About Tagging
How to use tags
in the best way possible!
Absit Omen has a fantastical, magical tagging system! Each thread can have an assortment of tags to help us sort out different plots, specific dates and who's in them. This tool is extremely powerful and gives Absit Omen an edge when it comes to cohesiveness and organization. We encourage
all members to tag as often as possible!
The most useful method of using tags will be to
Keep It Simple & Consistent.
What to TagPlease strive to always tag ...
- Dates!
- Plotlines!
- Characters!
What you really shouldn't tag...
- Location
- Trivial plot bits like 'eating', 'craziness', 'kissing', etc
Tagging Idiosyncrisies1. Tags are case sensitive!
2. Tags 'see' spaces. So be careful not to add a space before or after a tag
DatesEach thread should contain
two date tags:
- January 1 2008 (This format identifies the specific day.)
- January 2008 (This tag identifies all threads in that month.
Please do not use abbreviations (
Jan1, Jan.1, 1.1.08 etc.) Please do not use a date without a year: (
January 1).
Remember! Tagging should not replace putting important information in the title and first post. Please continue to date your threads, title them with Open and add an M if there is mature content.
How to Tag1. When you create a topic, you add tags. Separate tags with commas. Example (remove the quotations):
November 1 2008,November 2008,Niobe Thursby,Dominik Wiedman
Do not use spaces between tags, just commas! Silly tagging!
2. Be sure to think
Simple & Consistent. You should try to use already
existing tags as often as humanly possible.
3. The tags will appear at the bottom of the thread. You can delete tags here, or add new ones here. If you add a new tag once the thread is posted, you can only add one tag at a time. (Silly tagging!)
4. At the top menu of the forum is a link to the tags page. You can see popular tags, or display all threads with a certain tag. (Like "Runespoor Smuggling"!)
5. When you tag, please do not include brackets, parentheses, or other extras around the tag. Just simple text will do! Also, short phrases (two or three words) should be just one tag. For example, make a tag titled 'Runespoor Smuggling', not two tags titled 'Runespoor' and 'Smuggling'.
6. You may tag your character name in your Network and Biography.
7. You can give plot development threads the same tag as you would the threads in that plot.
8. Otherwise, do not tag OOC threads, please.
9. It is
totally allowed and encouraged for members to tag others' threads! Go on a tagging spree!
Tag FormatsDates:- September 1 2008
- September 2008
Plotlines: (These are suggested formats. The key is to make sure all topics in a plot are tagged the same way. You can come up with your own tag for your own plotlines.)- Remembering Day Murders
- Runespoor Smuggling
- Akiva Katz Kidnapping
Characters: (Creating individual character tags is a great way to keep track of a character's threads. Be sure to include the full name of the character, not the first name or nickname. For pairings, you can stick to first names. Also, make character tags for personal threads, not huge group threads or class threads- five or less characters is fine, but over five should not be tagged with character names or pairings.)- Fauna Blake - (This is an individual character tag, with the full name)
- Devlin and Fauna - (A pairing tag)
Classes: (Use both of these tags. It is not necessary to make a tag for the year level.)- Class
- Subject...
- Ancient Runes
- Arithmancy
- Astronomy
- Care of Magical Creatures
- Defense
- Divination
- Flying
- Herbology
- History of Magic

Using Tags to the Max!Threads by Date (Here!)This calendar has been peppered with links to the tag list for each date! It's amazing! Easily see all threads that take place in a month or even a specific day!
Track your Character's Threads!Everytime you create or join a thread, add your character tag! Then click the tag to see a list of all your character's threads! This is much easier than looking through all your posts. Not only that, but you can take the link of that tag's page and add it to your Profile > Forum Profile > at the bottom, so that a link to your tagged threads will always appear beneath your avatar. So insanely useful!
Keeping Track of PlotlinesOnce it seems like two or three threads are becoming an on-going plot, have a quick chat with your fellow writers to decide on a tag for it. Big plots, or small two-person plots - it's all legal to create a plot tag. Just one or three words is best, with proper capitalization.
