answer questions as best I can.

It's pretty nifty but I have one question: Are we positive this site doesn't allow for Malware and spyware through their toolbars? I usually don't download them because of that, and while i want to get it, Iw ould like to know for sure... :S

Good question. I did some searching around and it looks like most of the complaints about malware/spyware are because of specific toolbars that are downloaded... not a problem with the software itself.

It's being used at my university's library website (which is where I got the idea for AO), so I'd hope that it would be safe enough for us, but let me know if you guys notice anything strange pop up because of it.

I would assume that the university is very careful about it, so I take that as a good sign ^^ I will have to get firefox, but I will probably get it as well.

I'm glad you guys like it!

I made a few changes that should automatically update on its own (so you don't have to download it again).

I added an MLE (Magical Law Enforcement) tab, which includes Dawn's awesome Case Files and Auror Assignment board. I also added a little experiment we've been thinking about called the AO blog... more on that later!

I realize that not everyone will need or use some of these tabs, and that's ok! If there's anything you don't want cluttering up the toolbar, go to the Absit Omen icon on the far left hand side of the toolbar (the picture of the eye). Click the arrow and scroll down to "Toolbar Options". Then click on the "Predefined Components" tab. There, you can choose to uncheck any of the tabs and hide them from view .

Very awesome, my only question: can the color change? My Firefox background color makes it difficult to see the black, but my tabs above the AO Toolbar are in white.

Hmm, I don't see a way to customize that through the toolbar options, unfortunately .

Are there any toolbar options built in the firefox browser? I don't have Firefox otherwise I'd check.

Hmm - just an observation though I don't know if it helps ... I tried switching around the theme on my firefox and it looks like "Go" and "News" follow the theme specs.  They turn the same color/style as the others.  The other (blog through main links) are black.  is there something different about them?

Huh, that's interesting. On the site where I made the toolbar, I can manually set the text color of the tabs, and it looks like the default is black text. I just wish there was a way for each user to change the color so it fits with whatever browser theme they have.

I don't think there's anything different about 'go' and 'news'. I'll ask about this on their forums though, see if there's a solution.
